When I was a kid, we would go up to the Lake of Three Fires with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins for a picnic followed by swimming. Then, we would go back to Stanberry (another local town) for their carnival with lots of rides and fun things to do. We would follow that up with fireworks at either my grandma's house or my aunt's house. I absolutely love those memories and wish my kids and granddaughter could experience that at least once. Thank you for a wonderful show today. Susan is amazing. I love her personality and how her mind works.

My favorite summer memory was when I was 8 years old and there was a small craft store in my home town. She held classes all summer and I learned to sew, knit and cross stitch. I still do all three at 63! Now I’m sharing those skill sets with my grandchildren.

Susan what a wonderful personality and energy. Thanks Kimberly for this interview and bringing her books to your publishing company as we know the quality will be spot on. Susan I remember seeing your color wall of stash displayed in a magazine, it was art. My favorite summer memories go back to a wooden swing that was in my grandparents back yard. It was 2 wooden seats across from each other with a wooden slat “floor”. The memories of sitting with my parents, my cousins, my grandma, my grandpa and the stories we shared and were told. Grandma would teach me embroidery as we slowly swung back and forth. Smelled flowers from her flower beds, freshly mowed grass as we cooled off from mowing their huge yard with a push mower, or cooled off from picking bushels of cucumbers for delivery to the pickle factory for sale. I was truly blessed and am so thankful for the simple times.

My favorite summer memory was an Independence Day celebration on the lawn of the community college in my parents' hometown in Pennsylvannia. We were there with three generations of my family. Local families were on quilts/blankets with their picnics, kids were playing all over the grassy knolls, and there was a live band playing patriotic music. The band played tributes to each military branch by playing each them song. It was all followed by fireworks overlooking the lake! Awesome day! Susan's "Summer Memories" quilts would be perfect for those kind of days!

My best summer memory - was sitting on the front porch steps of my grandparents house eating watermelon with my grandpa. My best summer memory was staying at my grandmother's house in the summer. I loved strapping on my roller skates and skating on the sidewalks near her house. I got to go to the county fair with my cousin. We would spend all day there. My grandmother used to tell me family stories when we sat outside on the patio near her flower garden. I got to watch my grandfather oil paint and also got to watch him build furniture in his garage. I found out recently that I was the only one allowed to do that. I love the new book and am excited to make the Lazy Afternoon quilt. It is my favorite. I'm using fabric I already have. Thanks for a lovely presentation today!

Best summer memory: The best ever summer was when my "Heart Light" took me to see the icecap! OMG! I got to touch it, stand next to it and the air was so pure, that I became intoxicated by the time we left. I have chronic airway disease (life long) from birth so the air was so pure and clean. I have never been able to experience that till then. It was truly amazing! I have photos of us standing inside a small cave that was part of the icecap. Nature is truly amazing!

My best summer memory was to go crabbing with my grandparents while visiting Virginia Beach. My grandmother saved chicken necks all year long (frozen) and when we would come for our annual summer visit, we would head out for the shallows and attach the necks to a string. When we were kids, my family had friends lived in the country about 40 minutes from our house. We loved going there, playing in the silo, riding the horse, pumping water (they were very primitive at that time). They were actually neighbors to my great grandparents. After I was married, my husband helped them on the farm. This was 2 sisters and a brother that lived together snd never married. So many fond memories of Richard and ‘the girls’.

Thanks, ladies! Today's discussion was fascinating. Love your quilts, Susan! My best summer memory.....when my Aunt let my friend and I come spend a week with her at her beach house in Newport Beach, CA. The house was built in the 30s or 40s, and was right NEXT to the beach....there was only a sidewalk between the patio and the sand! I think we were about age 12 at the time; this was in the late 1960's. My Aunt was pretty chill so she let us have a lot of unsupervised time to play in the ocean and walk the beaches and piers in the area. The guest bedroom was upstairs, facing the ocean, so we kept the window open so we could hear the waves and feel the salt breeze all night long. Not a care in the world. That week was heaven on earth!

My favorite summer memory was taking swimming lessons. We would load up on a school bus, go to a town close by and be with friends. For 2 weeks we would be away from home in the mornings, shivering cold but loving every minute. I think it cost around $5 per kid and 3 of my siblings attended as well. The ‘60’s was a really great time.

Best Summer Memory was when I was about 10. I lived in Seabrook TX and all of my friends in our neighborhood in Seabrook rode unicycles, about 8 of us had all learned how over the previous few years. There was a huge 4th of July parade scheduled and we all decided to ride our unicycles in the parade! It was fun but the stopping and starting in certain parts made most of them give up. My dad had put an American flag on a broomstick for me so I could lean on it or have a way to restart pedaling with out holding on to something. I was the only one that made it all the way through the Parade day! Great times on the Bay for sure! Happy Summer Memories to you both Kimberly and Susan! What a great show today! Thank you so much!

