The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza presented an interview between Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Bob Jackson and Associate Curator Stephen Fagin. Jackson worked for the Dallas Times Herald and captured the iconic image of Lee Harvey Oswald being shot by Jack Ruby in the basement of Dallas Police Headquarters on November 24, 1963.
This presentation was arranged for students in Education in Action's Lone Star Leadership Academy Camp program during the exhibit, A Photographer's Story: Bob Jackson and the Kennedy Assassination. To see related films, photos, documents and oral histories from The Sixth Floor Museum's collection, visit our online collections database (emuseum.jfk.org). This guy was truly a professional...notice how controlled his speech pattern is, how he matter of factly told his story...no embellishment, just the facts....we need to get back to this way of presenting the news. The unadorned truth is so imp;ortant, but these days seems so hard to find...Mr. Jackson should be a role model for his profession--and maybe for all of us!

Early in this interview Bob Jackson mentions photographing Sam Rayburn's funeral in 1961, in Bonham, Tx. I was at Sam's funeral, at the graveside. Bob Jackson took a picture of the President walking up to the tent at the cemetery. The next morning, we saw that picture and my brother and I were in the photograph. It was in the Dallas Times Herald the morning of Nov. 19, 1961. While we were at the Bonham cemetery, my dad took lots of movie film while we were at the cemetery. We got some great video of the President that day plus the limousine and even got pictures of the helicopters that brought the President to Bonham from Perrin AFB in Sherman, Tx.

This guy had ice flowing in his veins, to take such a photo, when others were beginning to react in such a startled fashion..He deserved that Pulitzer!...I wonder how much money he received...nowadays, people get lets of money, like hundreds of thousands...I would bet, back then, it might be more like 10-20 thousand bucks.

Interesting interview. I visited Dealy Plaza recently. I was amazed on how small the area was. I do have a question, there were three black men on the 5th floor, who were the closest to the actual gunshots. How come we hear very little about them or from them.
@easyabc1404
@easyabc1404 Год назад
Because at that time in 1963 they were black... And today they are probably dead... Buell Frazier (Oswald buddy and car lift) was 19 and he is 80 today. If the black men were 25 then...

I knew before he even spoke a word, what his opinion would be. Believe the Warren Report. How these fellows from the press can 100% of the time stick with that belief after all these years, I'll never know. Never the less, it is inspiring to see the person who took that photo of Ruby shooting Oswald. Impressive.

First, i'm sure there was two shooters. So many witnesses said : We heard three shots. Bang, a pause and Bang Bang. Which is VERY relevant for the first shot being fired, then reloading and aiming (second shot and second Bang) and the third shot (Bang) closer to the second one so no time to reload and re-aim correctly. That's speaks for itself isn't it? Bang... Bang Bang! And with Oswald out of the picture on the sixth floor but hired pros, that put two men up there. One shooter and one watcher-helper blocking the door if somebody wanted to watch the parade from the sixth floor or ''clearing'' the way while escaping that floor. Somebody did escape that floor that day... Ok. Here we have that man (the photographer) saying he saw two men on the sixth floor and a rifle, he heard three shots, Bang, a pause and Bang Bang. But at the end that mister is telling us that he is sure that Oswald acted alone!!!! That contradicts everything he just said before! But it is well known that The Sixth Museum Floor are ALLLLLLL PRO Oswald alone like the government and the Warren Commission! Just watch that interview carefully again...

He was there a long time before Ruby and it wasn't really packed so it would be interesting to know if he with his photographer's attentiveness noticed Ruby come in. Also, speaking of Beers, his photo shows Leavelle not reacting yet, although he'd seen the gun at Ruby's side out of the corner of his eye an instant before
@easyabc1404
@easyabc1404 Год назад
Levealle is a liar telling he saw Ruby's gun on his side and tried to push Oswald behind him. If you look at the tv video, you'll see that Levealle was looking at the opposite of Ruby and never pushed Oswald behind. There is another and better view of this filmed by another camera (16mm silent available here on RU-vid) from a different angle and you clearly see Levealle looking the other way of Ruby until Ruby was shooting. RIP mister Levealle the liar. Anyway, alllllllll american cops are liars...

The camera had no film and at that moment the shooting began, the photographer lost what could have been the photos of the century: Lee Harvey Oswald shooting from the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository That's the worst thing that can happen to a photographer, not having film in the camera when you need it most! If the photographer saw the rifle, why didn't he immediately shout to the secret service agents and police who were there and warn them about it? (do you remember the famous photo where Martin Luther King's companions immediately point out where the shots came from?) The photographer also had to jump out of the car and immediately go to the door of the building, which was more important than going to the caravan
@thomasrastocky3871

Difficult to understand why he did not jump out of the vehicle and tell law-enforcement he saw a rifle pointing out of a window near the top of the building.

