This is the best interview of this author I have heard to date. Wonderfully profound questions and fleshed out responses. I am thoroughly enjoying Circe. I have now added Helen’s Antigone Rising to my list, as well.

Great conversation. I found it interesting that, in Italian schools, Circe was a "maga", not a "strega". I guess the translation wold be closer to wizard.

Wizardry and witchcraft overlap. Witches can be considered magicians as they work with the elements of air, earth, fire, water and ether. Additionally, for reasons unknown to me, in the English language "wizards" are typically men. "Witches" are women.

Thanks for this interesting interview. I did not know before that: -Madeline Miller spent 10 years working on her first novel, about Achilles& Patroclus, and did not dare tell anyone else in the World of Classics for fear they would disapprove. -Her novels began from rage on behalf of a character in Mythology whose point of view had been unfairly ignored. -She limited Odysseus to two chapters of 'Circe', just as Circe herself is limited to two 'Books', effectively Chapters, in Odysseus' story in the Odyssey. Circe is a wonderful novel in my opinion.
