So Glad to hear you had a highlighted memorable experience at Mount Bromo in Indonesia, there are so many beautiful places to explore more in our country.
Thank you! Jim is a great guy for sure. Let us know if you have any questions about living in Singapore. We might be able to answer them as we have lived there for four years. - Josh & Kalie
You very lucky guy working in. Singapore for so long you have the foods there good luck to you enjoy them while you still young I, m sure you love the foods in. Singapore they got the best food in the world thank you for sharing your beautiful story
lekobemcgrad y Don't! Singapore is fine but can't live for long. Unless you want get your finances in order at the expense of your freedom to speech and thought, stay in America and help out the economy.
I'm 18 and already thinking about my future haha. If I got an expat package to move here, I'd 100% take it in the future. Great quality of life + expensive but worth it.
You can do it! Life goals. BTW-New video about Singapore just dropped. Maybe it'll motivate you more. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UeJA8ZKFhDY.html
Excellent Interview,Great Sound, (and NO ghastly music over-riding the narrative.) Straight Answers,no 'window dressing'.Wish all interviews were as good as this one. (Ex -Expat of some 30 years. .)
Thank you, Terry. We appreciate that feedback. We're trying to give people authentic interviews with standard questions so that our viewers always know what questions will get answered. Where were you an expat and for how long?
In the RAF ,1955, Posted to Singapore Married a Singapore Girl, Started business with relations, Travelled extensively, was Air Traffic Controller Paya Lebar D1 Joint Military Civil Aviation, posted to Middle East Nicosia International similar job 3 yrs, then Back to Singapore CHANGI 67 till 70,Then went back several times X 6 as Ships Purchasing Officer, also own business importing from Indonesia, HK, Surabaya, & Malaysia, Then went to live in NZ. Singapore was great, THE greatest part of my life, I loved every moment of it,worked hard and made a good living. Times have changed now however,I did witness the vast changes brought about by Premier Lee Kuan Yew, a man I admired for his energy and adaption of a scruffy, poverty stricken Colony to become the envy of many so called 1st world nations.Such opportunities still offer an enterprising individual a good income. It's all about trying hard and relying upon ones own abilities. My late Bro-in law did the same and made his life worthwhile, thanks to the opportunities available in Singapore.
Brilliant! I'm sure you know a very different Singapore. It's wild you used to work in Nicosia. 3 of us from EE are traveling there in a couple weeks. Thank you for your service and we appreciate you connecting with us on here.
A Brit, no doubt. It all comes to light now. Imagine admiring a shameful tyrannical despot responsible for the torture of thousands of human beings. But then Hitler was admired, Stalin,,, Lucifer?
Hi. Good to know about the experience of living and thanks indeed for sharing about the ex-pat's life in Singapore. In my opinion, it all depends on nationality and social status, and the relationships with the other southeast Asian ex-pats from Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma) so on may not really be valued as Americans, British and Japanese. After all, it is all about a matter of which part of the world you come from. Anyway, it's very very safe to live in Singapore. I loved staying and working in Singapore.
Actually there's no rainy season in Singapore. Anytime can have a rain. Other way to call it is Monsoon season where rain is more frequent from Nov to Jan.
Expats Everywhere you are most welcome! When you get chance, can you please interview Expats working in IT area in Singapore? Would like to know about the work load, working hours and pressure etc compared to USA. Thanks
Consider it done. That's a fairly easy one for us to do since 3 of us are based in Singapore at the moment. Is it alright if the IT person isn't American?
Expats Everywhere Awesome. American or Canadian are all fine. If you can also salary info for different range of experience and different levels of positions such as developer, senior developer, development manager etc will be appreciated. Any kind of information related to IT, directly or non directly experienced from interviewees', is helpful. Thank you again for the warm and prompt reply.
Thanks for the comment. Here are a couple if you haven't seen them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AVYLsu08qPo.html or ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ef1lP6-nh-E.html
Thanks, we'll try something. Sometimes it happens where it only plays on the left side and other times it plays on both. We edit on an iMac usually w/o headphones so it's hard to tell when the audio problem is going to happen or not.
Expats Everywhere , very helpful video.. thank you.. good job.. I'm also willing to work there but I don't know how to find job there.. anyway thanks a lot...
Hey, Above & Beyond AC, we really appreciate the support. We're based in Singapore and I believe we're going to start putting out more content on Singapore from Josh and Kalie's perspective.
