So this is what I dont get about american firefighting. I get that it has worked great and all firefighters involved did a fkn good job. But why would a chief, de-facto incident commander need to direct all lines? This to me is so abstract, it just is way too much on an incident commanders mind, in my opinion, and they way we are trained and we work over here, he should just give a task to his lieutenants or whatever it would be, e.g. "protect the exposure here, use 2 lines" or whatever, and they'd be able to do that without needing to be directed by the incident commander all the way. To me this always was a disadvantage of US officer systems. Sure if you climb the ranks from down bottom to chief, you bring a lot of experience, but sometimes you never learned to take a step back from the action. I dont know if what he did here is doctrinally correct over in the US, but for us this would be unthinkable.

I spent 20 years in a volunteer fire dept. Our deck guns were pre-piped. They were always set up and ready to go. Since our town was mostly rural, we depended on tankers. Our area has a very well-developed mutual aid system. We could have multiple tankers available in just a few minutes. All the depts carried portable ponds, so tankers could empty in just a couple of minutes through the fast dump outlet. That is the quickest way to ensure an adequate water supply, even with deck guns.

As an Australian young man myself born in 1998 from Lakemba, New South Wales, Australia I really look up to firefighters the men and women who work extremely hard to aid & rescue people in danger whether they are boys, girls, men & women. They even save animals which is very sweet. Firefighters are truly incredible human beings because they are so courageous and so selfless. To me they will always be my heroes. As human beings we should all follow the three principles of life compassion, empathy and love to have a more perfect union. 👍🏾 🚒

Those New Jersey Firefighters did an outstanding job knocking the fire down on those 3-4 abandoned houses. That captain knows his job.

Trenton NJ batallion cheif needs to send the wannabe fireman on the first structure fire back to school. He doesnt understand what or why to keep adjacent structures wet. That fire gets unbelievably hot and doesnt take old structure to catch. Empty or not if that spread he just jepordises his fellow fireman. Batallion chief was loud and new what to do, kudos.

It could be a Probie who’s on his first fire which I think everyone agrees can be a confusing time especially with 3 structures going and everyone yelling

If I were a firefighter, I'd choose that Trenton battalion chief to be my chief any day of the week, he made everything go smooth, great fire suppression and spread strategy, I love it