My most loved summer memories are beautiful days spent at my dear friend’s home on a tranquil lake in Minnesota. Mornings began in a warm robe with a hot cup of coffee waiting for the call of the loons, then a walk through the woods followed by a slow pontoon ride around on the lake often joined by bald eagles. The sunsets are varied each one being even more spectacular! It’s so lovely to end the day with a glass of wine listening to favorites my friend nightly at her piano. That is my heaven on earth! Best Summer memory is our whole family would camp all Summer long to be closer to my dad's work. It was Tamsin Park in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. By the name one can tell it was Native American focused. My two brothers and I had the whole run of the park from sun up to sun down. Camp fires every night, swimming everyday and doing morning hikes permitted us to commune with nature. One or two weeks out of the Summer, the owner would bring a tribe from a different community to share their skills, beliefs and crafts. The sun up to sundown sand painting was amazing! My goal is to develop a quilt that reflects those memories. Thanks for the memories! Karen

My best summer memory: was when I was 14. I was dating my would-be husband. I spent that first summer in Pearland, Tx with my great-aunt and uncle. They had a daughter that was the same age as me. We spent that summer riding horses, picking fresh fruit, and my boyfriend and I would write novels to each other (seriously, our letters were between 15 and 31 sheets long. We used both sides!) every other day. It was the only year that I can remember where I was just a kid doing fun things instead of working. I was in heaven!

Great show today! Love the basket quilt although I will not be able to sew along. I will watch from afar and maybe someday. Favorite summer memory: A summer day vacation with my young family at a New Jersey beach, Avalon. I am a fussy summer person, as I suffer from heat and too much sun. This was a PERFECT day. Not too hot, sunny or wild in the water. The jelly fish were non existent and the waves were gentle. No sign of Jaws or that annoying seaweed that often tangles around your legs and tries to take you under! Spent the whole day (almost) playing in the waves with my children and husband and I will be grateful for that day for the rest of my life. Everything was PERFECT and the only day at the beach I ever experienced like that!

My best summer memory, oh this question brought a flood of memories with my mom, dad too, but my mom has passed, and I think of her often. We were in a trailer club growing up, and every summer, we would go up to the redwoods for the month of July. The men/dads would get the trailers all set up and leave Sunday evening to work and return on Fridays to spend the weekends with the families. The evening before we set out, my sisters and I would get in our jammies, and mom would set us up in the camper that was already hooked up to the trailer. She would sit with us and have lovely conversation until we fell asleep only to wake up the next morning 3 hours on our journey to the redwoods. I loved that time in July with my mom.

I had wonderful grandparents!! The next year, my mother wanted to move there also - Loved this show & interview - I am looking forward to sewing along on the basket journey!!

My best summer memory is driving to the dry farms that were in the hills beyond my grandparents house. All the family that was large, would all drive there. We would have a great meal and play games. We would wait for dark, so we could roast marshmallows, and sing campfire songs. Great memories. I can’t see a fire, without singing Cool, Clear Water. Lol

My favorite summer memory was when my family would go to the lake and we would have a picnic. Mom would take Fried Chicken. We would spread blankets on the ground. My mother and grandmother did not quilt but I do now and love it.

That was amazing! You have to have Susan Ache on again. She is fabulous and what a sense of humor! I am going to check all my seam rippers later today for dullness…it’s not anything I ever gave a second thought to. My favorite summer memories are of being a kid and going to Big Sandy resort every summer, renting the same cabin each year, and all the fun we had as a family, seeing my parents in a new light, relaxed, and having fun themselves. Blessings and take care.

My best summer memory was having "cocktails" with my grandmother on the patio outside her swimming pool. We had Shirley Temples with umbrellas and cherries in them while playing cards.

You have to keep it 100% with yourself and do what you love. I am glad that you two both still love quilting and have not let the business part of quilting ruin it.🙌🏾

My best summer memories are car trips to places around the country like Williamsburg, Washington DC, and San Francisco. Also when I rode the bus by myself into Los Angeles, took the city bus to my Dad's office, go to dinner and then to Dodger Stadium for a game. Best game was September 9, 1965 for Sandy Koufax's perfect game. I am really looking forward to this book. Thank you Fat Quarter Shop for having Susan on today.

My best summer memory is when I was a child was sitting in my grandmother's yard by her peony bushes in the sunlight and being in awe of the beautiful colors. That is when I knew I wanted to be maker and create beautiful things!

My best summer memories are swimming and living next door to my grandparents and helping them clean vegetables they grew in their garden. And eating watermelon on their picnic table in the back yard.

Wonderful livestream with Susan Ache. Obviously, there was not enough time for all the topics to be addressed. So, I know she will need to return! Thanks for the tips, comments, stories, etc. Can't get enough of this type of content. Favorite summer memories - camping with family. Keep up the great work!

Best memory is the summers of being told to play outside or stay in and doing chores. All the kids in the neighborhood would get together in our backyards and play. We had a fort built in a little patch trees at the back of our property. My dad saw it and built us a super sweet playhouse, but we would be in the fort most of the time. Summer seemed to last forever back then.
