Welcome to Singapore a Sin-City.... Food just too much variety (eating too much), Transport too convenient too cheap(don’t bother to walk), weather too hot(most of the time in the malls), Airport (more shopping then traveling), etc..

Wah, so true about food! Foreigners and tourists seem to think because Singapore is very expensive, no choice except spend a lot to eat here. No lah. Recently, we are doing some shopping in Jurong and go into a shopping centre because, well, it's a shopping centre lor. We have a quick lunch there and total one pax S$5.20! This is about US$3.90. Cheap ah! Quite nice also. Noodles are Q and tasty pork. Happy Kiam Siap Queen! But girl with me buys from different stall and spends almost S$10! Crazy rich Asian! 😄
Hahaha crazy rich Asian kiam siap girl, I also buy from different stalls. At least 3 items for me each time 😹😹 but that’s still what I spent. I think $20 a day is good enough. 😋😋😋😋
As a Singaporean who has also done my fair share of min travel around the region, I can attest that, other than automobiles and real estate, Singapore is one of the most affordable places to live. Our dollar is also a perpetual strong one, so we can buy the best stuff lifebhas to offer. This is to be expected, since we are an import-dependent country. #ilovesingapore

The average home and car cost is about 14 times the average annual salary. It US it is 4. Japan is 8. Australia is 4. Hence its one of the most expensive city in the world.
Yes,you are right, the living cost is relatively lower if you are living as a local. However, the weather is a big challenge for some one like me. This is a reason I left Singapore after lived the city for more than 9 years. Cheers!

Hi! I love it that someone finally made a video putting into perspective that it's not really that expensive to live in Singapore! 👍🏼😍 I guess what made it really expensive on those surveys was including owning a car which obviously NOT a necessity because first it's a tiny country and it has a very reliable, convenient & affordable public transportation. Here in Canada, sure, you can own a used car at even $1000 dirt cheap, but it is a NEED because of the vast landscape of the country and the unforgiving weather. ❄️ If I may add to your list, I'd say hiring help for families working full time with young children is very affordable. In Canada, caregivers are paid up to $20/hour so if you're a working mom it's like working to hire one, so some mothers just give up working and stay home for the kids instead. I lived in Sg for 3 years until Y2012, and I was spending only $600 monthly for house help expenses back then. And having an extra hand to help, really gave me the life balance to juggle career, home needs and personal time. New subscriber here, looking forwards to your next videos!

Thank you for this video! I have ALWAYS maintained that Singapore is NOT an expensive city to live in, as reported by media journalists who have probably NEVER been here!!!
i know! Media also reports differently when they have never lived in SG!! i am glad to find alliance like you 😊 i just want to produce videos from my own reality perspectives, rather than having people see the media. do your friends agree too?
Not correct. Seeing a doctor at the HDB estate will cost you between $60~$80 (Sing dollars) for a common sickness. A private one will cost you more. Medical is not cheap for Singaporean & even more expensive for foreigners. A visit to the doctor at the polyclinic (government subsidise) might cost you $20 and that’s for the elderly. I am 70+. If ever an ambulance will to take me to a private hospital in an emergency, I will stop the ambulance and walk out. Medical fees in a private hospital will cost you a ‘bomb’ I will die from heart attack instead of the sickness if I see would to see the medical bill.

