Last performance of 2023! The GRAND FINALE!
The fabulous Doug Stewart, flutist, and I had the joy of playing once again for the residents of Cedarbrook of Rochester for their holiday party.
Doug and I had instant camaraderie since 2016 at an ensemble rehearsal. I started my warm-up with Handel's "Concerto in B-flat" and Doug started echoing the melody BY EAR across the room. 😅😅 I stopped, startled, and he gave me the world's cheekiest grin.
Every time we make music, there is a meeting of minds and musical intent that needs no words to execute. Doug's vibrant array of tones, textures, and exceptional improvisatory skills on flute are a perfect compliment to the shimmering, warm tones of the harp. (Oh, did I mention that he was improvising a flute part off my solo harp sheet music? For ALL of this?)
This was truly the perfect capstone to the year. We both loved the energy and magic of engaging with our audience, and we played our HEARTS out and danced in our seats -- joy without reservation. 😊🌟💖 🎄
As I remarked to Doug as we sang showtunes on our carpooled ride home: "It's truly a gift to be able to be this close to the beating heart of the purpose of music."
