Construction, renovation and demolition are in progress in central Liverpool. We explore what I'm calling the 'central swathe' - a path from the Littlewoods Building in the East to Millers Quay in the west - on the Wirral - looking at new construction with some renovation of old buildings and demolition of a relatively new one. I've included some panoramic views over Liverpool city centre, with Google Earth visualisations and drone images by Cinemaker.

More and more, I am documenting the construction of buildings by taking time-lapse views during the construction. I intend to develop this further in the future.
The pace of development is somewhat slower than in Manchester, but I don't see that as a problem. There are some fantastic new developments in progress in Liverpool and I feature a few of them here.

This was very interesting, especially now I've spent some time in Liverpool and am familiar with a lot of these places (thank you for your help with that, Aidan). I'm really glad to see that they are restoring the exterior of the Walker Art Gallery. When I last visited the exterior of this beautiful building was in a sorry state. I also think the visualisations of the Littlewoods building look great. Let's hope they are able to execute the plans so that this vision is realised. Love "Dave the Hungry Dinosaur". Really a great description and it's good to see he is chewing up that ugly building.

I had not noticed the bad state of the Walker exterior, but obviously it was. I am very hopeful that the Littlewoods building will be reborn in the not too distant future, keep watching AidanEyewitness. Glad you liked my reference to 'Dave'. I like to set myself apart from promotional videos with a bit of humour as well as non-use of industry jargon! Many thanks for your support!

It's making progress, but not as quickly as planned. Maybe that isn't such a bad thing? Many thanks for your positive comment.

very nice video, hope you have a look at some of the more northern progress of liverpool waters once the stadium is complete, id certainly be interested to hears some opinions on how some of the newer residential areas are planned to look. Personally, I think some of the plans look great but i think theres a distinct lack of restaurants and other such amenities that make liverpool come alive. And I think the transport to and from that area of liverpool is lacking a bit, could really do with a vauxhall station on the northern line with a tributary running from edge hill along one of the old abandoned tunnels. That whole dockland area of liverpool needs a bit of tlc i think as its quite an important route into the city and could do with giving a better impression. Anyways, great vid !

All very good points. It seems the shops, restaurants, transport links seem to come after the residential buildings are completed. I think North Liverpool redevelopment would be a good topic for a video. Thanks

Cool video. Always enjoy them. I live in Liverpool. So many failed projects especially the infinity on Leeds street. We see many planning applications online but hardly any ever get completed

Yes, that was the subject of a video I did previously - why are there so many failed projects. Well luckily there are some projects going ahead and hopefully more in 2024. Many thanks for the positive feedback.

There are some other projects in progress I didn't do in this video as I was concentrating the centre. Maybe quality is more important than quantity? :)

Nao entendo as cidades inglesas deveriam ser as mais modernas da Europa com muitos arranha ceus

You don't understand that English cities should be the most modern in Europe with many skyscrapers? More and more tall buildings are appearing in British cities, but not as many as in other countries.

In my honest opinion I feel its a symbol of how some people feel now we left the EU even though I would argue a city is pretty without them

Yes, I am planning to do another Leeds video. There is quite a bit of constructino on the south side of the city centre. I've already done one Leeds video, have you seen it?

Liverpool has a policy of no tall buildings for the sake of it.

Tall buildings are appearing in Liverpool, particularly the ones by Princes Dock. They are not as tall as the ones in Manchester. Many thanks for your comment!

@@AidanEyewitness There are only a few small areas where talls are accepted. Generally the city has a phobia over talls. It goes back a long way. In 1950-51 there was a proposal to built a tall skyscraper on the old Custom House site. It was rejected, as usual. It went to NYC ending up as the iconic pan-am building. The 51 floor Brunswick Quay Tower was rejected in 2003-6. Developers will not go to the city unless they can maximize their land plot. It acts against the city.

@@johnburns4017 Many thanks for that information. I didn’t know about the Custom House skyscraper.

@@AidanEyewitness Around 1980 there was a proposal to built at least Europe's tallest in Otterspool. Never got far. They have an obsession of obscuring views of the Anglican cathedral. All odd as the Liver Building was Europe's tallest _skyscraper_ in 1911. Then nothing after except the Anglican cathedral. The gigantic Catholic cathedral was actually started but WW2 got in the way.