Conjecture and the power of suggestion. If Oswald was that slow to pull the rifle back into the window, how did he make it downstairs to the second floor after wiping the gun of finger prints and hiding it? 90 seconds.

@@patricianadeau8780 Where in the talk did you hear Oswald was “slow” in pulling back the gun? He didn’t wipe the fingerprints. His palm print was on the stock and his fingerprints were found on the trigger guard by NYC police fingerprint expert Vincent Scalise in 1993.

He saw the rifle but not the two men hanging out the window. He's a reporter he shud have an eye for detail. That's how he does his job. I saw a video the person said they saw a man wearing a red shirt in the 6 th floor window. 3 shots fired, well again a lady in a video said one shot hit the curb and of course the nurses are told to leave the hospital by secret service men ,they saw the bullet hole in the car windshield . Then a man working at the Ford auto repair said he was instructed to replace the windshield. Our president was just shot and they allow traffic to drive through the crime scene. People were everywhere and Oswald left the building. Everyone is taught the three bullet even though police motorcycles were backfiring. The area has structures that sound echo back and forth. But the three bullet statements are definitely firm in everyone's story. This is rehearsed dialog. The independent interviews are more honest. Some said shots came from different areas, some say they heard one from Texas book deposit and two elsewhere. But the interviews for the museum are constantly from that building. Sorry but I'm not falling for it.
@donbartels153

Not enough is said about the bullet hole in the windshield. It's my belief that the shot that went through the windshield was the first shot that hit JFK. That is when you see him lifting his hands up to his throat. The Doctors at Parkland thought the neck wound was an entrance wound.

@curbozerboomer1773
@curbozerboomer1773 2 года назад
You must remember...those Parkland doctors were not there to conduct any kind of forensic exam...they were there only to try and save JFKs life. A few of the doctors did get a quick view of the nasty head wound, and mistakenly felt that wound was towards the back of his head...the official x-rays and photos taken at Bethesda dispell those observations. I do think this is an area of consternation...but it is not even close to likely that the autopsy doctors and witnesses, plus all of the ensuing forensic panels of doctors, would be lying about what they see...the Kennedy family have those nasty photos locked away now, although copies somehow got out quite a few years ago...none of the leaked photos show his head being blown out in the back, even though Dr. Kemp Clark, a neurologist at Parkland, signed the death certificate, stating that the fatal head wound was towards the back of the head!...This bothers me...Clark stuck with his observations when questioned by the Warren commission in 1964...and then kept quiet about it for the rest of his life...it looks like he may have simply made a poor judgment when it came to the head wound....Even the pathologists at Bethesda made a couple of errors in their final report,,.and Dr. Humes, when challenged about his one big error--stating that the fatal bullet entered much lower on the back of JFKs skull than it actually did--did tacitly admit, under questioning in 1978, that he could not explain why he made such an error.

Stop, Stop, Stop, you are ridiculous. The traffic was blocked on Elm street to let the parade go. After the parade is gone, the officer (s) blocking the traffic let the cars moving. They didn't know IN ADVANCE that would be shots fired!!! And the cops blocking the cars on Elm after the shots left their position to see what's happening! The parade was over so the cars moved on Elm street!

But you young punk generation i know everything but you know NOTHING at all, you can't imagine that he had only 36 shots in one roll, had to rewind the roll, put the film in an envelope and put another film in place in the camera. I read the Warren Report about the assassination. I've read a slew of books since 1964. In my opinion, the only people who had credible testimonies are the ones in the presidential limo, the secret service guys in the follow-up car and the three men on the 5th floor of the school book depository. Most heard three shots. Most reacted to shots from behind. I wasn't convinced about anything until I went to Dealy Plaza and saw the layout.

@@stevenlindsay7346 And your conclusion is what? Oswald acting alone risking to be disturbed on the sixth floor all by himself before or while shooting, making all the suspicion on him by leaving the place and going to the movies and by the way taking opposite streets and meeting the most luckiest cop in town discovering the assassin and wanted to arrest him by himself not asking for back up even not telling anything on the radio and without his gun drawn? And moreover a gentleman killed Oswald to prevent mrs. Kennedy to testify to a trial? Or that Oswald was only a part of the scheme, they promised him a trip to Cuba but something went wrong at the rendezvous (the theater) and he was killed to be silenced. Your on one side or the other... And if the 26 volumes of the Warren Commission is your Bible, do not reply, useless...