Once a foreigner knows the ways of the locals, then you will know that singapore is a liveable country for reasonable cost. The problem with expatriates are that they want to be treated like King and be pampered with. Of course that comes with a cost. So if one chose the latter, just accept it and stop complaining singapore is expensive.
hahaha correct, right! i'm aligned..... Did you see my other Singapore videos too? :) Thanks for subscribing! Don’t forget to turn on notification (next to the subscribe button) for my weekly uploads :)
Don't how many Singaporeans remember the expatriate who claimed that his $30,000 monthly pay couldn't cover his expenses in Singapore (he wrote to Straits Times about it and itemised his expenses; he left Singapore after that). Personally, I believe that he didn't know how to spend within his means.
Love your Singlish! Haha. You’re spot-on about the cost of living here; as a local it is certainly possible to have a great quality of life at a very affordable cost!
@@TheKrazyKoala Generally under 1k excluding rental as I don't incur that yet haha. Food averages $8 per meal, the rest goes to transport, memberships and bills
I have been traveling and working oversea in many country for almost 26 to 27 years. The most expensive items in Singapore maybe is the house(I mean Private House) and car. Beside that others items are not so expensive. Some of our dairy need items even more cheaper or almost the same with many country.
Thanks for sharing this information. I have been insinuating to my wife that we should visit Singapore and maybe she likes it. We are currently living in SF and the cost of living is insane! We have a 2 and a half year-old daughter and we love it here because of the outdoors activities. I am under the impression that Singapore has a very good education system for bilingual education? Anyways, thanks for the insights into your thoughts. Keep it up!
Oh yes certainly. SF cost is really crazy. I recently came back and felt i couldn't afford anything 😂 SG is english mainly, but you can pick second language. Glad to have you on my channel! Hope to see you again on my other videos! :) Thanks for subscribing. There are quite a few other SF exodus & detailed SG videos that you can check out too. Agreed. The ranking of world most expensive cities are inaccurate as the basket includes a lot of 'good to haves'. But we just need the 'must have' and it's true that one can access to cheap and achieve a good quality lifestyle. Except for those whom fight for total human rights, free speech, adult entertainment, u can't get it here. But one whom look for safety, greenery, good air, multicultural, quality (public) housing, good education system, as priority, it's definitely a place to live.
thanks for such detailed comments on my videos and the singapore living. yes, i also totally agree with you on everything you just said here. there are too many wrong perceptions from media about the country, and no one really stands up to say the truth and show the other side of Singapore 🇸🇬 . The only problem is housing. 2k usd for a single room is crazy high especially if you consider there are many landlords discriminate against renters based on gender, race and nationality. In the other countries you compared to singapore. 2k usd for a single room isnt the only option for a decent place. If you don't live in New York or San Francisco you can get a much more reasonable price for rent. Obviously those other places have their own issues as well, but just saying.
Moving to Singapore in two weeks! Cant wait to be there....currently we are in London and its way more expensive. Transportation is expensive and horrible, housing a lot more than in Singapore to be honest and the same with food!
Oh wow, great 😃 - aren't you excited? you will have an amazing time in SG!! traveling during pandemic is not easy, and moving is even harder! how do you manage to do that?
@@myoung1970s oh hahaha Hi Hi Singaporean, I really don't think it's boring. Thank you so much for sharing Singapore's costs(Not many people do!)Although we have no sales tax,and a very good Public transit system,Portland,Oregon, like other major cities here, still winds up being expensive. For the money,I'd live in Singapore over SanFrancisco-New York ANY day!
@ Haoziran it really depends on how you define "Cheap". If you make local currency and eat local (i.e. eating at food centres in suburbs) it will be affordable. as versus to the fancy food joints in towns will naturally be higher. Unfortunately, for housing and car is on the higher side; this is largely due to the land scarce and cars have to be limited due. That said, estimate 80% of Singaporean own their own apartment.

