If I’m going to be completely honest, watching this brings tears to my eyes. I used to sing in a church choir when I was in 1st-2nd grade, and then I quit. Watching this video made me feel remorse, but I’m happy to be able to watch such talented kids do something as incredible as this

Today was rogation day and after the service, we processed out to the garden that adjoins the church and asked God's blessings on the earth and all that comes from it. this was what we sung in procession!

for what it's worth from an Episcopalian across the pond, i found this arrangement beautiful .. the innoncence of children singing praise unto G-d .. simply brilliant!

When you hear our choir you will see why they should be mixed. Really, I think we are pretty good and I reckon these children are just as amazing as any Anglican choir in England.

So good to see a mixed choir at a major Anglican cathedral. I enjoy the difference in sound I hear after listening to a traditional men's and boys choir. But more than that mixed choirs should be the norm in all churches. Why restrict singers simply because they are female? All-male choirs have been the tradition for hundreds of years but it's time for a change. Mixed choirs can be every bit as good. And I don't think God would be upset one bit.

Arica, thanks for you comment. To answer your question, yes I do mean the masculine HIM. In the English language personhood is used along side personal pronouns such as he and she. To use "it" would be an insult as we only use that for inanimte objects and animals. While I agree with you that God is bigger than we can imagine, I am simply using the term that he gave himself in the bible. Hh refers to himself as "He" and describes himself as a father.

I agree about the mixed choirs. Nice descant on the final verse.

I don't understand why anyone would waste their time coming to a site and then bitch about the makeup of the choir, the choice for harmony, the loss of "tradition" or the sex of god. Have we lost the simple human habit of listening for beauty without searching for criticism? And unlike many, I have been to the magnificent Liverpool church where I heard them practice. Soaring arches of sound.

Furthermore, this is a Christian hymn dedicated to the Christian God who has refrerred to himself as I previously stated. Though I don't think God's spritual self has any sex persay, Chist was a man and took the form of a man. Christ is also God therefore the person of Christ in the Godhead is male both in "spiritulal terms" and physical terms. I would like for you to expound more on your ideas, because I would be very interseted to know your ideas and motivations. Thanks!

I do so agree. Sad that so many can't hear the difference between a treble and a (girl) soprano. Sad the distinction between "treble" as pertaining to a boy, and a "soprano" for the female also is lapsing.

Sopranos are Trebles, Trebles aren't just boys. A soprano is a woman not a girl.
