In-studio host, ABC’s Dan Abrams, alongside analyst Tom Morris Jr., guide viewers through the night, giving insight to what audiences see in real time (via a mix of dash cams, fixed rig and handheld cameras), bouncing minute-by-minute between the featured police departments and offering an inside look at each live incident."
A&E leads the cultural conversation through high-quality, thought provoking original programming with a unique point of view. @@Ibugsbunny713 yeah for on OD those are about as useful as a used tampon. someone shoots up, the opioids cause central nervous system depression and you breathe at about 3 times a minute. Narcan binds to opioid receptors in the brain reversing the effect of an OD. thus "killing someones high." thats why they wake up not high anymore and they wanna kill you.

@MonsterVSAnimal2
@MonsterVSAnimal2 5 лет назад
When families know that their son or daughter is an opiate/opioid addict, getting a Narcan Kit from a clinic, hospital, a rehab center, etc. is an AMAZING idea, because chances are they won’t stop the first time they OD. Who knows, that one dose she used could’ve kept her son alive long enough until the cops got there to administer more. It’s unfortunate they even have to worry about having it “handy,” let alone worrying about their child overdosing, but it’s very helpful & probably saved his life.

Why? they'll usually admit it once the cops aren't around but there's literally zero reason whatsoever to admit it to the cops. They're hitting you with that narcan so they can give you a charge and ticket you if you've got anything on you. Can't bill a dead person. The EMT's and Firefighters are the real heroes. There's no reason whatsoever to admit to a cop what you took, at all. Don't care if you don't have anything on you, the proper response is always, "I can't recall."

My parents said I was groaning the same way this guy was, and I remember the 1st time coming in & out of consciousness & I was groaning so they knew I was alive but I couldn’t move, open my eyes or anything.. They had to use Narcan on me 2 times the 1st time, and 5 times the 2nd. Officers saved my life both times, and it’s crazy to think about I could’ve been dead, TWICE. @@geraldhoffman2606 You're actually both right in all likelihood. Surprisingly, it's harder to fully OD on just heroin or opiates alone, it takes a lot in order to do that, and most people nod out before they are able to continue using enough to fall out just from heroin alone. The vast majority of OD's happen because someone was using both opiates and typically a benzo like xanax/klonopin/valium, or heavily drinking along with the opiates. With fentanyl out there of course it can still happen, but opiate addicts are typically always chasing the ability to be as sedated as possible, thus the mixing of opiates and sedatives. Not that any of this matters these days, as pills are so glorified in a lot of our culture, that most kids who become addicts already have a poly-pill addiction long before they're in the deep throes of addiction. *Bottom line: speak out about your internal issues, recognize when you're using drugs as an escape, and get trained in CPR and Narcan administration for when one of your friends or loved ones inevitably needs it. Numbers don't lie, and statistics show that at least half of you reading this will have a loved one or friend with an addiction of some sort. Definitely appreciate how the first responders dealt with the situation. It's definitely hard for both first responders and the person who uses opiates to cooperate since there is feeling of conflict of interest (Can I really not be in trouble if I admit to heroin use infront of cops and paramedics after I wake up from narcan..???) The final remarks of the officer at the end about narcan enabling someone to use heroin is often a debated issue, however people don't really plan to take heroin and overdose with the idea of having narcan there for backup. Opioid addiction is a powerful drive (similar to intense thirst) that causes one to use (even if the substance may not be pure or contaminated with lethal fentanyl), and even with the availability of narcan, opioid related deaths are reaching record levels. This addiction needs medical treatment, and narcan serves as a second (or third or fourth...) chance at life. The hope is that some will embrace this opportunity (with the help of the healthcare team) and pursue sobriety.

Finally got clean and turned my life around, and if it weren't for Narcan and the life-saving treatment provided by EMS I would have never had that chance. At least in my state, you cannot be arrested for any illegal drugs that cause paramedics to intervene/take you to the hospital. This mostly is to help people feel comfortable telling medical staff what drugs they take, so the doctors, nurses, and EMS can best help you without fear of legal trouble. I believe the most that the police can do is confiscate any drugs they find on the scene.
@theothernguyen
@theothernguyen 5 лет назад
@@jaredcook695 yup there are usually legal protection from arrest. But if you take someone with poor health or legal literacy, had bad run-ins with law enforcement, most would shy away from being honest. If someone had decided I deserved to die of my own 'stupidity' I wouldn't be here today. I have made a lot of poor choices in my life but I didn't choose to become addicted. It's been over a year sober and I still find myself thinking constantly "I can't believe I'm able to get up and function without the drugs." Once you are addicted it's no longer a choice, it's the only way you can see yourself living and it's all you know. If it was a matter of willpower or good sense then we wouldn't have an opiate crisis in this country...