The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore, depicted as a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Extracted from Wiki :)
if COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted, you could take a train or bus to Johor Bahru, it is 3x cheaper than Singapore. Just 45 minutes away from Singapore city .
Thank you for explaining the differences on the cost of living there. I love Singapore and wanted to visit there one day. Can you show us some good places to go too?
Hi Ashley! Singapore is well-known to be the food capital of the world. I would like to share the various air-conditionered shopping centres, restaurants and food stalls provided in large shopping malls for tourists or visitors who are not familiar with these interesting places or destinations. From the famous Tanglin, Orchard, and Bras Basah Roads, you have Tanglin malls, Shaw centre, Far East Plaza, C K Tang, Lucky plaza, Ion Orchard, Wisma, Takashimaya, Paragon, Centre Point, Sommerset, Orchard Central, Singapore Plaza, Cityhall, Suntec City, Marina Plaza and . Others include Bugis Juncture, Parc Oasis, Lau Pasat, Funan Centre, Sim Lim Plaza, Mustaffa mall, Kovan food, Serangoon hawkers, Bedok malls, Tampinese hub, Marine Parade Shopping Centre, Katong shopping centre, Sengkang shopping centre, Thomson Plaza, Toa Payoh shopping malls, IMM Shopping Centre, Westgate, JCube, Jurong Point, and Vivocity. Places of touristic interest also include Haw Par Villa, Sun Yat Sen's Villa, Mount Faber, People's Park, Bugis Juncture, Changi Village, China Town, Victoria Memoral Hall, Parliament Building, Little India, Arab Street, Haji Lane and Holland Village.
Hi Koala, I'm glad you have visited most of these places. As many tourists stay in Singapore for a short duration, it is helpful for them to know that although it is a small island there are so many eateries or places available for them to explore. Food prices range from S$2.50 to S$25 or more per dish are available, depending on the food or where you are visiting.
more places which I forgot previously: they are JEM at Jurong East, Paya Lebar Quarter, Golden Mile Complex, Millinea Walk, Marina Square, Esplanade Mall, Fort Canning Centre, Great World Complex, People's Park Complex, D'Resort Wild Wild Wet, Riverside Walk, Bukit Batok Westmall, Bishan Lot 1, Old Airport Road eatery, Newton Velocity mall, East Coast Beach foodstalls, Changi Village foodstalls and Tanah Rata Exposition Centre.
Koala Bear, what u said is also correct lah! If u don’t pursue branded clothes, branded housing, branded food, branded wearables, cars etc. Simply accept the needs rather than wants, is true that Spore is affordable. Nowadays, I seldom patronised hawker Center or kopi Tiam, I do my hearty meal by cooking claypot rice, prawn noodle, spaghetti, nasi lemak, nasi briyani, curry beef or chicken, fish ball noodle, laksa, mee siam, Chee Cheong fun, KL Tai Lok Mein, Hokkien prawn noodle, Canton hor fun & fried rice, Canton soup, Teochew porridge etc esp lost ancient Cantonese cuisine in olden days of Singapore & French cuisine at home. U can eat a few day by cooking extra storing in a fridge. As for travel, due to Singapore is at the tip of the south & attached to the mainland, u can have holiday to the southeast nearby countries for different cultural experience. For the past 25 yrs + , I use to ride my big motor bike or drive my Toyota Harrier to Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Burma, Vietnam for cross countries holidays. Is fun & is eye opener to travel to kampong/ rural areas taste the life of the locals, cultural differences compare to an agency package travel. Just solely one country of Thailand, is too big, too much for u to explore. Next trip, I will plan to do it on a 2 wheel bicycle. Seems crazy but will do it before I expired or my expired mother call me.
@@TheKrazyKoala sis, why laugh at me leh? I know 1 day I will accomplish this. I’m inventing something to accomplish this. Maybe u need it too someday. “I’ll be back”.
Public transportation and tax in Singapore is awesome, I believe both are number one in the world. But from my experience both SG and USA, I disagree on food and fitness. Hawker center food is great, I love enjoying food in Hawker center, especially, milk tea, but in Singapore, I pay $10, $100, $300 for good restaurants but didn't worth it compared to USA. Almost every food I had in LA and SF was really great regardless of price. USA is like the heaven where all of the best food in the world gather in the same place. Meat and vegetable was so fresh and even Korean BBQ was better taste than BBQ in Korea!!! Because Singapore is small country, can't afford to have farm and ranch, all food is not fresh as I am paying for. Secondly, Fitness, I like workout in the gym. USA is a such a huge country and have a lot of gym options in very reasonable price. Two-story building was only for one gym that include swimming pool and basketball court, and I only paid $55 a month. But here in Singapore, such a bad and rusty gym cost $S100 and more, and even 10 times smaller than the gym in USA. But overall, I liked to watch your videos! very informative and good point of view. Hope to see another good videos soon!
Singapore: We are cheap and have everything! Nowhere else is more ideal! Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, China, Philippines: Hold our beer..
Basic food stuff at hawker Centers are ok, but if you eat at fancy restaurants, the food would be expensive plus another 30% for additional things such as service, tax, paper towels and ‘peanuts’. Houses and cars are beyond the moon, unless you buy Low end government housing. There are good countries to live in without the huge expenses.

Monaco is the most expensive city/country in the world, with property priced at $60k usd per square metre. When you have a scarce land, somethings are bound to be expensive but I am sorry to burst your bubble as Hong Kong is more expensive than Singapore. A 60sqm HDB cost about $250,000-$350,000 but in Hong Kong, Government housing cost USD$750,000-850,000 for 60sqm. Even food in HK cost 20% more.

see a doctor in sg for $20? government polyclinics consultation is $56 (before subisidies) w/o treatment or medicine, government big hospital consultation is $95 to $120 w/o treatment or medicine ! in polyclinics, many doctors despise 'poor' patients and after patient waiting 3hours they can see your conditions in --- just 5second, 3minute!

As a local , I would say that everything is cheap except for things the government want to control , for examples.. house , car etc due to lack of space in Singapore , alcohol , cigarette etc due to unhealthy lifestyle. Generally if you eat two meals of McDonald per day = $18 x 30 $540 only per month. The only problem for foreigners is that your rental will cost more then food and travel.

The only people complaining about "high costs" are those citizens who are average or mediocre in their work skills and abilities. Yet they are pursuing expensive lifestyle. Singapore daily living costs are very low. It is lifestyle costs which are very high, especially if one is pursuing western influenced lifestyle choice of clubbing, coffee boutiques, gourmet imported food, prime area condos, luxury clothes and cars, annually holidays on cruises and overseas, uncontrolled online shopping. One other thing is also to beware of those citizens who are uninformed and uneducated but very negative, arrogant and hateful of foreigners.
