ESPN Classic's TV series about Liverpool FC's glory years. Here I present episode one. Included matches: Liverpool FC - Stoke City (05.03.1983) Millwall - Liverpool FC (19.11.1989)
I didn't know enough about football back in the day but Rushie's goal against Millwall shows his quiet brilliance. He stepped across the defender to get his hips in the way and checked the guy to knock him back so he couldn't follow the turn all while making the turn and sending the ball where it needed to go. It is simple in essence but the details are everything and he was brilliant at it.
A big thank you first up for this upload. I was a kid back in the 80s, and Liverpool were my love as they are now; having watched this particular game compared to how Liverpool are currently playing under Brendan Rodgers, I see a lot of similarities (including at times the shaky defence!). It's surreal when you think this was 25 years ago, yet to some extent to me, it feels like yesteryear. Liverpool have big characters back then in a lot of positions; not the most skillful, but match-winners and were not afraid of getting stuck in. I enjoyed Alan Parry's commentary along with Jimmy Greaves' summary. My guess is as this was pre-Sky and Premier League, this might have been screened on ITV as Big Match Sunday, live. Even as an armchair viewer, a big miss for me compared to now is when the so-called big teams visit and play at places like the New Den where you know you're going to be up against it from their supporters the moment you walk on to the pitch. There are fibres that were there back then that remain at present within our game, but on the other hand, it has evolved, for the good and for the not so good. One thing for certain, it's great to reminisce the old times - I only wish Liverpool could win a Premier League title in the near future. Cheers
Where is the den now? Liverpool euro champs, yet again! 6times now, Millwall in championship, don't get me wrong I like Millwall I live in London most ov life bu T born in l pool n proud!
there something liverpool team of the 80 did that utd never did in the 90s tht is win champion leagues yes they won one but not two. i still think is side is still better than any team in football they won in europe and and england if english teams didnt get ban for 5 years i think liverpool would of won more than two.
who was the commentator in the beginning at the match against stoke? sounds familiar, is he still commentating these days? well i have a few names in mind, andy townsend? mark lawrenson? jon champion?
Watching this is like watching conference football on a bad day. Oh how the game has changed except players who played then say it hasn’t. Hmm... can’t watch anymore. As you were.
games wee faster in those days in the 80s and 90s. you had scappy games. but trust me there were world class ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JZHmsackU6c.html
+mind your business Much as it annoys me, Liverpool were the team of the 80s by light years. The idea that Everton were better is absurd; Liverpool were the best in Europe, if not the world.
mind your business liverpool won two European cups in the 80s and they won more league titles than everton in the 80s. Liverpool were the best team in the 80s
mind your business Everton win 2 league titles and an fa cup in the 80’s Liverpool won 6 league titles 2 European cups 2 fa cups and 4 league cups . Everton team of the 80’s lol Man your delusional
Its a totally different game than today. This is proper football. Todays game is the one that boring and unimaginative with players like ronaldo celebrated for being average
