The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza presented an interview with Paul Bentley as a Living History education program for three school groups. Bentley speaks about his role as Chief Polygraph Examiner with the Dallas Police Department in 1963, and his involvement in the arrest of Lee Harvey Oswald at the Texas Theatre.
The presentation took place at the Museum on May 16, 2008, and was moderated by Museum Associate Curator Stephen Fagin. To see related films, photos, documents and oral histories from The Sixth Floor Museum's collection, visit our online collections database (emuseum.jfk.org). Or make a research appointment to explore the books, DVDs and other materials available in the Museum's Reading Room (www.jfk.org/go/reading-room).
Paul Bentley passed away on July 21, 2008, just two months after this program was recorded.

I've heard multiple sources report that Oswald leaned on the passenger side window "seal" of Tippits patrol car and here Mr. Bentley describes his friend Pete Barnes printing the car and specifically the window seal but I haven't found any info on whether confirmed Oswald prints were actually found or allegedly found on Tippits patrol car?

It was someone who went by the name of Willie Barnes who told the Warren Commission that he had printed Tippit's car notwithstanding that a Pete or Peter Barnes has also been heard of in the WC testimony. That one was heard of from some Charles Dhority and all of these Warren Commission talkers are indexed at the mcadams website. All that they said over there is right there for the asking.

@@aaronpaterson1615 He was saying it was himself who went into the balcony, it is all BS, no one would enter a theater and go up stairs if a suspect had a shotgun. I don't think there were two Bentley;s that day there. The info on how Paul Bentley and the man later handcuffed to Oswald, LT.. L. C. Graves was his Bro in law is in Bentley's NYT obituary. I have it saved, yet don;t have the link, should be up, archived by NYT from like 2008 when he died. And a vid here on YT with officer M Nick Mcdonald is where he personally relates how Tippit lived just a few houses down from him in Oak Hill, adjacent to Oak Cliff. And then how did Bentley enter balcony and then immediately see those 6 or 7 were not the suspect?? Becuz they knew who their patsy already was

Notice in the photo where Bentley helps escort Oswald to the patrol car, he presses his head right against Oswald's once he sees the photographers, thinking he'll be on the front page. Also, Bentley is repeating second-hand misinformation when he says that the sun came out at Love Field and JFK ordered the bubble top removed from the limo. There is no photographic evidence for this last minute change; the convertible was prepped and waiting, and if the top had been on it wouldn't have been delayed for any alterations.

One thing about these old timers is when they tell their stories don't expect all of it to be truthful. If you've ever been clocked in the eye you will know it puffs up. It's called an "impact" hit. I doubt very seriously that diving by someone scraping them would cause that. But of course DPD wouldn't admit to giving anyone a shiner. Especially in that era! But throughout these oral history videos they all stick together with the same objective. Oswald, Oswald, Oswald. Everything else doesn't matter and bologna..So right from the beginning of most of these you can tell what the answer will be when Stephan gives the final question. Oswald, Oswald, Oswald. Period!

Wait just a darn minute. I saw an interview the day after where one of the arresting officers said he hit Oswald back after he hit MacDonald in the face (cops don't take very kindly to a brother officer being struck). Also tightening the handcuffs after a suspect said they were too tight is the kind of behavior that gave the Dallas PD a bad reputation. Most people have been led to believe they still act this way and I'm sure there are many that do, but still....people get bad reps for a reason. Years ago I knew someone who was belligerent and combative with the cops (DUI) and that person was black and blue all over the day after, but they admitted to me that they deserved it.

Just because he said he deserved doesn't make it right or true. My parents beat me a lot growing up. At the time one of the ways i tried to cope to the beatings was telling myself i deserved them. That was b.s. looking back there was no way I deserved getting punched in the face & whipped with a belt buckle. Most of the time they had no reason to punish me at all. In 1963 dallas pd was the most corrupt agency in the country. They had fix it teams that planted evidence during investigations. The DA had almost all of his felony convictions reversed because he was dirty as well. Even the 6th floor museum is nothing more than an extension of the wc

Absolute garbage which the 6th Floor Museum should be ashamed to have produced. 1. Bentley claimed at the time that HE jammed the gun to stop it firing. McDonald claimed it was himself who did that. Which tells you how much trouble they had getting their stories straight. For anyone who has ever jammed a digit, it is not something you forget OR imagine. 2. His claim that Oswald had multiple aliases in his wallet in the squad car is not confirmed by a single first day report by ANY of the arresting officers - including Bentley. 3. His claim that the police did not know this was the same suspect (patsy) as in the JFK assassination is also palpably false. Unfortunately for the police, they had let it slip to reporter Vic Robertson - which Robertson testified was the very reason he high-tailed it to the theater. Mr. GRIFFIN. At the time you opened up the curtains and looked out, did you have any idea that this might be the man who would be accused of shooting the President? Mr. ROBERTSON. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have been there. 4. His claim that while taking Oswald in, they received a call asking who the suspect was, and that upon learning that it was Oswald, they were told try bring him straight to Fritz as we was the suspect on Kennedy is also palpably false. Fritz himself testified that he did not know it was the same person until AFTER Oswald was brought in. He himself was not there at that time, arriving soon after. If this is for the sake of historians in 100 years time, God help us all. You, Mr. Fagin have the power to get this right. Instead you opt to continue the cover-up. First question I would have put to Bentley -- how many innocent people were sent to prison during the reigns of Fritz, Decker and Wade? Hint: some stats (incomplete) are available through the Innocence Project. The numbers are not pretty. In fact, they are worse for Dallas County than for some entire states. I cannot find the words to explain the depth of my disgust at the pretense and falsity involved in these interviews.

# 4 is a new twist on an older Bentley tale that instead the radio told them the assassin suspect was LHO, now he switched it, just like his and McDonalds shifting thumb- finger or hand story. Mack cleared it all up for us in a HC show, he said McDonald held the revolver, thus preventing it from spinning. and firing. But in a WFAA TV interview the next day after, McDonald said it misfired. l,ol. Do not you just love theater?? As for #2 Bentley said he had ID for LHO and Credit cards but no Hidell mentioned, then comes later on the mail order and ID in that name, which Jim DiEugenio believes were faked, sure looks like the first reports corroborate the ID was added later on. Was it real and found at the Paines house, who knows, a commenter on another clip said he had one and that he could see things wrong with the Hidell card.
