US Presidents should indeed stay in DC most of the time and not make so many trips -- either within the US or outside -- as was the case for most of the US's history. FDR only made trips abroad for important war-time meetings with allies, for example. Especially in this day and age, with video, Presidents should just stay in the White House (or at Camp David, etc.) most of the time. Yeah, I know it's like a prison to them, but c'est la vie. It would cut down on protection costs, also, with many fewer trips. And any political trips (for themselves, to promote running again, or to promote other candidates) should be banned while they are President, because they are supposed to represent all of America once in the White House, not just their political party. This has gotten so wrong, and nobody seems to question the ethics of Presidents travelling within the US for political purposes only... It was even technically illegal for Trump to have campaign events at the White House, but nobody thinks he is subject to any legal or ethical standards. Sigh...
