Highlights of the final of the League Cup (then known as the Milk Cup, due to a sponsorship deal with the Milk Marketing Board) between Liverpool and Everton at Wembley in March 1984. This was the first Merseyside Cup Final.
Dave Waller you are a massive legend like the king Kenny of RU-vid type of level, you kept me entertained through the first lock down so cheers again matey YNWA
My first trip to Wembley, as I blue I travelled with 2 reds, summing up the times, Merseyside united, The disappointment of losing the replay was forgotten when I made my 2nd Wembley trip a couple of months later for the FAC, Great days, thanks for sharing
it was a great time on Merseyside when Everton went back to Wembley that year to win the F.A.Cup , then the charity shield, lpool won league, next year Everton won the league, then year after lpool won it then Everton won it back again. the league trophy just kept going back and forth half a mile in a taxi for 5 years!
Yes it was. Then Everton won nothing after that and haven't since, have been a very average and lower table team since, dice with relegation regularly and look at Liverpool, trophies gallore, even in their so called " quiet seasons they still won cups on occasions, let's be honest here, Everton are definitely the " poor " peoples club on Merseyside, they might have lots of money, but they're a joke compared to Liverpool, a few seasons in the lower league's might wake them up eh????
The first Live "League Cup Final" to be transmitted in Britain (the 1981 "Replay" was transmitted Live in G.B.) as mentioned in the commentary, from then on played on a Sunday.
Forgot about replays for finals in League Cup would be played elsewhere if draw at Wembley. With the amount of fans between both clubs filling out Wembley and travelling from North would have thought if played in Manchester thought Old Trafford would have been ideal choice but opted for Maine Road. Made sense I suppose rather than going back to London. Read replay in 1981 was at Villa Park
Summer of 1984, I asked my school mate Lester who would win the league. He replied Liverpool. I, as a Liverpool fan, replied Everton. They won the FA Cup, lost the league cup and finished strongly in the league. Should have put on a false moustache and gone to the bookies!
Yes, Hansen handled it early on, but what Evertonians never admit is that Heath had clearly fouled Grobbelaar beforehand; he kicked the ball while Bruce's hands were in contact with it, which is an automatic free kick. Despite what people think, the keeper doesn't have to have control of the ball for it to be regarded as 'keeper's ball'. The keeper only has to have one hand in contact with it, and no opponent is allowed to challenge for it.
It's amazing how few trophies Everton have won in their history compared to Liverpool. Just a thought here I think that it's possible that Tranmere Rovers have won more?. As a Scouser myself, age 65, Everton are a joke and deserve to be in the championship, along with the disgraceful man city. Let's hope that Pep goes to Liverpool eh?
You couldn't see the funny side of what I said. Of course your club Everton have won titles and other trophies. I was trying to make Everton supporters laugh, they're a big club, 1 day they might win something again, every club has dry seasons. As a Liverpool supporter it'll be interesting to see how they go after Klopp leaves. If m.city end up in the championship with you guys I personally would like to see Pep take over at Liverpool. Have a laugh anyway, it's better than being upset 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
