She is such an *ICON.* "I'm not gonna do anything to Homer. He's fine." and "I got to, then, write a minotaur c-section scene. Which is pretty much a career highlight, I would say." Ugh, *LEGENDARY.*
I wish Madeline Miller would do some kind of story between Persephone and Hades...This idea has so much POTENTIAL, it would be so good... PLS JUST DO IT
Circe was such a beautiful and tragic work. My heart ached during Circe's tribulations and soared with her victories. The ending was just perfect! I really loved the audiobook narrated by Perdita Weeks, I felt like I was sitting on Circe's hearth listening to the witch of Aiaia herself telling me her story. Song of Achilles was amazing as well, but Circe's coming of age story, her mistakes and so on resonated more with me. I only hope Circe's arc of coming into her own will begin to resonate with me in the years to come. Thank you Madeline Miller for your beautiful stories, I can't wait to read your future works!
@@drillxedit as a Catholic i should be offended but then I am not??? Or maybe Jesus and St. John the Beloved? *Forgive me Father for i have sinned. I don't mean to be blasphemous. I'm just gay.
I love how her retelling of Circe is up with modern times, it doesn't shy away of the terrible deeds of the gods, the sexual attacks, the power representation, the subtle acknowledgement of lgbt couples, the evolution of the character of Circe, it doesn't play down on the grey morality of its characters, it feels like an old story with modern sensibilities.
Circe is my most favorite book. I love the style and the story. It is the only book that made me cry when I completed the last page. Such a beautiful and powerful book with a strong character. And the passage is from chapter 15. 😊
A wonderful book. When she writes of Circe’s trials as a new mother, it hit me soul deep. We would literally do anything in the world to protect that tiny life the robs us of sleep, food, time, sanity…. Anything!
Strangelly, or not, when I was reading The Song of Achilles, i though how good it would be in Studio Ghibli’s animated movie style (of course, it would be PG 18)
I finished reading the book yesterday and damn it was sooooo good , loved the plot so much that I really wanna collect all of the editions of it PS- please publish a collector's edition of TSOA and Circe I promise I'll be the first buyer of it ❤️❤️❤️
I was given D'Aurelie's (sp) Book of Greek Myths when I was eight. Big, giant, colorful book. I still have it somewhere. Edith Hamilton is also a great introduction to Greek mythology.
@@Nevena1995 Niels Schneider for Achilles.Found him in Xavier Dolan's I Killed My Mother and Les Amours imaginaires. Didn't check if he still looks the same though
I thought that while reading but I’ve now seen a lot of art having pat as a poc and I think it would probably be great to have more poc in a movie for it :))
It was said in the conversation that Gods were stagnant and did not change...Is that always true, though? What about Zeus when he swallowed Metis and became calmer, and more "civilized" and self-composed? Isn't swallowing a phase in the evolution-therefore, change of the God's?
Only thing that bothers me is that Circe's name is pronounced like Keer-keh. The C is hard. Other than that it was great. Always loved characters that were never totally good but not necessarily evil either.
There is no letter 'C' in Ancient or Modern Greek, so she is really Kirke. For some strange reason it used to be customary in English to transliterate Greek names with 'C' not 'K', and some names like Clytemnestra and Ithaca became established in English with the 'C'. I prefer the softer jubilant sound of Circe pronounced 'Sir-See.
