Traveling through Oregon, I had to stop by Bruce's incredible airplane home in the woods. Not too far from Portland Oregon, this Boeing 727 sits deep in the Oregon forest and is amazing to experience in real life.

I used to work on those things, lol. Try being up on top of the T tail, or better yet- ABOVE it in a swaying cherry picker that's slick with deicer fluid in a raging blizzard, trying to hose this thing down and deice it prior to departure. It's an interesting project, he's a generous dude to allow strangers into his unique home.

I was a teen when i got to help recieve and defuel this aircraft on the ramp in Hillsboro... I still remember the super low flyby the crew did prior to landing. Bunch of us at the FBO ran out wave our arms thinking he forgot to drop the gear... next thing we know the JT8s are screaming and the plane roared away from us... A short time later the crew lands perfectly... both mains softly touch the ground at the same time, then some aero braking before laying on the reverse thrust. I have some VHS of it somewhere. Its good to see Bruce is alive and well... I haven't been the best in keeping contact with him.

Not only an impressive home, but the property it’s on looks very beautiful, and anyone would be fortunate to have it. An interesting side-note is that from living in it, Bruce has probably spent more time in the 727 than anyone, be they pilot, passenger, mechanic or engineer.

WOW! What an incredible video! I'm 56, and my father used to take us to his native Greece via the now defunkt Olympic Airways back in the late 60's and 70's, but on 707's and 747's. We flew out of JFK in NYC to Athens and back. It's mind blowing to think how Bruce got such a large jetliner to sit in woods in Oregon! It must have been no small feat!

6:47 "The coolest HOUSE I've ever seen in my life..." This is not a house, really. This is a guy that pulled out just enough of the seats and other equipment to shove in a few things like a bed, sink, half-baked shower, etc. His mounting of the plane is semi-permanent, but sketchy. It is creative to live in a plane, but let's be real. He's living in a plane. He didn't do much to make it a HOUSE, although it may be his home. He could have incorporated elements of the interior and technology into an ass-kicking house. Instead, he ripped out some junk and moved his stuff into it. It looks almost like just camping in the shell. There are other airplane homes out there that have been customized to make them much more like living in a home rather than camping in a shell. He could have used seats for sofas by welding them together and re-mounting them into a nice configuration in a living room-ish area. He could have used those same seats as individual chairs around a dining table made from some other parts of the plane, etc. I can see where a lot of the tech would still serve a function in places, like the lighting, AC, etc. once converted over to alternately generated power. However, he could have ripped out a lot of that stuff and recycled or re-purposed it rather than living among the detritus left from the old plane. There's nothing cozy, or even minimalist about it. It is more like squatting, even though he paid a fortune for it and went to all of the trouble to drag it piece by piece into the woods! So that's a "like" for thinking a LITTLE outside of the box, but a big "head scratch" for why you'd go to all of that expense and trouble and have it still look like this 17 years later!

@Just J I see and understand the points you are making. I don't think he did this to make a good investment decision, I'm sure he knows it's more a personal thing. Yes, I agree, when he leaves the Earth, it may be something to deal with, but he may already have decisions made beforehand, but if not, I guess you could always sell it for scrap metal. Some people would be will to help piece it out too. It does sound daunting, but like anything else, if I had to deal with it, I'd just do what I needed and be done with it.

""Have you ever walked on a wing before?" As a matter of fact....lol... my husband is a senior engineer in stress liaison and crawls IN them all the time! I MUST show this video to him - he's often talked about going to see this, especially since we aren't that far away. I admire you for climbing all over .....I HATE heights. Great video.

I had heard of this several years ago. Two things: I would have thought the owner would have tricked-out the interior more, made it more like a real home, but it’s nice that he had the respect to leave a lot of the original electronics in-place. If it’s still in there, the auto-pilot circuitry was designed by my late uncle! 🙂 Worked as an electrical engineer at Sperry (Boeing subcontracted the auto-pilot out to them). I am old enough that I’ve actually flown in a 727 - great aircraft, very powerful and stable in flight! (Although obviously this one has touched-down for the last time)

What a really cool and nice guy to allow visitors into his home :) Although I don't think it's a one-of-a-kind. If memory serves me correct, I saw another clip that mentioned a similar home/plane somewhere in South America. There were a lot more renovations though to the point where it actually looked like an actual person's home inside.

Initially, thought, this is impressive and but quickly deflated. What a waste of an incredible opportunity. Nothing has been done to it. I would have gutted this 17 year ago. A complete waste of 1100 square feet livable space.

I agree Tupac, he did with it what he wanted, He obviously had some money laying around if he can fork over that kind of money for this project. Not everyone has the same idea of what a 'normal' home should look like. To this guy, this is a normal home. People live in tents, igloos, huts, etc. Let's face it, we see people who lives in multi million dollar homes who are completely miserable.

That is so cool! I think that's really awesome of him to be so willing to show people his house and let strangers climb all on his home if they email him. Sounds like a fun guy.. And as for all the haters taking trash about what he got for his $210k, he got what he wanted: he doesn't WANT a container house or a $210k 3br/1.5ba suburbs house.. He wants to live in an airplane! And when you think about it, to get a 737 around the world and converted into a home in the Oregon woods, $210k to do all that is a bargain!

I'm not going to criticize this guy for what he has or hasn't done over the course of time living there but I gotta say it looks like it be very cold during winter. I'm curious as to how things are kept warm during cold months and how he has water plumbed in as well as sewerage (if any) And electricity.I would imagine he could make great space if he got rid of those chairs. People would pay big money for those in certain places like restaraunts with movie theatres inside them as well as people with man caves and gaming rooms.

It’d be neat to live in a plane (for a year) in the woods but not that plane. Hard to believe he paid that much and the interior is in that condition.

If that was my plane i would of had one of the wings turned into a skate/bike ramp the other wing swings and stuff for my children the tail would be the roof top chill spot man there are so many things you could do with this yet 20 years later still chairs stacked to the side of the plane!!! love it but gutted

zhyulysses1 no it’s a Boeing 727. They look similar except for the tail. The tail on the Lockheed has its wings at the base. This Boeing has them at the top of the tail.

That particular plane has an interesting story. Aristotle Onassis founded Olympic Airways and when he passed away in 1975 that same plane was used to transport his body back to Greece. Jackie O was aboard the plane during that flight.

(smiling) Who would have guessed an airplane house in the woods, another great video, thank you. One thing I sooooo appreciate is you move the camera slowly so we can captures (see) the details. Others who do videos move the camera so fast we can't see any details, much less the larger subjects and get dizzy in the first minute. This comment was edited to add this info, since I just got dizzy on another persons video and thought it important to speak of my appreciation for your videos.
