This cool little NYC home has a balcony with a crazy street facing view thats so hard to get when looking for affordable apartments in the Manhattan apartment scene! Would you live in a place like this? The view is so cool.

I love watching these. They're pretty comparable to the apartments in Sydney Australia price wise too. Only difference is most of the expensive apartments are close to or have water views...that's really what you're paying for. On the rooftop you build your furniture on it. Just get the boxes up there.

No. No. And, no! The first unit at $7500/month (where it seemed as if everything was custom made) was just too compact. The designer met the assignment, though. You might not be able to move around comfortably but you'll have everything you need. The second unit at $5500/month (on the fourth floor) is almost just as compact. Those were closets? If you place just 2-3 winter coats in any one of them, you will have used up all your closet space. The third unit at $5500/month... Now, who will really make use of that hatch contraption and that ladder? How do you get yourself and anything up and down on that deck without risking injury? All the "kitchens" rather "snack areas" seemed as if they were nothing more than an afterthought after renovation. While all 3 units "looked" nice, real-life livability would be a whole other issue.

@MamaCarola1

That used to be the case back in the day (and there are certain buildings where that still applies) but in general the UES is seen as 'not cool' compared to the Village, SoHo, Tribeca, etc. which are now, on average, more expensive.

That snowman was certainly getting his jollies! Too funny. 😜 Odd apartments, but it seems that Alex always has odd apartments to show. I'd like to know when beverage coolers became a "must have" in apartments. I'd rather have a small cupboard to store muffin tins and baking trays instead of a cooler; doesn't the fridge do the same thing? I still like being a voyeur because I feel less critical about my small one bedroom. I now know that it's really not small, I've just collected too many big pieces of furniture since I moved here 7 years ago. Cash, I'd like to know if you found out who was doing their wash; that was odd. 🤔

For those with issues about price and sizes, don't go to Hong Kong or Tokyo to live. It's not common for people to even come and visit due to apartment sizes. That's why they have so many restaurants and open markets as that's where people go to hang out. Some of these places in Hong Kong would have multiple "cage apartments" inside them, and by cage, they mean large dog crates. But as real estate agents say, location location location and that is key to these prices. It's also normal to have multiple tenants in most of these places. Cash shows us as that's how people do it till they realize it's cheaper to live in another Boro or leave NYC because they failed at their dreams.

"A weird neighbor who likes to feed birds." That would be me. lol And I'm not weird, maybe a little eccentric and unique but definitely not weird:-) What baffles me is why people would want to share a place with 5 roommates? Wouldn't it make more sense to find a smaller place for less money than have to deal with the drama and idiosyncrasies of five different people? It's like who gets to decide how to decorate the living room? What if you are neat and the others are messy. The refrigerator would be a nightmare! Five different people stuffing it and trying to share? I don't care how great they get along it would turn into chaos or so it would seem, compounded by visitors, friends, and friends of friends. I need a vacation just thinking about it. lol

Apartment one has several small, odd rooms, and it has laundry and outdoor space, so maybe five people could share the place to make it affordable. But I won't be one of them. The second apartment is four floors up, and one of the bedrooms is a sectioned off part of the otherwise windowless living room. The vampire bedroom may or may not have a legal egress window. The last one also has a windowless living space and a very questionable access to the roof deck. It's about a fifth-floor walkup but it does have laundry. I suppose any of these is a prospect for people who can deal with sharing living, kitchen and bathroom spaces.

I’d be so unhappy to live in NYC. I don’t want roommates and nothing there is in my budget. I own my home and my mortgage is a comfortable 1600/month. 4 beds 3 baths on almost an acre. Clean air. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I see the stars at night. The sky is unobstructed. Outdoor lighting is sparse here. Lovely Pond water view. I just do not understand why humans would be willing to live in that city and pay those prices to live like a sardine in a can. Fine to visit NYC… but never would I ever live there.

First off, I don't care what anybody says: there's no other City on this planet like New York City. It's the first of his kind and the only one of its kind! Now, there are people who would live in a matchbox, if they could in order to live in New York City. 🤣 Is that real! I lived in New York City all my life... Born and raised here since the 70's. I was part of the hip-hop culture from it's inception in the Bronx and Harlem. And I've hob-nobbed with punk rockers in the East village....and some celebrities throughout. I've been around many many native New Yorkers and non-native alike. Usually, from my observation, when non-native New Yorkers move here, it's usually for financial success, a particular college / University in New York they love, or they want to get away from a rural /country lifestyle. (By the way, we do have country living in Greater "upstate" New York, not connected with the 5 boros) So if you're a driven person or if you want to live a more colorful, social lifestyle, you'll deal with an apartment that's very tiny. I have friends who own and rent some. So, If you're in NYC neighborhood that is super cool; (and there are many of them throughout all the boros), has a lot of nice restaurants and bars and has easy access to stores, landmarks and events you really like, and you can afford it, then it's worth it for you! 😊 Most native New Yorkers don't visit landmarks, we're part of the culture, so we don't bother with those things much, but they are fun to do from time to time. But I live upstate away from all of that now, but tiny apartments for a new comer, trying to get their feet wet in the Big Apple, it can be lots of fun for you! 😊😊

Although the rock walls in the basement were interesting those rooms have no doors for privacy & the outdoor area wasn't worth it. Thus, my comment that pretty much everything in that unit appeared as if it was custom made for the space.
