Hi guys I’ll try and be respectful because I don’t condemn Mary for being friends with Alex. But to suggest Alex really believed Joe Ryan had molested his kids somehow condones tasering the man is cockeyed! Alex did his time but in reality this act demonstrated a recklessness and contempt that continued after being released. He might have been a good guy and fun to be around, but he was happy to be judge jury & executioner. Dangerous. The fact that he included this incident in his comedy routine proves he didn’t have any remorse. It should have been his friends and family that held him to task! Not laugh along with him. Joe was ultimately exonerated but Lori and Alex effectively ruined his life. They had a track record well before Charles was snared in the trap!

"Understanding" AND "taking responsibility " are key words for me with families who have eg two serial killers in one family. No blame - walking self back and see where you (anyone) could've intervened to a point of stopping the brutal outcome. My view is that rule 1 for all families is to protect the children. To ensure that our children grow, thrive and LIVE. It's a blot on the family when a child is murdered by someone close, another family member. In healing, the family, the grandparents especially need to take responsibility for their roles, passivity and focused more on their children than the well being of their grandchildren. It takes a village, the family being the closest members in this village

Of course everyone is entitled to their own feelings. I would think that the relatives of the deceased would not want to hear about how wonderful their killers used to be. I love this community, but just the speaking about this may be too soon. This is your channel and of course this should be about y'all. In my opinion, I just don't like hearing how funny Alex was. He was cruel and evil.

I don't agree that it's too soon. We are all bystanders. It's important to hear all perspectives. It's also important for the people that are grieving to be able to express themselves. I think Alex, Lori and Chad are monsters. But they were loved by people that knew them before the monster parts of them came out.

Just watched this Sunday morning. You have my deepest sympathies for you both and your families. Unless we walked in your shoes, it is all speculation and theories on how someone is supposed to feel or react. I feel very sorry for Alex. I think he was not quite right and Lori knew that. That’s the reason she and Chad chose him to do their nasty work. I think at the end the facade cracked and he began to see that he had been used by Chad and Lori and that he was going to be the fall guy. Perhaps he realized he hadn’t been killing zombies like some hero in the movies but real people whose biggest crime was being in Chad and Lori’s way. It doesn’t excuse what he did but it helps me to understand how the Alex that his family and friends knew and loved could be turned into a killer. But he truly believed he was killing zombies. He might be the only one who truly believed chads bogus religious revelation.

1:03:32 What I am thinking is maybe Alex only showed you the sides of him that were acceptable to you .. and Lori as well .. obviously Lori, that’s manipulation. Of course, I get that you have experienced Lori & Alex your whole life and know them differently than the public knows them .. I do not mean to diminish the reality of your historic experience with your family of origin. What I am saying is .. could you possibly have seen what you wanted to see and disregarded the the red flag behavior for decades BECAUSE she was family and family culture was to disregard/ignore it? So it became learned behavior. BTW - I absolutely have a mentally ill, delusional family member who I was concerned could act out violently. I called the police & I call the VA .. no help. Adam, it is very hard to grief Alex .. it’s so complex and so incredibly painful. To try to comprehend this would unravel so much .. putting up a barrier is a grand coping mechanism. I want you to know that you are OBVIOUSLY a very strong personality and you DID stand up to your family .. you can find a way to successfully grief the loss of the brother you loved.

Adam & Rex, I believe, are still angry, hurt and extremely sad about what Alex did. They are merely trying to put some sense to this tragedy, for their own survival. And whenever they rest from the anger, it’s for it to stop eating them inside. I cannot begin to imagine, how destructive what Alex did, is to them! They can cope which ever way works best for them, to get through…

I honestly think people took the strong reactions in the last podcast as negative. Agreed, most were not positive, however many of the comments conveyed disgust at Mary’s comment about the children gruesomely murdered by Alex being with him happy in heaven. I would be more concerned if people commented that they agreed with her. Like many comedians she has not much of a filter. I personally am not offended at the comments whereby people have expressed their honest reactions. Free speech. I didn’t observe any personal attacks on Mary, only distaste at her comments and similarly some people found it refreshing to hear of her positive experiences with Alex. I think I said I thought she was weird, but meant her delivery of her comments and some of her views were weird. She knew this herself and predicted correctly that there would be some backlash in the comments, which I thought odd. Why knowingly stir up stuff on such a delicate topic of murdered children. It doesn’t get any worse than that.

