Everytime I see the k5 in white I always think it looks like a stormtrooper (star wars no pun intended) Anyways I was like damn Hyundai and Kia popping off with visual designs and all the neat lil features
I'd imagine the K5 is set up more for comfort and lux experience while delivering capable 4 cyl turbo power. The Elantra N is quickly establishing itself as the fun performance sedan. Great race unexpected for sure!
Yeah the K5 GT1 is maxed out specs and you get all the bells and whistles while the EN is only 1 trim and you get like the spec of a GT (non-1) model would normally get. You would only find the maxed out spec in Korea unfortunately and due to costs so EN is more focused on that corner carving track performance while K5 GT/1 would be a nice everyday car with a good amount of straight line power.
@@tambrody2684 LSD helps, if the N doesn't have a tune/piggy back there's also octane relearning that can give you anywhere from 15-20 PSI (stock is 15), plus the weight on the K5 kinda levels the playing field.
Holy crap, I thought the beginning of this video was just gonna be a teaser. It felt so weird not being baited for once. Instant sub. Keep up the great work guys.
@@01gtbdaily30 so everyone else isn’t having issues with their cars, I swear you haters always got something to say, but forget everybody is having issues
I really love what Hyundai / Kia have been doing. I don't really have to get a certain brand, but it's hard not to support a brand that is pushing as hard as they are, especially for the budget. My wife has a Kia Optima, she's put over 100k on it, and has been great, I own a Genesis coupe 3.8, and it's been great. Kudos to Hyundai / Kia.
@@HD_Kerino the automatic was never very good(and to be fair MOST automatics weren't at that time besides VW's DSG and a few other torque converters, and Hyundai doesn't have much experience at all trying to make a good manual transmission.. it's in reviews of the car mate
@@roboticvenom1935 Mine has been great. Not sure what experience you've had in them. Had my since 2013 (3.8 rspec) Borla exhaust, long tube headers, and intake. I've put over 138k on her, no issues, other than minor stuff. Tail light seals leaking, which is common, and it has horrible traction control, so I just turn that off as soon as I get in the car.
@dnegel9546 I don't see the need for the 2.5 to be honest, just adding more weight. The N motor is pretty stout and proven to be one of the better current 2.0 turbo engines.
Thanks Sam for this video. Both great cars. Definitely will take the k5 for the comfort, features, looks, space... They need to at least put lsd on the K5 just like the EN.
@@sergeysmelnik we've done K5 GT VS Charger RT (V8). The K5 is capable of beating or keeping up with it. The Ecoboost isn't as capable as the RT, and this race demonstrates the edge of the EN over the K5. The outcome would be pretty clear, unless I'm missing something about the Ecoboost.
Having owned a 2022 Stinger Elite, and seeing these vids with both Kia and Hyundai vehicles, i never understand all the clowns who comment on how "its a kia/hyundai, its not reliable/will break down in a year" etc...both make great vehicles for all aspects of life that last a long time Great content as always Sam!
i owned a genesis coupe and seeing all the same problems that other coupe owners had ( leaking sun roofs, water in the backseat leaking in through tail lights, timing chain tensioners failing after under 40k,manual transmission is crap, fake chrome peeling off in interior etc etc...) i can totally understand why some people make those comments however i also own a 2012 kia koup that has 85,000 miles on it and it hasnt had any problems.
My daughter has a Veloster turbo, she's put 140k miles on it, it still runs perfect, it uses a quart of oil between changes but runs great I'm surprised.
@@mrt2734 they really aren't phenomenal they are indeed hit or miss my genesis was a piece of junk with terrible quality but my kia koup has had no problems. The quality control isn't great even down to the consistency of the paint codes. And I'm not bias to one brand or another I have an audi s5 a camaro ss and a suzuki xl7 as well.
Bought the Elantra N in performances blue 4 days ago, satisfied asf. Traded in my K5 Gt-Line, was really looking for the k5 GT but my area and ones around me didn’t have any nor were planning on stocking up on them. Took months and finally a Elantra N showed up, had to snag it since k5 GT is no where. Love it, always drive in N mode and the pops are glorious. K5 looks are unmatched and very unique I’ll miss it but, I was looking for something very close to sports-like. 42k for it unfortunately because of markup but it is what it is, worth it, definitely tuning it in a month or so.
