Yet shite fans will have you believe he was an angel. One dirty bastard. Did it to Campbell and Naismith in derbies. Could have finished the lads career.
@@humbo1063Son on Gomes was more bad luck than anything--it was a challenge from behind, but the injury came from Gomes flying into his teammate. it wasn't a *good* tackle, obv, but it wasn't in the league of Keane on Haaland. you might argue that there was an element of bad luck here, too, because as someone pointed out below, Gerrard's foot catches the top of the ball and flies up into Boateng's knee. (of course, if you don't come flying in like a lunatic, you don't run the risk of such things happening.) the worst i've ever seen was Thatcher on Mendes-you couldn't even really call it a tackle, it was just flat-out assault. as far as actual tackles go, i'd say Dan Smith on Diaby. malicious, needless, in the 90th minute, and basically ruined Diaby's career.
The tackle wasn't actually as malicious as it looks. Play back 07:07 at 0.25x speed - Gerrard's foot was off the ground, yes, but only slightly. His foot catches the top of the ball, causing it to fly up suddenly and making this tackle seem much worse than it should have been.
Yes the change in direction off the ball was not his fault (surprised more have not mentioned that) but the angle of the studs and the launch in he was acting out of anger. The match seemed to have been getting more heated.
