This client commission was made from a walnut tree that was infested with bugs and donated. In the close ups you can see some of the bug holes all throughout the wood. I filled the major cracks and voids with epoxy mixed with real brass powder. The finish is Osmo Wood protector then 3 coats of equal parts mineral spirits, satin poly and boiled linseed oil. Enjoy!

How would the linseed oil get absorbed into the wood after that first coat of the poly mix? Linseed oil needs to go into the wood not sit on top. So I’m always curious when people say they use a blend like this and do more than one coat. Thanks!

@@SamWanamaker1That first coat of Wood Protector is really thin, like water thin. Then in the subsequent coats, they are also thinned by the mineral spirits which helps the oil “get past” the poly. If you wait too long between coats, you will have to do a light sanding.

Looking closely I wish all of the small pits were filled, but that fact doesn’t change the fact it’s beautiful and I love the look of the legs. Joined probably perfectly and the brass epoxy is very nice. I thought it would be 💩, but it looks like veins of gold.

thanks you! I wasn't sure about the epoxy and brass myself, but I do like the contrast. Thank you for watching!

How you prevent this table from wrapping?
@vanvleetwoodworking
@vanvleetwoodworking Месяц назад
Several way; first by making sure the wood is dry, somewhere around 12% or less moister. Next, I mill it little by little over the course of 3 days. This makes sure all the stress and movement should be out of the wood. Last, the metal leg mount will help keep it flat.
