I saw the sonata in person yesterday and it's a gorgeous car. I really liked the way the white color contrast with the gloss black and the interior is very nice. I've end up buying a 2020 stinger GT limited, just because of the front wheel drive of the sonata and the K5.
I Love and Hate the Sonata. Lol. In white and red in Limited & NLine trim it looks absolutely beautiful to me... but other than that I don't like it when I see it. 🤷🏾♂️ lol... And The K5 just has an awesome profile/ silhouette.
Thanks for great review of both cars Peter! I never thought I would these two sister cars in one video, also in the same room! I hope you get more freedom someday to test drive it in your reviews like the launch control.
i’m trying to trade in my 2019 camry V6 for one of these. i like the interior of the sonata more. but i like the exterior of the K5 more. the lack of a digital gauge cluster in the K5 is a very huge dealbreaker for me. hopefully kia rectifies that for 2022
Bravo! Happened to come across this video while shopping for my next vehicle. While the Canada and US spec versions of these cars are a little different in options, I appreciate the methodical approach to your videos. If I lived in your PMA then I would definitely buy from you!
kia k5 ftw here :) between kia and hyundai related models and trims (before redesign periods too), it is still majority kia for me but so far there's only 1 hyundai i would pick over kia and i believe peter will be doing a vid between those 2 very soon hopefully :D
Yeah, I've been looking forward to comparing these two for a while. The seats in the Hyundai really stand out to me with the adjustable side bolsters. But the Kia has a windshield that never needs scraping and ventilated front seats. Lots to like about both vehicles.
Cars are extremely similar. Same cars with different badges and tweaks. Seems like a collaborative effort to keep costs down or profit margins higher on both. I think the K5 might have the edge with the looks, but I much prefer the interior in the sonata.
@@sandlmv8301 I think I'm with you on that. I like the looks of the K5, the seats of the Sonata, and yes, a lot of the rest is similar. These are probably two of the most similar vehicles between the two makes. Every other vehicle seems to package their trims quite a bit differently.
I just bought a 2022 with 20k on it two days ago and I'm absolutely in love. I can't believe they make a car with all these features, styling and power for this price. The transmission is amazing and they have it set perfectly. Idk what else to say. It's perfect. I got silver, and I usually don't even like silver, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Looks like luxury and sport combined. Funny people say the Sonata is bigger, meanwhile the kia is actually longer. So no, it's not sleeker
Yeah, I don't think anyone will regret either of these vehicles! You choose your favourite, and you'll just have a blast every time you press the start button.
@@ajfagan6627 it's a great car it drives nicely for being a sports family car especially since its fwd. I like it alot and I would recommend buying the n line . I'm thinking of giving it up for the 2022 n line because of the new speedometer digital system that's looks better and the mode controller switch is gonna be closer to the driver button's which is way easy to use imo
First off, love the videos. You do a great job and very informative. Wondering if you know why you guys get heated rear seats and we can't in the states? Thank you again for your videos.
Like the Kia K5 GT cuz it still has a shifter but it's missing a lot of other features and it only seems to come in that gray interior and I kind of like having my camel interior but I'm not willing to go to a 1.6 l turbo
Do you think the all wheel drive in the k5 should be in the sonata? Also do you think both the N Line and the GT 2.5 engines should have all wheel drive
I don't like to play the "what they should have done" game only because there are people who are much smarter than I am, that make those decisions, and they weigh variables that I often don't have to consider. Having said that, yes, I think at least the K5 GT should have come with AWD. I understand that puts it close to the Stinger, but we don't have a 4 cylinder Stinger in Canada, so I feel like that could have set it apart. None of the Hyundai Sonata line is AWD, so I understand why their N-Line isn't as well.
LOL. Walked into my local Hyundai dealership last week and said I wanted to buy a 2022 black Sonata N-Line. After checking the computer they informed me that there were only 4 N-Lines in all of Ontario for sell and none of them were black. I said, order one from the factory. They said any orders now would be for a 2023 and it would not show up until sometime in 2023. Their showroom was empty and only a few 2022 Hyundai's on the lot. I don't know how you guys are going to stay in business.
Similar issues here in Australia, huge wait times on new car orders. One by product of this is that second hand vehicles are sometimes worth their new price or close to it depending on make and mileage.
I actually like the Exterior and interior more on the Hyundai. Jmo. I like the curves in the middle of the N line at the doors. And it looks wide and low because of the styling. I own a 2022.
