I am greatful that i came across this video today.I am so overwhelmed and basically hyperventilating. I just pulled my 9th grade son out of public school, he will be training for the upcoming Olympic team.I am a single mom that has to work,im terrified i meade the wrong decision and do not know where to begin.
Thank you!!! Yep! We picked him up on his last day of kindergarten and his teacher said, “so you’re homeschooling next year?” I answered with a giggle, “no…what gave you that impression?” I was actually pregnant with my 3rd at the time. She said, “well Drew said he’s not coming back next year. You’re homeschooling him!” I literally was beaming and smiling at the thought that he wanted to be at home with me. And I did toss the idea to my husband bc at that time, I was open to the idea. 3rd child was due that summer anyway….and I did NOT want to go back to work. But hubs said no. My homeschool story, how we got here has several twists and turns. If you’re interested, I made a video on it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NYhHyqL6vEA.html
@@OurHOMEschoolPlan That’s so funny! I’ve watched that video. I don’t remember that part though. 😂. Our story was opposite. I was a Kinder teacher and as my daughter got closer to starting Kindergarten my husband was trying to convince me to stay home and homeschool her. It took me her whole Pre-K year to come to terms with it, but I quit the Summer before she started Kindergarten. So glad I did! ❤️
@@jerilyn-ourhomeschooltable awe!! I can see how that would be a hard decision. She was about ready to enter “YOUR” world! 💕 kindergarten is so fun. I’ve often wondered if I ever got the opportunity to teach (bc our former Christian school only requires a 4 year degree, not necessarily a teaching degree to teach there) what grade would be the most fun?? I can’t decide. I think almost certainly that I might avoid middle school. Lol! But any elementary age or high school I think would be wonderful. There’s so many beautiful things about each. (There’s beauty in middle school also, I’m just not sure I could take the attitude and drama all day 😂. I actually did coach 7th/8th grade girls basketball right after I graduated from college. And it was super fun. But I was 23 years old then!!! I was still cool in their eyes! 😂
@@OurHOMEschoolPlan Haha! You’re still cool! 😎 😂😂 In my 10 years, I taught 2nd, 5th and Kindergarten. Every grade was my favorite for different reasons. But I never desired to teach older than Elementary. They’re all taller than me and had too much attitude. 😂
@@OurHOMEschoolPlan he does!! He seems like an awesome kid. One thing that stood out to me was how much time he had for family connection. He will be off on his own before you know it and what a blessing to be creating these strong family ties. Also- loved how you start the day with games. Such a wonderful bonding time. Keeping that in my back pocket for when my four are all older/teens. Also going to check into Faithapedia (I think that’s what it’s called?) to do with my older two girls next yr. You have awesome homeschool spaces too!!! AND I love that your 10 grade son does NOT have a cellphone.
Thank you so much for this video! I will have a senior this next school year and it's making me nervous. She's my oldest so I've learned a lot with her and scared I may have missed something. She's a great kid, very smart so I'm sure she will do great no matter what. I'm just thankful to see more highschool homeschool videos!
I teach my oldest to be a leader as well!!! He’s definitely got the gift of leadership!!! Our dog loves school time as he gets loads of hugs!!! I love how you include watching sports with homeschooling!!! My high schooler is playing basketball but it’s not as big here!!! I agree with the cup thing as my older kids don’t know what a sink or dishwasher is but they end up washing them!!! We sometimes have my older kids getting work done in the evenings!!!

Fun video! Your son is such a sport to let you film him! I was able to attend IAHE convention a few werks ago and I attended all things HS related as my daughter will be in 7th grade next year. My biggest wow moment was learning that certain 8th grade courses can count for and be listed under 9th grade on the transcript with a notation. Wow your son has a large load! Have a great week!
I love this, thank you so much for sharing and giving hope! My teenagers are very rebellious lately and don't even want to do devotionals with me anymore. Homeschooling teens has been a bit challenging with motivation and overwhelm for us, I'm looking to change some things in our curriculum and hoping that helps. Thanks for all your videos, been watching some since I found your channel yesterday. 🙏🏽
You're so welcome! I'm glad I can be used to encourage you. I feel you on the teen rebellion. It's a very real challenge and a very real Mama burden! I've had a very challenging "Teen" year myself, so you are not alone.
