Living as Salt of the Earth

Being salt of the earth requires little sacrifices when times are tough. Father Mark-Mary gives an examples: When you’re having a tough day and you make yourself a cup of coffee, and when a friend walks in you give him that cup of coffee.
As Father describes here, this little act of charity could begin a ripple effect that inspires charity in others. Let’s be the salt that does little acts with great love, because there’s no limit to the positive impact those acts may have.

This story convicted me. This morning, Friday, before I got out of bed I thought, "What am I going to give up today? Should I fast? Nah, I don't feel up to that. Coffee...nah, not this morning...." And I went further down the line until I landed on giving up something whose difficulty matched the amount of effort I was willing to exert. But your brother gave up THE thing that was going to make his morning.

We have no idea what just being nice to someone can mean to them... I had an experience when I was working where a woman came in to open a safe deposit box in our branch because her bank had stairs and she was having a serious operation and couldn't manage stairs and we didn't. Their was a rule that you needed to have an account to open a box but when the banker told me the story and we talked to her I waived it. During the conversation she told us she was scared and didn't have any family and few friends. Both my banker and I talked to her for awhile and told us we would be praying for her and her recovery. About a year later, she came into me and was so emotional..she said that knowing we were praying for her helped her through the operation and her recovery. I honestly didn't realize how that brief conversation and promise of prayer would affect someone!! I thank God that He put us in a situation that helped her...it taught me to be open to be more open to opportunities to be supportive and kind....We may never have the opportunity for someone to come back and tell us but it is hearting to know that we can make a small difference in someone's life. I HAVE BEEN SO WORRIED BECAUSE MY DAYS GOT cut at work, and I try so hard and really give it my everything but my management thinks am just flaky but it's because I have a chronic illness, and am dyslexic but I can't tell them, cuz it's so personal, But ur message and your love, made me feel like am putting all my trust in Jesus and our blessed Mother, because I truly can't do it on my own, and am so grateful to God and his mercy on me a sinner, LOVE you guys! It was a beautiful day. I was there to watch the ordination. Father Louis Masi was ordained that day. I knew him from St Joseph st Thomas parish in Staten Island. Very Holy and blessed event.