I understand that families of people that perpetuate crimes are not all good or bad and there are familial bonds that won’t end. I think perhaps in a few years this might have been received better. It is too fresh to have a neutral reaction. There has to be grace on both sides. You can still mourn someone that changed but you might not necessarily expect a majority to join in that.

If they "turned out to be a Lori" it would tear my heart out for the victims and their families. Nothing could get me to agree with their actions. I would feel repelled by their actions. It's a shame for the judgments and harsh comments you received. Diverse opinions and perspectives make the world a better place. I watched and was glad you had Alex's friend on. Your fond memories, and his prior lifetime, shouldn't be ignored by family members. While certainly more extreme, it can be loosely compared to divorce situations. Marriages end, even with children, but that end result certainly doesn't negate the union and prior love and fondness felt. What would happen then in life? Keep on broadcasting. You don't owe any excuses. Others can tune out on episodes if offended.

Now, my opinions might be unpopular and criticized and that’s okay, because I stand by them, 300%. On one hand, what Alex did was totally evil! Unacceptable, terrible, awful, pure evil! I sooo profoundly despise and condone what he did to these ever precious kids! And the thought of what he did, makes me sick!!! Now, that being said, I also think that Alex was brainwashed by Chad and Lori. Completely and utterly brainwashed! I think that, Chad especially, played with Alex’s profound “thirst of being seen” and mostly “recognized”. I think that Chad saw Alex’s hunger to feel that he had worth. I think that Lori and Chad gave Alex a “glorious (part of the brainwashing) mission”. Mission, that he grabbed unto (in his broken/confused mind), for dear life, as if holding unto, the eternal flame! This talks to me, about some purity of heart, inside Alex and it also tells me about his naivety in putting his total faith in his sister and her evil lover/husband. I think that Alex might of told himself, that if Lori followed Chad, it was probably for a good cause (in Alex’s mind, I would imagine)… …not only vicious people do the unthinkable…! That is my 2 cents and I stand by my thoughts. These thoughts by the way, come after I toss my strong emotions aside and use logic understanding and go, a long way above, that… …the only way to move away from the depth of the lowest abyss of all, is to look up and this is what I see through my mind’s eye (as would say Shakespeare), when I, look up!!! Adam and Gruncle Rex, my heart goes out to you, as it goes out to ALL those affected by this tragedy!!! May we all get the healing that will bring our hearts to “look up”…!

I'm sorry I'm a very logical person and maybe someone in this community won't be happy with my comments I believe that the facts showed us that Chad was the mastermind he was evil before and in my mind he was looking for a partner who wanted to share his BS and found Lori who was the perfect partner. Even though she suffers from a mental illness I believe she knew what she was doing and she thought they would be able to fool everyone. She belongs in prison. I'm sorry but I really believed that Alex believed Chad and Lori and bought their BS 100%!! According to the things I heard in the trial and the picture I got from Alex he was a blind follower. Even though Alex was the muscle I believe some other people were more evil than him. The Melanies and Zulema should be sent to prison for their participation in those crimes. They knew more and maybe had more participation in it. I'm a Christian and I believe only God knows what Alex was thinking and believing at the time he was committing those horrific crimes and I'm sure Alex will be judged accordingly.

As Christians we are called to love the unloveable. Love our enemies. A very tall task however my experience is that if you want this but don't know how, our savior Jesus will show you. It's easier to extend unconditional love and forgiveness to a family member who does the unforgiveable, although not easy, than to someone not related. Love wins, always. That's the lesson here. Choose love. Even if it's literally just a hair over the love/hate line. Even a hair on the love side is love and can grow. Always love.

