...for those asking why this game wasn't a sell out...you have to remember that the 1980's were a difficult time for the city of Liverpool...mass unemployment...low wages...supporters couldn't afford to go to every game...they sometimes had to choose whether to go to a match or put food on the table...
If you British complain about the 80s, you have no idea how Romania was about in the 80s, all people had a job, an acceptable salary, the dark side is that you couldn't buy too much with those money. The food consumption was radically rationalized in Romania, so nobody in Romania was basically allowed to eat more than a fixed daily ratio of bread, milk eggs etc. Meat was a luxury, was very hard to find. However, talking about this game, if you look behind the goals, tenths of fans were packed on a few sq meters. So probably there the ticket was way cheaper.
@@rogerdecoursey8341 So what what? If Richie McQuillian complains about British economy of the 80s, then what to say us the Romanians about our 80s? :)) ...
Believe it. Liverpool's overall average home attendance that season was around 31,000. Manchester United's average home attendance was around 42,000 despite Old Trafford's capacity being close to 60,000 in those days. Attendances were down for every club though around that time due to various reasons, including high unemployment.
At least first of the 2 canceled goals was valid, it was no offside at Ian Rush. It is surprising to see empty seats at the european cup semifinal, even it was crisis in UK, still it was a semifinal and the ticket cost was not so high in those times. Anybody knows, it was live on TV in England? In Romania national TV did not broadcast the match.
