Living 24 Hours with a Berbers Tribe (North Africa)

The Berbers are nomads, wandering through the dunes of the Sahara, all over North Africa. Common in Morocco, these nomadic people have a unique way of life. I join Eva Zubeck and we join a berber family for 24 hours.
This is my first encounter with Berbers, and I learned a lot... like how a goatskin is a great place to keep milk cool, and you can cook bread in sand. Yum, crunchy.
This is the second video in the Mauritania series. Let me know what was the most ineresting moment about our stay with the Berbers of North Africa, and make sure to watch the first episode. Iron Ore train Hopping!

I spent 3 weeks crossing the Sahara Desert in December 1986 from Gao, Mali to Andrars, Algeria. The canopy of stars at night took my breath away and made me dizzy to look at it. The light pollution in our typical city has robbed so many of seeing the Milky Way and the multitude of stars, each with planets and possibly life, orbiting around them.
@srccde
@srccde 3 года назад
However, the stars you can see at night are only those that are closest to our solar system. It's just a small radius within the milky way that we can observe with the naked eye. Everything outside that small radius is invisible to us without technology - and even then the existence of many objects may be more hypothetical than actually proven. For example, we know of the existence of black holes not because we can see them (that's impossible) but because we can observe how it influences things that cross its path, like light that is curved around that massive object instead of going in a straight line.

Agreed - to consistently keep such a positive, optimistic and friendly attitude while travelling to some of these spots that we Westerns would find quite uncomfortable - and under the constant duress of travel itself - is highly commendable. For some reason many people *freak. the. fk. out.* and snAP! when they travel - just being outside of their general comfort zone even temporarily can cause extreme stress, anxiety, and make them totally miserable - so that you often just don't expect it (I've traveled with a few people who just totally fkg lose it, and you don't really see it coming but end up seeing them reduced to the worst of themselves!) But this guy seems to genuinely thrive on the pursuit of the unknown, and many things that would undoubtedly be a source of great stress & make so many other people absolutely miserable seems to give this guy a child like thrill and engage his sense of curiosity & wonder - kinda like the concept of - *"there are some things in life that you do not necessarily because they are fun or otherwise pleasurable, but for the experience itself"* like eating a ghost pepper, but come out of it laughing (after crying and calling the paramedics of course - or whatever 😉 👍

So many interesting moments, man. The faux pas involving shaking hands seems like an easy one for a Westerner to make, as we're taught to shake the hand of every person we meet as a greeting, a sign of friendship, and a show of respect. Trying to drum that conditioning out of your mind and stay conscious of it seems like it would be difficult. Looks like you did your best to adhere to their customs, though! It's also interesting to see how they pour the tea back and forth to create the air bubbles. I know they also do that in India with chai. Haha, loved Eva with the baby goat! That definitely made me smile! The way they bake their bread is so interesting, too. And the bread stew with potatoes, carrots, and camel meat looks and sounds really tasty! Looks like a beautiful experience, man. 🐉🐉🐉🐉
