Ind we’re abs superb in the group stage… no doubt… but did the easy wins on “doctored pitches” esp v SENA countries give them a false sense of security and superiority?🤔🤔playing SENA in the group stage on more “natural pitches”might have meant a loss or 2 but they would have had a much more accurate understanding of exactly how good they were playing going into the ko’s imo

I think india saw the match between south africa and australia . in that match aus struggled against shamsi and maharaj. Seeing that , ind thought of creating a pitch which would trouble the australian players.but it backfired on them

Hey Guys, an Aussie here, loved your discussion on the game. I cannot speak about the Indian philosophy on playing cricket or indeed any sport but the analysis about how Aussies think about playing the game is spot on. The current trend is moving further towards having fun and encouraging to play to your strengths and not be afraid to make a mistake. If you do make a mistake the team will have your back and encourage you to go again. The fear of making a mistake can be crippling and does not bring out the best in anyone.

In 1996 Australia lost the world cup to Sri lanka, this loss changed the way Australia played the game. If India can do the same there's nothing stopping them from having an era at the top of world cricket like Australia had after 1996. India has the players, now they need the steely resolve to never loose that Australia has.

Right about the pitch. Even Wasim Akram mentioned it too in his analysis. The pitch shouldn't make such a big influence. Remember the same team scored 400 in the semi finals. The pitch was too dry and too slow. Not good for spinners not pacers. And it got better under lights which helped Australia.

pitch was very poor, nthng in 2nd inning. only regret is that rohit played an unnecessary shot in the over with 10runs already off it. in a pitch like that u need experience n set batsmen to play long. it was very well poised for a rohit kohli partnership. I couldn't believe atleast in final he didn't change his strategy 😑😑 thats when u ensure a bit of caution. 2nd inning after 10 overs, there was nthng for bowlers. if score would hve been near 270 atleast then slower balls would've come into play. there was turn n reverse in first.

Guy in grey jacket is saying India are like an Orchid. Can only flourish under perfect conditions. Both teams play on the same pitch...and those pitches are totally different everywhere you go in the world. If you must have a certain type of pitch prepared for a certain style of game then you cannot ever become a great team. I remember a couple years ago the Brisbane Gabba suffered weeks of monsoon flooding and entire ground under water until a few days before a test with Sth Africa. The two teams simply agreed not to headhunt and play the game. It wasnt as "safe" as it should be but a proper test match was played.

Australia had 45 balls left even at a run a ball India needed 285. If Maxwell got going they may have needed 300 plus. In a close game you can blame the pitch but this game was no where near close. A pitch does not change an easy win to a loss.

One thing you guys did not comment on the Australians rotated their bowlers in one over spells where the batters play a ball of two before attacking. All bowlers bowled at middle and leg with five to six fielders on leg side blocking the singles and twos. Cummins out thought India.

i went t a test match in sydney , not sure what year maybe 2004 . i sat midway up the sheridan stand . directly below me was a large group of indian supporters.maybe 15 of them they had brought each a plate of indian food that they had earlier prepared. during the game they passed plates back and forth ,having a wonderful time. mid afternoon one fellow leaned back and handed me a plate ,so my wife and daughter as well as myself had a sample of their food. This was just the start , others started handing me a plate , so the food plates were going along the line with a minor diversion to our seats . what a wonderful experience. i cant remember who won. it dosnt matter. cricket is great in the way it brings cultures togerther. the loss of the world cup is not a disaster, its a learning curve. good on you indians and well done.

Agreed about the T20 "World Cup" should not be called a world cup. It is just another tournament and it is played far too often. Australia won it less than 2 years ago and yet it hardly made the news in that country. It is not important to many nations. The "Cricekt World Cup" is a 50 over game every 4 years. There could be an argument made to reduce to 40 overs a side but no need to do that either. World Cups are precious becoz of traditions and prestige. AUS used India’s template against them. They knew Virat and Kl are the consolidators so they spread the field according to their strength and protected the boundaries knowing fully well that it would reverse after 30 overs. Kl and Virat’s intention was to take the game deep and here lies in the problem where they failed take into account the reverse swing. One of them should have taken initiative and hence they were 40 runs short

Congratulation on Australia winning. Right from the beginning of the tournament I always felt the three Aussie fast bowlers were far better than rest of the teams. India were 100 runs short on that pitch. Loosing the toss, batting first and none of the batsmen scoring big and poor batting performance from 4 of the 6 batsmen was the real reason for the defeat. There was nothing the Indian bowlers could do with such a low score of 240. With that score they would have lost to England, South Africa, Newzealand, Pakistan and Srilanka. The competitive score on that pitch was above 340. Millions of Indians got disappointed. The promising aspect is with so much talent emerging through IPL, India will always be one of top 3 performing nations for the rest of the future.