@@WatchesYouAtNight yeah however I’m not gonna go for another 42k car then look at the markup price of 7k for it to be 49-50k it was best I settled with this, satisfied as hell not gonna get a car for exact msrp
@@nyjuanjoga1425 Na there's plenty of decent cars in that segment which you can find without huge mark ups as long as you are ok with buying a year or two old. That's Lexus money.
Yeah, it has a variable exhaust so you can have it quiet, loud but less pops, or buttery popcorn machine. People keep looking at my car and I'm like what, it's only a Hyundai 😂
Now THAT'S a match race! Keep the videos coming. The only knock is the cheap looking and probably feeling shifter. Looks like it belongs in a 1990 cavalier
Yes they have. Not a fan of their cars and don’t own, but they have improved a great deal. The hard thing with their brand to compete against top brands which they do compare greatly is the name. Ppl go for brand name. Some prissy snooty girl would take her brand name bmw over a Hyundai. Sometimes over look the brand and you will be surprised.
That’s not even fair ? It should be Sonata N vs K5? They are the same category. This is a scam of a race in my opinion, Elantra should be going against Civic and Corolla
Don’t look like you guys drove the k5 the right way sad to see such a robbery put professional racers please to do the job so we cah get a real insight it’s like they crusing in the k5 n the dude is flying out in the next car
Considering the K5 GT has the same lightning fast wet dual clutch 8 spd transmission, same engine, tuned to give it more power and torque, and looks 1000 nicer. Unless I'm tracking in the car which I don't, the K5 GT is by far the winner in this comparison. I haven't researched the K5 GT as much as the Elantra N So I am wondering if it does have the same amount of versatility in regards to adjusting engine, trans, adaptive suspension, steering, exhaust, LSD, etc. Not even sure if the K5 GT has that incredibly smart front LSD that comes equipped on the Elantra N.
Can you imagine these two cars in AWD? My wife has the 2022 KIA K5 GT and it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. Gotta get her some tires with grip 🤣
The K5 GT has a stronger engine, but sometimes can not put all the power to the ground, the Accord 2.0T its a more balanced car and with better reliability.
The K5 and nline are two annoyingly frustrating cars because one race they will surprise the hell out of you and another race it will surprise the hell out of you.
@@ItsPaulby Exactly. I have a Sonata Nline now but on Monday put a deposit down on an Elantra N which arrives on Dec 12th. The dealership I am dealing with does currently have 2 Kona N's on the lot that I could likely get a bit sooner but they first have to iron out this recall with the DCT which from what I was told only affects about 65 brand new 22 and 23 vechiles with the dct so not many.
@@slimv3.162 it’s a sedan it’s supposed to be comfortable lol, my point is the Elantra is a sleeper, whether the N or the the SE it has plenty of space and in sports mode has pretty decent acceleration.
@@allenleroy9109 the elantra n is not designed to be comfortable sedan. It's a performance car and last time I checked performance cars are designed for performance not comfort. The k5 is designed around comfort. Even having said that, I believe the elantra n is a far better value for what you get.
@@dnegel9546 it would be 281lbs heavier 🤣. It's been widely reported that the N is way underrated anyway. Most outlets are finding that it's making closer to 280 at the wheels. Which makes sense looking at those rolling races.
Gawd Damn! That was totally not expected. I thought the K5 GT would take the Elantra N but not by much. I was wrong. Damn wrong. It was very surprising and shocking to see the Elantra N not only killed the K5 GT but buried it and nailed the coffin. Game over. Wow. Just wow! I have the Elantra N-Line and may consider upgrading to the Elantra N. Unbelievable. Great job, Sam! Cheers, my friend!
Wow they both seemed to really struggle putting the power down off the line, but as expected the EN was walking the K5 GT on a roll. They both desperately need AWD though to have any consistency on a dig.