The side profile of the Sonata looks sleek and sporty I hate the back end of that car I wish it looked a bit more sophisticated instead of spacie and futuristic
I would much rather that suede and leather mix for the seats, and if anything that is a little bit more luxurious, because suede is something that you would usually find in really high end sport and luxury cars
Will the 2022 Hyundai sonata get the de-icer feature like the K5 and will they put the charging area where the k5 has its charger. These two features and location stands out between the two cars
There have been a lot of complaints about the Sonata and Sonata N having excessive wind noise entering the cabin at speeds over 50 mph and getting even worse at over 60 and 70 mph. Have there been similar complaints about the Kia K5GT?
I haven't had that issue at all with my Sonata. I have heard people saying the Kia k5 GT line, not GT, has wind issues though. Idk if that means the GT does. I guess so?
What is really ticking me off is NOT telling us that the seat upholstery is SYNTHETIC LEATHER in the Kia. I don’t know if it fake suede in the Sonata! I do know the Kia is fake.
Thank you kind sir. Your video really helped me chose Kia over Hyundai. Kia will be slightly more real world expensive but layout and options better. So Kia is now my choice.
Because mechanically these cars are identical. The GT-Line is a lower spec car, but also adds AWD. These cars are significantly more powerful than the K5 GT-Line.
The problem with the K5 wireless charger location is having your USB cable plugged in to run Android Auto or Apple Carplay. With the N Line, I can plug in the USB and lay the phone on the charger.
So I've had a confirmation from Kia Canada, saying that the K5 WILL receive wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay in a future software update. I haven't heard the same thing from Hyundai, but that would solve the issue in the K5.
Hey, love your videos. Been really helpful. Can you please suggest between getting a Kia K5 GT line AWD or Sportage 2023? They’re not really the same cars but I am torn b/w them. Also my other comparison is Hyundai Tuscon 2022 vs Kia K5 2022. I am a new driver. Which one would you prefer?
When is that update on wireless CarPlay on the 10.25” screen expected? And will that be a worldwide update or just CA? I’m in the US and was eyeing a GT but no wireless CarPlay on a top-trim, especially when they have wireless charging, makes zero sense.
I haven't taken either of them to the track, but on the street, they are certainly VERY similar. I haven't driven them back to back at high speed, but it would surprise me if one had any advantage over the other. Both hold on to the road very well in corners, both transition well from side to side. I can't see how one would be "better" than the other except in peoples opinion of which one they like better.
@@BrantfordKia that sucks!!!!, but it raises the question why?. The sister brand Hyundai offers it with the Sonata and Kia offers it on the K5 in South Korea, Europe and also Canada, why not the U.S?
@@yordan826 Kia Canada and Kia Motors America each made decisions about how to equip their cars for their own unique markets. Maybe it's pricepoint? Maybe it's a number of other factors. I'm not sure.
I'm not sure. We film in Canada. In general, the executives in the U.S. have to equip the car for the entire country, and much of the country won't see a benefit to those features.
You forgot to mention theres a phone holder in between the two cup holders. So it has a wireless charger and a more convienent spot for your phone then behind you but thats just my opinion. I own a n line so im biased. Lol. How do i retract the panoramic sunroof all the way can only get it to half retract, is this a limitation on the north american models? Thanks and great review!!
We're actually part of a dealer group. So this RU-vid channel is now helping our dealer group instead of just one dealer. Also, I personally like both brands of vehicles quite a lot, so I think it will help us create more high-level content.
At this point, the 8 inch screen does, and the 10.25 inch screens do not. I'm trying to follow up with both Kia and Hyundai to see if a future software update will enable it on these cars, and I can't get any confirmation yet. If you buy the 10.25 inch screen, you need to be prepared to never have Wireless Apple CarPlay or Wireless Android Auto, but I'm still holding out hope that a future software update will enable the feature.
0 so deeply disappointed in Hyundai for going to the rotating shifter more upset because they went to a 1.6 l turbo and The limited I was going to buy the limited this year to replace my 2015 but once I saw they put a 1.6 l turbo in it I had to say no and the end line is nice but it doesn't have the features that my 2015 sonata limited head no rear heated seats no heated steering wheel no shades in the backseat to protect your child from sunburn. It's funny Genesis took the 2015 sonata widened it and made it a little longer and called it the g80
I love the hyundai n line, what is the button in the right side of the steering wheel besides the lane keep assist? The little car with white lines below?
That indicates that the vehicle has SMART cruise control, or Adaptive Cruise control. It allows you to set how close or how far away you would like to follow the vehicle in front. It makes much more sense when you drive it.
