The official story of England's Qualification to the World Cup Finals in Germany 2006. All the goals from all of the games! Copyright: Octagon, The FA & Lace
I’ve got the DVD, and I still occasionally watch it purely because I love this era of England. The real golden generation. With the 2006 WC still being my favourite WC to this date. Thank you for uploading this, can watch this whenever and wherever
Do you like being tortured with scalding hot iron rods? This team was good on paper but abysmal to watch. They had no direction, no cohesion and tbh the players were not even the slightest bit likeable.
@@bigmofarah9084 the players were the most likeable group of England players in my lifetime. The most talented group yet the only reason why they never excelled is because we had a terrible manager insisting on a 4-4-2 formation with Gerrard and Lampard at CM, neither of which were known for their defensive abilities which is required as a sort of box to box midfielder that Eriksson wanted
Yes England had the golden generation but let's get real France with Zizou, Henry, Veira especially Henry form had a stacked squad, same goes to Italy top attacker Totti, Del Piero, even Veiri didn't make the squad , Portugal with Figo, Deco and Porto squad with CL glory and last but not least it's Brazil with R9, R10 , Adriano , Kaka. In general 06 World cup full of stars is not only England with golden generation it's full of stars.
England in that period had like a team in the Champions League final every year for a few seasons. This was the time to really show it. All of them in their prime, too. Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Neville, Hargreaves, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney all went on to win Champions Leagues. A proper group of players, but sadly not a proper team.
@@ianhitman you can't make the case of Neville, he wasn't a world class. Rooney just emerged to the scene. Yes he's world class it's a step to early for him. Nevertheless other teams had better players. Brazil, Italy, Portugal, France or even the Netherlands had a better squad than England.
@@ianhitman Most of those teams made the final every year because of the foreign talent, not the English talent. Schmeichel, Van der Sar, Vidic, Evra, Stam, Irwin, Giggs, Cristiano, Tevez, Yorke, Cech, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Desailly, Deco, Ballack, Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Makelele, Luis Garcia, Hyppia, Xabi Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Kuyt, Torres, etc.
There has never been an England manager that has been criticized, harassed and lambasted more than Sven. I was surprised the guy didn't leave sooner he did. England under achieved in his tenure but that's not his fault because he's a brilliant manager.
@@User.adymitch That's true but he had the most talented bunch of players. No England team in any era could have beaten the Germans 5-1 in their own backyard.
We found out recently that Sven said to Rio after his first training session "My centre backs don't run with the ball. They pass" Thereby immediately taking away one of his main attributes. Sven was a boring, pragmatic Swede. Not the ice cool technician the FA wanted us to see
@@hmq9052 Particularly unfortunate that one, when Glenn Hoddle had a long-term plan to develop Ferdinand as a sort of libero/sweeper/centre-back who plays out, in a back 3. He tried in once vs Cameroon in '97 and it went well. Sven really was such a step backwards just as much as Keegan. We all saw it at the time tbf and not just in hindsight.
The golden generation for England that are still yet to win the tournament. I guess Gareth Southgate's golden generation are under the same pressure as Eriksson's one in 2022 World Cup, especially after the inclusion of Harry Maguire.
It’s great but painful to See knowing his life is uncertain 2024 I wish he can recover because I lived sven to watch but brings good memories I watched this and even had the dvd but I feel sad now knowing this great man who won with lazio and managed England 🏴 sad that this man is I’ll I pray this man can survive against his battle with cancer I wish the bus would find away to end cancer in ever part of the body
Golden generation or not, England were pretty awful from 2005 onwards, scraping victories against absolute shite. Rooney was so good and then never played a great game for England again after 2006. We haven’t had a player since that can do what he did