For everyone saying this is a track car. It got beat by a VW GLI on a 8 year old platform with sh*tty hanook tires 2019-2021 and 2021-2022. This car is not worth the price. You want something sporty and fun get the N. You want something mature with great tuning potential get the GLI/GTI/SI. I dont see where this car fits. Unless you are some 18 year old teenage boy that has dreamt of this car since you were 12
After that first race I started thinking did I make a mistake buying my Elantra N lol? That was much closer than I was anticipating. Great comparison between the Korean cousins. The EN came through with the Ws.
See I felt and feel the oposite becsuse last June I traded my 18 2.0 Accord Sport for the Nline. Every time Sam breaks out the Elantra N I get extremely annoyed with myself for not waiting a year and instead getting the Elantra N. I knew down deep that it was a brash decision. I just wanted out of the Accord so badly. It is tourture every time Sam runs it becsuse it is such a fsntsstic car!
I definitely was pulling for the Elantra being a strict Hyundai brand owner. Now I could see myself owning a Kia only because everything about the vehicle is a Hyundai. Engine, metal, tech. Hell even the designer and head performance team are all hired through Hyundai. Currently own a G70 and previously owned a Sonata. I liked my Sonata, but I love my G70. Not sure I can leave Genesis after this car as much as I like the Elantra N.
The k5 only offers straight line performance, where as the N is built to go around racetracks, they really aren't in the same class at all other than price-wise.
The thing is the Elantra N isnt engineered to be a straight line racer, take it to a circuit against the K5 i am sure they wont be as closely matched..... but i could also be biased.... i just bought an Elantra N...
The elantra n is definitely made to be an entry level sports car. The gearint, suspension, steering, its just all around a better car. But the k5 is for a more comfy, driver focused vehicle thats great for a small sized family
Just bought a k5 GT. Never thought I would have owned a Kia but it is the nicest car I have ever owned.faster than our rt charger with way more features to customize
By the way. If you manually select the driving mode from the knob on the center console, you can only go to sport. You have to open up the menu on the interactive screen to choose sport plus...huge difference
To those asking for AWD ok these cars sorry no they will never do that. Stinger is there for that. Besides once you put AWD you increase cost and no one will buy it as you approach bmw,Audi and Merc price ranges. In simple terms it doesn’t make economic sense
Do you know if the Elantra was in 15 psi mode or did he do the fuel remapping for 19 psi. Once you refill the car goes to 15 psi untill it goes through a cycle to determine the gas is safe for 19 psi. It feels a lot faster after it does that process.
I think this is dependent on the conditions of where you are (altitude, temp, humidity etc) I’ve tried the octane learning process at least 7-8 times in my DCT and I never got over 15 psi, occasionally it would peak at like 16-17 but I think this whole thing in the EN community is overblown and meant for someone going from 87-93. I’ve always have used 93 and never saw 19-20 psi
@@dubber4life first I hear what you are saying and it can be confusing. I notice it actually takes like 15minutes of driving in highest gear at same speed. Lastly it makes a tremendous difference. I have raced my friend's car in both modes and there is a significant difference in outcome. What bothers me more is that I have to go through the stupid cycle to have peak performance. Also I never know when watching videos if there comparing it to the 15psi mode.
@@dubber4life I have a video showing my car after the learning process and it hits peaks of 20 psi. 5 psi peak difference does make a significant difference in a race.
Truly surprised it was even close. Hyundai should have won in a land slide. Hyundai is lighter n has more power. Damn that kia is built well to even keep up
The K5 is geared more towards an upscale and luxurious sort of feeling, whereas the Elantra N was made for the sole purpose of giving its driver the most amount of fun behind the wheel within its classification.
Can someone tell me why TF doesn't the K5 not have a electronic limited slip differential?!? That is literally the only thing keeping this car from being the perfect FWD sports sedan.
Im probably a bit behind on the story, but The k5 is the equivalent to the sonata not the Elantra, so shouldn't you be comparing it to the forte. Cause ive gassed a few elantra N's in my forte, and its only the lxs model😂
I think Kia is much better than Hyundai. There's something irregular in the video and manipulated. Kia is currently the best ever and Hyundai has gone a long way