Experts everywhere, greatest idea yet, it can help or assist newcomers settle into ANYWHERE from HK to Surabaya, Penang To K.L. and Turkey and Cyprus, its all strange in a new country and if there is a base where folks can pick up information that assists in their settling down, 'Expats everywhere' is it.I know, been there I forgot Sri Lanka, (very pretty country and great people too and the food,WOW, ) perhaps the concept could grow faster given the mix of skills, languages and knowledge gleaned by 'Old Timers. Best Of Luck everyone. Cheers Terrry
While it's true that the work culture is in general more stress than most places in Singapore. There are different work cultures at different places of employment. Jim's was good.
It seems very mixed culture....but the immigrants/visitors have education/training/working skills so can get a job & support themselves. Nice weather but 24/7/365 except for rainy season. NO riots/agitators/antifa because you're expected to get along + they value peace/harmony/relationships.....Small island country with STRICT LAWS & SWIFT JUSTICE. If I were younger, I would def move there.....
I was and still consider moving to Singapore but I keep hearing that fitness trainers aren't paid enough to make a living in there...I'm still confused about what to do..
Great question. I imagine that a lot of fitness trainers are on local wages not expat wages, however, gyms are quite expensive here. www.crossfittanjongpagar.com/pricing/ We've met the gym owner here. He's an expat. Maybe you could email them to see how much they pay.
Sebastion,You may find that if you add ANY of the martial Arts to your proposal relating to Fitness training, you'd be welcomed, although generally speaking, there are a large number of Martial Disciplines in any Asian nation therefore ,you'd have to offer something outstanding. Also, fitness is a common way of life in most Asian nations, rather than propping up bars, sitting for hours smoking or watching TV (a typical Western Problem) in Singapore, there are many areas where one may find fitness freaks, McRitchie Reservoir area for example, Gardens by the Bay etc., and around Changi where beaches are a good start, best go and have a look and make up your mind,do a little research, you wont regret it. Best Wishes.
Great question. Currently on Property Guru, it's $199/month. Check out www.propertyguru.com.sg/property-for-rent?status_code=ACT&market=residential&include_featured=1&_ref_section=ls&property_type=H&maxprice=1000&beds%5B0%5D=-1&limit=20&sort=price&order=asc&property_type_code%5B0%5D=1R&property_type_code%5B1%5D=2A&property_type_code%5B2%5D=2I&property_type_code%5B3%5D=2S&property_type_code%5B4%5D=3A&property_type_code%5B5%5D=3NG&property_type_code%5B6%5D=3Am&property_type_code%5B7%5D=3NGm&property_type_code%5B8%5D=3I&property_type_code%5B9%5D=3Im&property_type_code%5B10%5D=3S&property_type_code%5B11%5D=3STD&property_type_code%5B12%5D=4A&property_type_code%5B13%5D=4NG&property_type_code%5B14%5D=4S&property_type_code%5B15%5D=4I&property_type_code%5B16%5D=4STD&property_type_code%5B17%5D=5A&property_type_code%5B18%5D=5I&property_type_code%5B19%5D=5S&property_type_code%5B20%5D=6J&property_type_code%5B21%5D=EA&property_type_code%5B22%5D=EM&property_type_code%5B23%5D=MG&property_type_code%5B24%5D=TE I know this is long and ugly but it's preset to take you to the lowest price room in Singapore.
Great question. Sorry we don't have that answer straight off the top. We'd have to do some field research. From the off, French isn't very big here at all and it doesn't appear many companies are doing business French to English.
Hi EE & Jim, keep sharing your awesome tips! Really helpful for our overseas clients that work at our cowork space a few months out of the year. Thanks for sharing, have the best day! Hi The Office, thanks for writing us and leaving the feedback. 3 of us are actually based in Singapore. We're glad this stuff helps your overseas clients. Thanks for sharing the video.
Good question. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NkFQR5hfbNE.html Generally, an expat is someone living indefinitely somewhere or for a specific amount of time. Immigrants would be leaving their home country for a new country on a permanent basis. By simple definition, they're the same because they've both left their home country. In more modern times, expats have higher salary packages. Check out that video for a more colorful answer.
Awesome question and thank you for it. (As expats) Singles, especially those in certain industries, will share a flat (apartment) with colleagues. It's certainly more common for young people, but that's the same as Europe. There is also the occasion where someone will rent a room from a family.
Lewis Lewis try San Francisco, Toronto, Dubai or Tokyo. People who aren’t clever or have a lot to take care of will find 60k isn’t much. Single and no debts? It’s a breeze. Except in Dubai lol
