In this Morocco Vlog, I take you with me on an epic adventure as I spend 5 days living with a Berber Tribe in Remote Morocco, close to the Algerian border. This isn’t your average Morocco Vlog, but an experience to understand the Berber people, a new culture, a new way of life, and to gain compassion and empathy for another group of people.
To start off my Morocco Vlog, and an authentic Moroccan experience in a remote corner of the country near the Sahara desert, I jump on a 10 hour bus ride from Marrakech Morocco to the small town of Tagounite, where I meet the Berber people for the first time. From Tagounite, the Berber Tribe takes me another 15 kilometers to their village. The village where this particular group of Berber people live is extremely remote, a handful of miles away from the Morocco Sahara Desert. The town is made entirely out of mud, straw, water, and soil. The living conditions are very basic, but sufficient. Around the Berber village are palm trees where tons of delicious Moroccan dates are grown.
During my time with this group of Berber people, I learned that there are several Berber Tribes all around North Africa and Morocco. The Berber people have their own language, traditions, dress, and food. During my time with the Berber Tribe, we ate variations of the famous Moroccan Tagine, but most of the Berber diet consisted of bread (lots of bread), potatoes, eggs, pasta, and small amounts of vegetables in a Tagine. The Berber people are traditionally known as a nomadic tribe that move around throughout the year to find land that is most suitable for their living conditions.
One of my original reasons for visiting this particular group of Berber people in remote Morocco was to learn how their home and village is constructed, which is made entirely out of MUD. However, because of the recent rain, we were unable to build mud bricks for their home, so I took a spontaneous overnight trip with my new Berber friends into the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Exploring the Moroccan Sahara Desert was an incredible experience, seeing the beauty and learning about another group of Berber People.
During my time with the Berber people, I learned that there is so much more to the beautiful country of Morocco than just the bustling cities and vibrant souks. I experienced the kindness of the Berbers of Morocco and learned about a completely different way of life than my own.

Wow, rough way to live, but I love the fact that you're showing that not everything is always "vacation mode". Are those bricks similar to adobe?
@MattKramerTravels
@MattKramerTravels 2 года назад
Thanks Peter, I agree that it's important to experience and learn about different cultures and ways of life to broaden our perspective of the world and gain compassion for different people. The bricks in this village are made of natural materials (mud, straw, soil, water, etc.). I don't know so much about adobe but it seems to be similar.
