I think it's a story that seemed darker before because it's a story about loss of innocence and we were all still youthful and bright-eyed at the time we originally watched it.

Looking forward to the Daughters of the Dust review. Made the new decennial Sight And Sound Top 100 films of all time poll (which would be a good podcast topic).

I loved that "Who Dat" song... I started listening to it again because my baby cousin makes that "Ay ya ya" sound 😁 I made it his anthem.

I wish there was a spiritual sequel in the form a novel explaining more about the events & a aftermath of the family. Daughters of the Dust had the same thing.

I'm so mad I missed this live. It was Super Bowl weekend and so much was going on. Eve's Bayou is one of my faves. Queens Debbi Morgan, Lynn Whitfield, and the late, great Queen of all Queens Diahann Carroll in one film was heaven. I want to see more Black films like this.

Ok, so it wasn't just me--- I came to the comments to see if anyone else thought they were going crazy, because I just watched this movie and they only uncle around is the one married to the psychic aunt & he dies at the beginning... So when you guys said it was the uncle who broke the glass, and also were saying the uncle had the 3rd perspective but we couldn't hear/know it because the uncle couldn't speak/tell, I was like "ok everything else they said lines up to that I saw, and same actors, so it's not like "the happening" where I watched a legit different movie w/the same name and the review was completely different.. wth are they talking about w/this uncle??" I'll have to check out the other version!

Fun fact you know the director is the girl from the five heartbeats who was planted in the audience by bird and the midnight falcons to boo the Heartbeats and when Eddie dropped down to sing to her she flooded her basement and melted like butter in his arms🤣 who knew she would make such a phenomenal film

I liked this film quite a lot, and voted for it! my only slight issue with it is aesthetic; Nick said it could be more "edgy" and I agree, it definitely looks and feels like a 90's movie; I feel similarly about Hellraiser, which has too many cheesy 80s trappings for me to enjoy (unlike this, which I still watch and appreciate) what I like a LOT about Eve's Bayou is that it has a small-scope, small-cast, family drama-type story, the kind that might be used for a socially-conscious "elevated horror" story now, in an era where so many BIG action-leaning epics were being made; I really appreciate that thinking about it, I wonder if it's due for a (decent) remake in today's climate; Jordan Peele?

I personally don't want this movie touched unless it would be like Nick mentioned... Maybe telling the story from the POV of Roz, Mozelle or possibly even the Uncle Toney. This was such a good film I don't know what a direct remake could really improve upon.

I think they chose diahann because her Eurocentric features and her previous roles are fitting for her being an ambiguous, black, creole. I think cicely is too dark for that. Her character Dominique Devereaux from Dynasty was a biracial creole person. Her role in the movie was probably a homage/contrast to that role.
