Aww he's so cute! Just a tip though: try to avoid using his name as a form of rebuke because dogs can then associate it negatively. I just like to stick to 'no' with my own dog and then use his name to praise/call him instead :)

Thank you for adopting a rescue from Puerto Rico! I already thought it was great that you were rescuing but it really warmed my heart to hear that he was from PR and that he went to a loving home. After the hurricane, we couldn't take care of all the animals on the island and i heard that a lot were taken to the US so I'm glad that they are finding real homes

my dog was rescued from Puerto Rico too! She came from one of the big hurricanes they had! She actually had a broken leg and it was never healed so now she walks a little funny. She’s the best thing to ever happen to me!

So excited that you ADOPTED!!! I think Dobby probably needs more outdoor time, a lot of times when dogs are overactive or act out it’s because they need more exercise. I also would avoid Not leaving him home alone. It’s important to be able to teach that being left at home is ok otherwise he’ll get separation anxiety in the future every time you do have to leave him alone. also positive reinforcement is the best way to train!!! I hope you grow a strong bond with your doggy

I think a small kitchen island would be perfect for your apt! One that you can put bar stools on one side. It can act as a dining table and extra counter space for food prep. Some also have storage! My apartment layout is similar to yours and getting the island was LIFE CHANGING!

just a thought but I would consider to train him to stay at the ground instead of the couch while you are eating. It will make things much easier🤗. Otherwise he will do whatever he wants. It´s not avoidable to set some boundaries for a pleasant life with your puppy. He´s really cute tho🥰 be prepared for the terrier life 😅 I have a terrier mix too and as hunting dogs they have a looooooot of energy and are spirited

My dogs a rescue and when we first got him he could not be left on his own (abandonment issues), we just gave him a treat before we left and did it slowly, increasing the time we left him every time x it was a very slow process but definitely worth it because he gets so much less stressed when we have to go out

I have 10 rescued cats at home Mich. This makes my heart melt as an animal lover😭😭. 😍😍

Personally I do kennel my dog but it is ONLY when I'm leaving. If I don't then he will most definitely eat things and get into things he's not supposed to. There's nothing wrong with kenneling your dog when your leaving for a little while. Infact it could be better for them. It can give them there own little safe space to go when they want.

Hi! I work as a vet tech and wanted to give some tips for Dobby! Socialization is really important. Taking him out and meeting a lot of people, kids, other pets is gonna be really beneficial. Also those types of carriers for pets can also cause a bit of discomfort after a long time, getting used to leash walking is going to be your best bet. Leash training is very important and I would avoid buying a Flexi leash (esp for the city). It gives pets too much freedom in their walk and could cause injuries not only to themselves but others. I have heard and seen so many horror stories from Flexi leash accidents (the rope getting caught in a tire, the robe ripping off and the dog taking off). As far as his separation anxiety at home, it helps to give him something really special (that he only gets when you're gone and you take it away when you come back) like a kong toy filled with a bit of frozen peanut butter or a special chew toy. If you're gonna train on pads, put them EVERYWHERE at first and as he is getting used to it, use a couple less and keeping doing that slowly until you are putting one down in a good spot for him in your apartment! Also mess with his feet and toes A LOT... The amount of pets that hate and get aggressive for a nail trim is unreal. Getting him used to people touching his feet and ears is going to be better in the long run. (esp with kids!) Good luck with your new pup! :)

Awww he's so cute!!!! Look into crate training, if you're worried about leaving him home alone! My dog gets kongs and treats she never gets when she's in her crate :) so she loves it, and it's a great tool to use