I will admit, I don’t fully understand the internet culture. I could do an entire essay - but for this comment - Thank you Adam and Rex for sharing your thoughts and talking about your brother/nephew with one of his friends. For me - one thing I have really struggled with in this case - controversial or not - is I feel that Lori and Chad should have charges for Alex’s death as well. And if Alex were still here, I think he should have faced a jury and the death penalty. Both of these opinions and feelings can exist at the same time. I can completely understand how you can still love/miss/want to remember your family member even though he did something that was TERRIBLE. And I can see how this would be healing. For me, if I am not happy about a certain topic, I can always skip it. I do not understand why anyone would be rude, abusive, disrespectful to anyone within Silver Linings - merely based on who you are. I am not so naive to expect you both to just bash Alex all the time, that is not reality. Thank you for sharing. His loss, aside from his actions, is one that I truly have struggled with. I just feel terrible about how his part specifically transpired.

I feel, Lori and Alex, and Chad don't need to be talked anymore, been bearin a dead horse to death. Maybe time to talk about hope and peace, and suggestions for healing and moving forward. Offended might not be it, people are easy offended these days. Time to perhaps shift the focus. A Community surrounded around Lori, Alex and Chad, and the tragedy they caused don't need the attention, the victims, their joys, memories do.

I don’t think that most of the people here have a problem that either of you loved or even continue to love Alex and Lori. I think we all can wrap our heads around that you both have positive memories associated with both of them. It’s a complex situation with complicated emotions. I think Lori absolutely did a great job of making people believe that she was a good mother. I completely believe that everyone who says Lori was a good mother 💯 believed it. I think that both Alex and Charles believed that JR abused the children. But I do not believe that he SA’d either of them. To the contrary there is a large amount of documented evidence that shows that she was never a good mother. I found it so telling that there was no “best friend” of Lori’s to come forward and speak to who Lori was as a person. Sure, MG but they were not long term friends and probably never would have been friends otherwise. The friends from Hawaii to me were not true close friends, more surface level, situational friends. Most people have long term friends that they have been friends with forever and a day. I am 57 years old and I am still friends with my friends from high school. There’s been times when we were not as close,we don’t live close. But, I know that I could count on any of them. I have friends that live closer who I have been friends with over 20 years. Alex was chosen as “the hit man” for a reason. He was easily manipulated, especially by his sister. There’s many accounts of Alex having sex addiction symptoms. It’s my opinion Alex being an addict played a role in his participation in this cult and ultimately the crime. I think he felt the same way many addicts feel; self loathing. Deep shame for lacking the ability to control their addiction. Combine the sex addiction issues with the fact that he was raised in a high demand religion that frowned upon sex outside of marriage to the degree of the offense being second only to murder. So, due to his own personal issues, the “blessings” that CD gave AC translated to feelings of exoneration and forgiveness making him feel better about himself, forgiven for his sins. This was powerful for Alex. Powerful enough to control him to the point that he did heinous things he did. But, he showed violent tendencies before he did the crime for Lori and Chad. I don’t have a problem with Mary or anyone else having fond or happy memories of Alex. It was placing him in Heaven with JJ and Tylee that outraged me and I think most people. Many of us were especially triggered by what Mary said because it really did sound a lot like what Lori said at the end of her trial. I believe Mary absolutely has her right to freedom of speech but it was in poor judgment to say the part about them being in heaven together on a public platform. I feel like poor Tylee has had a little bit of a lack of representation in this situation during this whole situation and I feel like we got to see a little bit more of her during this trial. We also learned her death was even more egregious than we thought. It was especially heinous, and Chad Daybell, Lori Vallow and Alex Cox did that. I don’t hold the 2 of you responsible for Mary’s thoughts and I don’t think Mary is a bad person, but I do think voicing that specific thought on a podcast was a good thing to do. I am glad you addressed it today.

As a professional in the disability field i strongly believe that Alex suffered a brain injury in the car accident he was in when he was younger. I'm not saying his actions aren't reprehensible, I'm saying his brain injury explains a lot of his behaviors.

Rex and Adam, I liked Mary’s podcast with you both. made me realize that Alex and Lori were not always evil. Not to mention, Alex was lead into this nightmare and believed them. Second, if you have not watched Nate Eatons, interviews with Rob Wood, Lindsey Blake and Hermiceo what they had to say was fascinating.