@@OurHOMEschoolPlan a huge mama burden! I heard in your other videos about your teen motivation issues and it sounds so familiar (unfortunately)! I'll be praying for your and mine 🙏🏼💗.
We do not have typical school days. Everyday is different! She does morning time with us. Then I try to get all her work done before noon. She does independent work after lunch if it’s not done yet. Since I do so much with her and my middle schooler together….it’s hard to say, “this is a typical day.” Our HOMEschool days a bit chaotic these days.
So the shormann math has a lecture that's 30+ minutes and then there's homework? So would you say he takes about 1 hour to usually complete the math lesson? He is super busy and has a lot of work! What is he thinking about with college and such?
My son said the lectures are about 30 minutes. And the homework takes 30-60 minutes depending. Homework time probably depends some on how quickly you grasp the concepts.
Loved watching this!! My oldest will be a high schooler next year and there aren't many videos out there about homeschooling through high school 😬 Question- what binding system do you use? I don't love what I currently have and like the coils that I've seen you use.
I would love to hear more about his planner. Does he schedule out a week at a time? Do you give him due dates or tell him what lessens need to be done in a week( or other time period)?
Here is a link to the video where I show the planner in more details: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h3HfuC4_Bo8.html He and I kind of work together on when things are due as we keep in touch throughout the week. I definitely don’t schedule out his work for him. I give him the freedom to do that. (Bc he’s a responsible child….if he wasn’t, I might do it differently) 😉
I honestly don’t know what’s accredited and what’s not. I don’t know of any college that asks that (I have many nieces and nephews who are graduated homeschoolers) so I’m not sure what the thing is with accredited. But Bob Jones is a homeschool program that’s been around forever. It has textbooks and also video teachers. Compass Classroom (which I have linked below) has video, but its app is available on phones as well. You can get physical textbooks (or print them) but the reading is also available online. All those options just make it very flexible. If you just want to choose something that has it all, I’d look into Bob Jones. There’s less decisions to be made there. Other curriculum like Compass Classroom, you would pick and choose each subject and topics. Masterbooks would also be a good choice! I don’t think m they have video. It’s all textbook. But you’d have to order each subject individually. Hope that helps!
great video can u do Day in Life for your middle school kids i am struggling with helping my kids go from little kids work to middle school appropriate work
Thank you !! I’m having trouble with the same thing! My middle schooler is a challenge for me in this area also. But I will say this…. Durenda Wilson, a prominent speaker on the homeschool circuit, author of the 4 hour school day, says that until high school, kids don’t need much more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. (And that and Bible study is what we do daily) So while, I do think it’s good to push the kids to challenge themselves to do more, if they are resistant or struggling, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. To me, I’d rather have them enjoy learning and engaging in family learning, then be resentful of the whole experience.
i am a parent of a 3 year old and want to home school her after she ends preschool, i live in CT and was wondering what is the best way to learn how to start.
How to start homeschooling?? With a child that young, you don’t have to worry about much. HSLDA will have your states laws. You might have to inform somebody that you aren’t sending your child to kindergarten. (You may not….we didn’t have to tell anyone). And then you can choose a kindergarten curriculum if you want. Or you could just choose a math, reading & writing curriculum and spend the rest of the time exploring and playing. I have a video about my regrets where I go through some very good tips and things I’d do differently if I were to start over. I have some good advice for you in there too, specifically about the younger years. 😉ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3IX2SK64TFc.html
Thank you!!! He’s worried about driving without GPS!!! First world problems! 😂 I told him he should learn the map of our city and he can memorize how to get there the same as we did! Or he’s welcome to print Mapquest directions. 😜
@@OurHOMEschoolPlan Yes, it's a much healthier option to Gatorade and Powerade. They have an energy formula too - I can only tolerate one of those a day though - LOL! The Bahama Mama is a MUST try!
@@homeschoolteenswithjenny I guess I’ve never even thought much about it. I don’t drink Gatorade either but my kids love it. Right now, the drink of choice by daughters is Alani!! Have you tried those?
