"Russian Lullaby" was, no doubt, the HIGHEST moment of the live! EVERYBODY was on fire, mainly Kyle. I don't use any drugs, but I was SO HIGH with this version of "Russian Lullaby"!
Joe Segal (and I) were great Barry Harris fans, and on Barry's frequent visits, Joe and Barry talked, only half in jest, about doing a "Barry Harris Plays Harry Barris" set. There are so many great things about Emmet's stream, not the least of which is letting us who never get to NY to hear what's going on, and to do so in such a first class way. And also to introduce us to so many fine players who don't make it to the hinterlands where many of us live. This is a great service to the jazz community, both musicians and listeners. It has introduced me to more than a dozen players I'll look for on tour! And the considerable space given to artists to allow us to get to know them. I've known of Mary Stallings for many years, drove four hours and paid big bucks for first chance to hear her live at SFJazz, and only heard 4-5 tunes. Here, a 90 minute set, with great sound and video from a front row seat with a great trio! I'm also blown away by the serious chops and sensitivities that Emmet and the band exhibit in so many widely varied parts of the jazz tradition. I don't do social media, found the streams on youtube, and this is not the first night Emmet has played him some mean stride! And there's this set right here. This is a lovely band. Thanks for all the great Fats, one of my favorite players and composers for 60 years. Do I hear some Pee Wee in Evan, or were they just both listening to the same cats?
fantastic! Though Kellso and Christopher are two of my all-time favourites I only heard them together after hours at the Ear Inn (unforgettable). So this is the most welcome session, thank you so much! Evan Christopher is a unique 'Creole' voice on the clarinet today and John Eric Kellso is the 'traditional' trumpet that disavows all stereotypes. So imaginative, original...beautiful!
Thank-you again. These sessions are an inspiration to me as our jazz trio has been fortunate to play every Friday and Saturday nights for the past year and a half indoors and out, here in Ontario Canada. Peace and love to Emmet Cohen and the beauty all y'all create!
It’s the Chicago Stinger by Hirschman Mutes (the blue plunger is also by Hirschman Mutes). It’s a 3D printed mute that has three vibrating kazoo membranes at the end. Crazy sound. Kellso kills it.
@@J-Land Sure seems like 3D printed mutes popped up out of nowhere during the pandemic. I've bought five 3D printed mutes in the last year and they're all very cool and sound great.
@@JonErikKellso yeah it really is like playing through a distortion pedal. But you don't have to worry about feedback issues stressing out the sound person - ha!