@@laurenmay2098 Well stated...besides his own Father has mental issues & Charles bought Janice a car , paid for their cells the whole bunch of them...now they want to glaze over & denial denial denial! Joe was murdered then Charlie's come in folks she was acting cray cray way back then. Adam seems like you have your head in the ⌛ sand. Sir you do need professional help. Again the s a Mormon thing I agree. Jason Mow, Summer, Melanie Gibb all here with us in Mesa & Gilbert AZ. Remember Jason was Bishop that loved Lori ...she was his best Temple gal in Gilbert. People are not over this grief is too deep Alex chopped up & burned his own niece ...no that's not Chad's fault. Then suffocated his nephew JJ....do believe he helped Chad strangle poor Tammy So no that Mary needs to seek help ...she was lied to, tricked by evil Alex. He just didn't get up one day and kill. Look at what he did to Joe & served jail time. Horrible horrible people. Quit being in denial Adam. No not NES judging you. Uncle is getting help. Grief comes in all packages....Janice & Summer are hiding things both need to just stay out of limelight. We out here feel for all families that lost beautiful people & 2 innocent children. Alex was a snake 🐍 he probably did take a cyanide pill or another one he's a coward. He's in hell now ...good place for him. Peace to all

Who gets to say where the line is for anyone to cross with words? Actions, yes, but words? I don't get it. Mary has to survive this. Mary has to live every day knowing that someone she loved killed people for nonsense. Rationalization and excusing of behaviors is how people get through. Humans forget what it is like to be human and we hold one another to much higher standards than to which we hold ourselves. We have all given grace and false idealization to loved ones who have caused harm to us or others. When Mary said that they were all in heaven and forgiveness and understanding abound, I shook my head, but I am a vengeful person so I would never extend forgiveness. I have watched victim impact statements (not from this case) where forgiveness was given so if it can happen here on earth who is to say that it cannot happen in the after life? Don't we want there to be forgiveness on every plane? Mary, I am sure you are not reading this but on the off chance that this gets to you, "Hold on to love. The world and life try to steal love from us every minute. Hold on to love. It is better than anything else." Holding on to love for Alex/ Lori/ other monsters does not erase, negate, or diminish the evil that they do. It just makes sure that evil doesn't win.

Yessss I HAVE TO dissociate a lot of the time from the pain of my first borns suicide I couldn't possibly feel that pain remorse anger guilt sorrow etc and function WHATSOEVER enough to raise my remaining 3 younger sons all under 6 and be a wife to my husband. I MUST compartmentalize. I have started EMDR therapy and it helps very much and I do unpack the dark once a week with my therapist during those sessions. I also cry a few times a day over the silliest things I have no control over.. I cried yesterday that my son only got to use the electric toothbrush he wanted so bad for only a couple weeks before he died. Judging anyone's grief or processing is horribly narcissistic. Some Christians would say my sweet 14 yr old is damned to hell for taking his own life. I think that's completely evil. Don't use a soap box or other people's REAL CLOSE RELATIONAL TRAUMAS to express your own darkness. It says so much more about you than the people you're judging..

I know you guys hate what he did but you don’t stop loving your family and all the many amazing years you had. It’s just sad he was so horribly brainwashed and wasn’t strong enough to step away from all of it and the darkness that was around him. It was just tragic all around. But I’m sure you miss Alex, the Alex you knew. That’s ok and it should be ok for you to discuss. Just like I’m sure you miss the kids terribly. Keep doing your thing guys! We love ya!

I think before Alex became a bad personn it was probably different .and in some religion you forgive a murderer why , is not for him is for the personn that is victim to not continuously live with hate and anger that will ruin his life and then the murderer will carry o killing the victim because stress can kill people . Your familly is so strong .and your understood that helping others can help yourself. 😊😊

I love hearing good stories about Alex. I think all of these family members love each other. I believe Alex loved Lori and that is why he sadly fell for the delusions of Lori. Alex went down a really bad rabbit hole and his love for Lori made it easy. I believe Alex truly believed the delusional things he was being told and he did horrible things in that belief. I don't condone what Alex did at all, but I get what happened to him. I believe none of Alex's family will stop loving him, and they shouldn't. What happened is horribly sad, but it happened. You can't turn back time and you can't stop loving.
