So I had to look this place up, I used to live in that area. A guy named Charles Fitzgerald owned that building (don't know if he still does, he may have passed away by now. He would be about 88) But back in the 90s he had a huge store called Bowl and Board that sold all hand made wood items. Later he made his store smaller and called it In the woods and rented the other half of it to the Japanese restaurant. The article I just skimmed said he was closing his store in 2005. At that time he still owned this building but lived in another he owned across the street. He wanted to rent out his remaining small store and buy a land in Maine. He could make over 3 times in rent than what his little wood store was bringing in. Anyway I would assume he is responsible for this beautiful and huge wood filled cabin apartment. He would have created this between 1959 and 2005. I believe he last used it as storage and office space. Fun fact he rented his original store for $28 a month before he bought the building. Edit: I just noticed Valentinas interesting comment on more of the history of this building. Very cool.

I think that's seriously 1 of the most unique places we've seen so far. Definitely NOT cookie cutter. $15K tho? Yes it's big but...& you have to buy your own washer & dryer? I love the fireplaces but it's almost too much with all the wood & makes it look very dark. I know someone who will love the wood floors!!

It's really different and huge but it's only has two bedrooms. The price is outrageous. It probably cost a fortune to heat up and in the summer it cost a lot to cool down. It's not 15,000! a month caliber.
@kbparlin2736
@kbparlin2736 Год назад
Omg, you’re absolutely right and imagine the cost! It’s honestly really outdated when it comes to appliances, bathroom fixtures and tub and don’t get me started on the dishwasher from 1998 🙄 It’s time to update it all! The wood they have throughout the place isn’t even tongue and groove. I wouldn’t pay $15k. Sorry.

The rustic vibe doesn't look like it's worth $15k. Despite big windows, the place is gloomy. $15k gets a lot of space in luxury buildings. At this price point, it's a hard pass for almost everyone.
@Patricia-vv8yt
@Patricia-vv8yt Год назад
I would still pit a dining table by the kitchen. It would be great to😅 host dinner parties, have game night, wrap gifts, holiday dinners, etc. I would use some of the space as a home office. The yard needs some ean up work with the plants, and more furniture. A pack on a stand, some big lounge chairs, a fire pit, and a nice grill. I would also put some kind of canapy for privacy and protection from the sun. Some of the plants would have to go. An outdoor swing would be nice too.
@MandyX19
@MandyX19 Год назад
I love the kitchen!! That counter is amazing! I would redo the appliances and add pendants lights above the counter. I would most definitely do a dining room table it’s plenty big enough. All of the wood is rustic and beautiful.. I would have to try to figure out a different area or workaround for the washer and dryer.. it’s a beautiful place, but 2 bedroom 1 bath for $15k/month is super expensive..But welcome to the NYC! ❤ Thanks Cash still a great listing for those who could afford it! :)

Right now it’s just a huge dank, dark overpriced hole. And the stairs aren’t for me or a lot of people out there. My favorite room was the smaller bedroom pretty much. @@aprilshorty4094 I think it looks great, but as to its practicality.......Well back some 24 years ago, I lived in a farmworkers cottage in Cambridgeshire UK. Quite unusual for an apartment in Manhattan. Seems cozy looking but in reality I bet you those stone walls everywhere probably makes it feel very dank and cold. Not quite sure how any heating would be sufficient for that and I don't think I would like to smell the creosote that's all collected around the fireplace walls. Other than that it's really spacious in unique and I would really like something like that.