I love my 2015 Hyundai sonata limited and I can't replace it with a new one cuz Hyundai keep screwing the puch. I would love the n line if it had a camel colored interior and look like a limited on the inside. Like the old sonata limited turbo where you can have a car that had a beautiful sunroof a camel interior no longer do you have the heated seats in the rear like my 2015. No longer do you have to rear shades that you can lift to protect your child when they're in the car seat in the rear of the car. Seems like the 2023 is a downgrade from my 2015
We'll have the Kia K5 GT-Line up LIVE at 2:00 today, and we had the Hyundai Sonata Sport yesterday on our LIVE video series. Feel free to check those videos out too!
Both of these vehicles are front-wheel drive, and they come with excellent 2.5 litre turbo engines. If you want more power, you could get a Stinger which has a twin-turbo V6.
Good evening Peter, thanks for an excellent video comparing the two sisters car. I have the N Line in blue and I love it, I had for 9 years the Sonata 2013 2.0 Turbo and I have never a problem, just regular maintenance and gasoline that's why when I saw the N Line I said I need one ...I have a question Peter I watching several videos about the Sonata N-line and I watch 1 video from Asian Petrol Head, I believe that is his name in RU-vid and he show a feature about the engine sound, the Active Sound Desing, and is driving me crazy because I looking for that feature in my car and I can't find it, I even called this afternoon Rick Case Hyundai in Weston Florida to talk to se seller or anyone who can help me and they don't know how to reach it and I personally believe that maybe to American market Hyndai maybe didn't put it the ASD . Thank you for your videos and keep the good job, I really enjoy your video about the Kia Stinger 2022.
@@ajfagan6627 I really didn't intend on buying another daily driver this year, but my previous one was totaled back in February. When it comes to a daily driver my parameters are: I refuse to spend more than 40 grand, I definitely don't lease because even in retirement I drive too much, and the driver seat and legroom has to be really good because I'm 6ft2 and have nerve damage in my legs from battling cancer. I really went to test drive it just to scratch it off my list. Salesman copied my license and handed me the keys. Five minutes into the test drive I started telling myself I don't want to like this car, but I did. The deal work in my favor and I got it out the door for $29,800 90 minutes later. The ride is firm but not harsh, similar to a BMW or Audi Sport package. Brakes are really good, and it has no business being as fast as it is. Torque steer is not the problem that the internet makes it out to be. The tires are a big help but it definitely should have had an LSD at least. Yeah I know to those that drive their egos it's just a Hyundai, but it's embarrassed some fairly expensive German machinery as well as others. The Accord is a decent car, well it's a Honda, but the driver seat did not work for me at all. It's fast but it just had no personality. Camry was not on my radar. I looked at the Mazda 6 in 2015 when I bought my last daily driver and I didn't like the lack of power and the driver seat didn't work for me at all unfortunately. I still think it's a beautiful car. Even with the nerve damage in my legs, I'm not ready to start driving an SUV that's 7 feet off the ground just yet. So that left looking at the N Line and the K5 GT. Couldn't find the K5 GT anywhere to look at. Honestly I have styling issues with both cars as it is. The N Line was available immediately and I've learned to live with the front end. If I could have built my combination of the two, it would be the N Line interior and back-end with the K5 GT front end. 4 months and 7,000 miles in, I don't regret my decision.
You’ve got to work on your delivery and due diligence before reviewing. The GT does have a bit less headroom in the back. It’s 37.8 versus 38 cu ft. I believe. There are some things that were missed, like the GT has synthetic leather seats whereas the N line has synthetic alcantara suede and leather seats. Also slow down a bit when you speak. Try being a bit more critical of certain elements so as not to loose credibility. Currently it comes across a bit too salesman ish, even though that’s what you are.
I appreciate your feedback, but I should point out a couple of things. First, rear seat headroom specs can be misleading. It depends on where you measure, so I've sat in cars with two inches more headroom than other cars, but in the real world, my head is touching the roof in one car, but not touching on the roof that the specs say is less. Secondly, Alcantara is a trademarked name, and that isn't what is in these cars, so I didn't use that name because it's misleading. As far as being critical, I'm a fan of these cars, I don't try to hide that, I'm going to be genuine. I do point out things that I don't like, if there is something that I don't like, but I view my job as honestly explaining these vehicles to you, and then you can decide if you like them or not. Finally, I do work for a dealership, so if you want to see these vehicles, you're welcome to come see them at our dealerships. I go pretty in -depth, but there is always something left out, and those are things that I can point out when I take the same vehicles back through the video bay the next time that I film them. I hope that helps.
