I can't do this every day but I try and look back at comments from the replay of 365 Sports and they are always appreciated and so I just wanted to thank everyone who takes the time to watch us and also comment even if on occasion we disagree or there are some edgy comments...we can all agree to disagree and it's something that's become very rare in today's society. Thank you. Smoaky (the old man in the middle)

People are cutting cable. It’s about subscriptions now. Rutgers for example is in a big TV market … but only about 12 people would pay to watch them on the internet.

Why would there be a super conference number of teams? Whatever makes the most money. Maybe that's 18 each or 20 for one and 16 for the other. Maybe there is a reason to make them even (2 college conferences mini-nfl) although that isn't here thus far.

If the Big 10 wanted UW and Oregon, they would have been invited with UCLA and SC.

The big 10 didn’t invite USC and UCLA. They called the big 10. Oregon with that NIKE/Phil Knight money is going to the big 10 eventually! Kansas and their basketball program are going to beg the big 10 for admittance!

The Big 12 is solid as is. To hear they're comparable to a Pac 12 with USC and UCLA tells me they're underrated.
@liberalmadness7248
@liberalmadness7248 2 года назад
No they’re not. The PAC 12 thought they were “solid”. Kansas could easily take their basketball team to the big 10. When OU and TX left the big 12 acted and brought in 4 teams and that was very smart! The only 2 conferences that are guaranteed to exist in 3 years are the big 10 and SEC. All others Thinking they’re “solid” is FOOLISH

@@liberalmadness7248 if the Big Ten is passing on Oregon and Washington, then they're not going to grab Kansas who has a terrible program in the sport responsible for most of the revenue. As good as Kansas is in basketball, that is all that they would really offer.

Piggybacking on a point you started to discuss about G5 and left behind P5 schools losing buy game money that they support their entire athletics programs with, if these superconferences only play league games all season.... You guys didn't take the next step: that opens the door for a Title IX challenge to all of this realignment, if it causes some schools to start shutting down non revenue sports. Just something to keep an eye on. I guarantee it's been discussed.
@scottgibbs5903

I’m not sure the Big 10 schools would want to share the money with Washington and Oregon. The additional market these schools bring isn’t worth the shared revenue.

I would be cautious about adding a bunch of Pac 12 teams. Why? Because nobody east of the Mississippi cares. All you get is a bunch of small viewership teams. Arizona is a desert with a dwindling supply of water, Big 12 and Colorado already divorced and re-marriages don't work, Utah will be looking for a better offer and jump ship as soon as they get it, Cal and Stanford are a terrible fit culturally, Oregon and Washington...see Utah, Oregon St and Washington St are too far to go for too little return. Invite merger with ACC except Syracuse, BC, Wake Forest and Duke(almost nobody goes to the game, nobody watches the games and finally, this train is fueled by football, not basketball). ACC grant of rights doesn't exist if the conference dissolves. Ten teams is a lot to absorb but the B12 won't get all of them. Once the conference dissolves, FSU and Clemson are headed to the SEC. Possibly Va Tech and North Carolina as well. I think there would be quite a bit of pushback against Miami from UF and FSU.
@carsonc29
@carsonc29 2 года назад
Utah is a solid program, but they arent getting into the BIG or SEC..so the B12 might be the best offer they are every gonna get....UW and OU are only tied to the B12 by rumor..but UTAH hasnt been rumored to go anywhere ...

It's like mid 9 figures, not $100 million, to break the ACC GoR. At least without testing it in court. I don't know how well it would hold up in court BUT... I don't know how much appetite there is for major conferences to test the concept of such grants in court, or to encourage testing them. Notre Dame's exit is over $100 and it's a lot cheaper than getting out of full membership.

The Pac-12 is suffering from total ineptness at the administrative level. They just hired a second dim-wit commissioner and has some of the worst ADs in FBS (Jen Cohen at UW is utterly incompetent). There's no way the Big-12 should be driving the bus vs the Pac-12, even after USC and UCLA left. It still has three of the top four academic schools in FBS (Stan, Cal, UW) along with the Bay Area market, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix and Denver). The Big-12 has Kansas City, OKC/Tulsa and that's it. TCU does not move the meter in Dallas (where I live) it's all Texas and Texas A&M. The second the Big Ten announced they were waiting on ND, UW and Oregon should have flipped the finger to the Big Ten and immediately offered everyone in the Big-12 other than than West Virginia, TCU, Baylor, BYU, Cinn and UCF and become the Pac-16 (TCU, BYU and Baylor would be blocked by Stanford and Cal due to lack of research and non Jesuit religious affiliation). OKS, Hous, T Tech, Kan, Kan State and Iowa State would bolt for the Pac in a snap.

What is happening right now is the beginning of the university transfer portal. Yes, it is becoming a norm due to the advent of the athlete transfer portal. Yet, I also wonder if there will be a conference transfer portal based on a merger/acquisition of the PAC and even the prospect of the ACC merging with a conference. The challenge will be in the positioning of a top three conference positioning themselves from the onset. It is still possible for the Big 12 to become number one due to the university transfer portal that is just picking up steam now.

Latest rumor: Oregon and Phil Knight are lobbying to get into Big Ten. The Big 12 would be the backup plan B for Oregon. If Oregon somehow pulls off the miracle and gets into the Big Ten then Arizona, Utah and Colorado would definitely bolt and go to the Big12.

An ACC merger with the Pac 12 might be the superconference they need. I do think the ACC loses 4 schools, but the 10 leftover with the 10 from the Pac 12 could be a 20 school league. They could do divisions or pods. Yes, this is the one thing I'd be worried about if I'm the Big 12. Now the ACC has a huge grant of rights. Could the Big 12 invite the 8 (or whatever number is needed to excuse the ACC buyout) to join-including Clemson and FSU. They could tell them if you play in the Big12 for 2 years, your buyout will only be 30 million instead of 100 million if you get an offer from the SEC or Big 10. Plus you get the peace of mind that you have a home no matter what. Could that be the way the Big 12 makes themselves a super conference? Not all those ACC schools will get invites to the SEC or Big 10, and that might help ease their uncertainty.
@gwhite7136
@gwhite7136 2 года назад
Remember when certain conference were cancelling entire seasons, some with seasonal delays that were being decided by couple of conference heads who didn't appear to want to salvage anything of a season during the rona? Well this is payback. Those conference teams have long memories and know the revenue lost with such cancellations. So now, many of those teams want out. Who could blame any team in the pac12 for waking up to the realization that your revenues can be decided by jittery conference heads. This is more than payback, it's survival in their eyes. There is strength in numbers of good teams, and if it takes realignment to protect themselves, they want to and will do it.

SDSU in the Big 12 is like buying long call options (a good thing…) 300,000 alumni base. Passionate & rabid as hell when the sustained winning is happening, as we’ve seen with what Steve Fisher has done on the basketball side. Brings 3 million viewers from the Greater SD TV market, a new stadium opens this fall in Mission Valley (new campus with an additional 15,000 students housed there) added to the 30,000 students already on Montezuma Mesa, the area is a recruiting hotbed, no NFL competition… those long calls don’t look so long anymore. And SDSU is on schedule to reach R1 Research Status in 1-2 years. Add a student acceptance rate in the range of Stanford and Cal… Go Aztecs!