After every WC loss there vll b after effects in the team selection but after this WC I don't knw what vll b the change bcoz everyone in OUR team played superbly...it's just that v need learn to b ruthless in the difficult nd final matches....v need to develop that in our players... rest v played superbly in WC... v vll miss this combination in future 😔😔😔

Truly silly some of the whinging about the pitch being completely different between two innings. That is bizarre. Conditions can change slightly but nobody suddenly flicked a switch and created a minefield in one innings and road in the next. They simply bowled better on it, then batted better. The defeat had NOTHING to do with the pitch ! If the pitch was that bad Rohit Sharma wouldn't have scored so many boundaries before FOOLISHLY throwing his wicket away and letting ?Australia get on top by exposing the less experienced p!Ayers like Iyer and Kumar Yadav . If Rohit Sharma had batted responsibly and just looked to Rotate the strike instead of going for another 6,when he had already taken 10 runs off Maxwell's bowling , India would have remained in a strong position at the time. After losing the toss, & were compelled to bat first, only way out of this match was to try end this match before last minute of the twilight. Make it a T20 kind of match, make 240/50 within 30 overs & utilise the slowing pitch conditions for next 30 overs to take Aus all out. When you focus on extraneous things, this is the outcome. Pitch, dew, weather, rain etc:- In my opinion indian team shouldn't worry about such things. Nikil Naaz I agree with you fully. Asa viewer from South Africa I was very disappointed by a Final became a non-even because of the state of the pitch. Further, the final was played on a Sunday, why was the match played as a day matgh which would have made a mequal contest. I suggest you guys read the comment by Ricky Ponting and analysis of the final done on CAUGHT BEHIND with Rashid Latiff and Team.. They gave a great perspective. Let me add that I am an 80 year old andf I have plated cricket for 20 years to the point o Proviicial Level. albeit in a racial set up.

Pitch doctoring was our downfall. Moreover, when we had them on the mat at 47/3, why did we not attack by getting in a slip. Many half chances went in the slips. Also, if Virat and Subhman were not caught napping, with the first boundary from Head, between them- would have been a different game

Reason for India Loss 1. Gill and Rohit threw away their wickets, like t20, when there was so many overs left. In ODI you need to bat long to score big hundreds, just 20 - 30 is not enough. 2. No attacking field placements or strategy, they were giving 5 - 6 runs in singles and twos when spinner were bowling, when asking rate was 4. They needed to bring fielders to stop singles so they play big risky shots. You can't defend 4 runs / over, it is just clueless strategy by captain / management. 3. If Siraj is not bowling with new ball, then should have played Ashwin. Else should have stuck to same Siraj with new ball, and Shami 1st change. 4. Why make dry spin pitch? Then toss becomes a factor. India should have made a good batting pitch, like semifinal vs NZ. Most frustrating thing is the cricketers and support staff who are paid crores, cannot think of these basic strategies, and keep repeating the same mistakes again and again!

all this talk about the pitch is because india tried to be clever with the wickets and people do not want to admit. let the pitches alone. just pick new decent batting strips for these occasions and let the best team win. india were handicapped by their own groundsmen. why pick used wickets and then mess them up further. its ridiculous

May be the likes of Kapil ,Ravi Shastri, Yuvraraj hardly come by. But the likes of Tilak Varma,W sunder should be given chances to groom,eventually become very valuable. Problem is, they are not tried out enough.They should be given more chances regardless of their mediocre performances in the beginning. Lefties are more valuable for team balance.

The pitch decision is pretty interesting. I actually agree that the pitch was shit and Australia benefited from it. However, it was shit by design. India chose to make it like that. And there's no way there'd be any discussion about it had India won. But at the end of the day, it was a terrible wicket. Let's just hope that moving forward the BCCI doesn't decide to intervene in these things and decides to just make the best wicket for a game of cricket and let the best team win. This really should be a lesson for them.

I was abused and trolled by toxic VK fans whenever I was critical of his performance in previous world cups, the same has repeated again, his stature as King Kohli is not justified by the way he played in the finals, the same mentality cost us the T20 World Cup last time. We have the same batting line up failing again and again still we insist on Kohli at 3. Why not be brave like Australians and send Surya opening in the finals let Kohli and Rohit bat at No.4 and No.5. It’s stupidity when you slip on the same banana peel twice.

Surya very worst giving chance to bowlers and he taking single, 4. Already We are playing with 5 bowlers only in that siraj regularly bowl with newball,if you are following process then why you are not following that.siraj comes after jeddu and kuldeep 17over. Even in Sharjah they did not care about visiting teams and alcohol. It is simply part of being a host. Marsh is not disrespecting anything. It is just a trophy to them...yes they want to win them, but it isnt something precious that cannot be touched or shared amongst themselves. That is what trophies are meant to be for. If it was the original Ashes urn they might pass it around and kiss it. Why are you so precious ? In many sports they drink champagne from their cup to celebrate.
