A Joppatowne High School student shot by a classmate Friday died at a hospital, Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said. The sheriff identified the student who died as Warren Curtis Grant, 15, of Edgewood. The sheriff said calls started to come in around 12:36 p.m. Friday for an active shooting situation. The sheriff said it turned out the incident was not an active shooter situation. SkyTeam 11 reported at 12:45 p.m. that the school was being evacuated. The sheriff said a 16-year-old boy, for whom Friday was his first day at Joppatowne High School, shot a 15-year-old classmate in a bathroom. Gahler said it's believed a single shot was fired that struck the victim. Follow live updates on 11 News, the WBAL-TV app and WBALTV.com

Did anyone pay attention to the officer stating the shooter had called in several times as the victim? Wondering if this was a case of bullying gone wrong. The fact he failed to show up to school after 3 days of school starting may be a direct result of bullying. IJS

This is a tragedy for both families. I pray for both the victim and his family as well as the shooters family. i really hope this 16 yrold realizes now how many lives he has ruined as well as his own. For those saying lock the parents up, stop being so quick with the mouths and opinions. you dont know how he obtained the weapon. If his parents gave it too him then yeah, but if he got it else where how are they responsible. im saying put yourselves in the shoes of both families........ plz dont come back with oh my kids would never do that ....... thing is they could and what if u were charged and had no clue your child had a gun....... again prayers to all involved.

Teachers know fools well who their potential seriously dangerous students are. They are powerless in the face of this. In my day, such students were removed and sent to a school for "troubled" youth. We need to bring this process back ASAP.

The sheriff said earlier that the state legislature will not let them talk to the suspect! This is a stupid law in that state, and it needs to be changed immediately! 🤬🤬🤬This kid got his hands on a gun, took it to school and took someone’s life. Law enforcement has the right, or should have the right, to question any suspect! I don’t know who’s on their state legislature who voted for this, but they need to be voted out because they’re not letting the law enforcement do their job! I could hear the frustration in that sheriff’s voice, and I’m sure he’s not the only one feeling that way!!!

I'd feel and act differently if it were a friend/co-worker or family member each based on the relationship (or lack of) than I would a conplete stranger. too. For some it hits differently its a person in their hometown vs accross the globe. Any loss of life is horrible. How it's lost and the relationship to that person will affect you in different. ways. I'm fairly certain even people who are executed for horrendous crimes are mourned by someone. Trying to infer cops are heartless is ridiculous. I'm sure they feel one way when they lose a fellow brother/sister vs an innocent member of the community they are charged with protecting vs a known violent criminal. Each deals with death differently. They are after all only human.
