I lived in Ankeny for one year in 1980 and a year and a half in Windsor Heights 1981 and 1982.From 10 to almost 14 years of old. They were a complete culture shock for me.I moved there from the Bronx,NewYork.I now live in Westfield, NJ.I have not been back to Iowa in almost 42 years.
I'm moving to Stuart Iowa from north Texas where it's nothing but heat after 40+ yrs of heat I'm ready for all four seasons and I hear that's a 35 minute drive to Des Moines
Yes the prices in Ankeny are rising faster than many other areas around the state. But still very easy to find 350K Single family new build or 250K new built townhome. OR lower prices on resale.
I work at costco and found they have a posting for a new building coming to Ankeny and I am hoping to get back to my Iowa family roots (grandparents were from Newton)
Could you do one on Spencer? I was born there and visited in 2015. Have a picture of me in front of the Spencer County courthouse with the big clock when i was in a stroller. My aunt lived in Milford . We had friends in Arnold's park where my gret uncle was caretaker of the park monuments and cabin.
Ankeny is vary small just a few big stores and not much to do. I would recommend west des moines or urbandale IA. I'm actually moving back this spring. Iowa is the friendliest place iv ever been to
Ankeny definitely has grown the last 2 years, you may still need to drive to West Des Moines or Urbandale to find certain attractions, but I would argue, Ankeny's attractions are near comparable to attractions throughout the city.
Hi Jorge! We appreciate that! So far, being new to Ankeny, what do you LOVE about the area, and have you found any lesser-known areas to share with others on this channel?
@@jlsantiagojr That is so true, driving around Ankeny is pretty simple, couple main roads to jump on and you can get anywhere! Except the bit of consturction on1st stree right now, which is kind of a pain, but it looks like they are doing some great things with that area!
@@Livingindesmoines I'll say my favorite thing to do is going up in the gym for fun playing sports and working out. I also shop in this city here and there at Menards and Automotive stores, and visiting for some cars and coffee. 😊
My brother and sis in law moved there in 2016. My wife and I are driving 2k round trip next week to visit for the first time. We are looking for a potential area to move. Maybe it will be right for us.
Love to hear this! Many folks will move here once they know someone really close to them that already lives here and loves it! If you want to see inside any houses next week (even if you are not buying until you move here) send me an email, lets make it happen!
Hi Sonny, if you mean, the Masonry business, it is booming along with all other types of construction and rehab skill sets! If that is your skillset you'll be able to fin something you really enjoy in the Des Moines metro!
Hey, thanks so much for this video! My wife is from Iowa and we are looking to make the move and I'm researching different areas. Right now it is between Iowa City and a Des Moines suburb. She specifically mentioned Ankeny as a nice place. We're pretty progressive, don't have children, but love good food and being outdoors. We want access to amenities, but don't need to be right in the heart of it. I have been to Iowa twice and the people are wonderful, so the prospect is pretty exciting!
Our pleasure making these videos! Ankeny and Iowa City are two very different vibes! Iowa City is definitely going to be your "standard" college city feel during the school year also with a strong dose of trendy. Ankeny has a TON of new restaurants popping up. One, when you go is called Trailside tap (its uptown Ankeny) and the foot meets my wife's gluten free requirement AND is delicious! What area of Montana are you moving from?
@@Livingindesmoines Good to know, thanks! We're currently in Billings, which is currently the #1 housing market in the country. It's insane and, unfortunately, wages have not kept up with skyrocketing property values. Bozeman's even worse. Median home price is almost 800k! It's pretty bad.
@@brennanbourne Don't bring your Billings attitude here when you come here. You left for a reason. You're one of the reasons why the prices are so high because you transplants keep moving and destroying areas and then moving to the next.
@@patriot-wf1er What is the point of your question? Do you actually care enough to try and understand what someone else believes politically or are you just trying to be an a$$hole?
Your videos will be lot better if you show less of face and more of what you are trying to show us. Constantly having your face/faces covering half of what you are trying to show people is annoying.
Glad you agreed and thanks you....Since you travel to all these great locations, people want to see the places, especially if they never have been to those places...keep up the good work@@Livingindesmoines
If you have a stupid attack and move to iowa ankeny is good place to land its quite so you have time to think about the foolish mistake you made moving to iowa.
@Livingindesmoines Ok. Bad restaurants bland food or they totally screw up simple dishes. Ugly architecture that are only built for function not to be appreciated the new condos they built downtown look more like prison blocks or penal colonies. The people are clicky and fake there's a reason the saying is " high-school never ends " in iowa. There's nothing to do except getting battered by bad weather my God I've never seen so many car wash establishment s in my life. Iowa lacks thought, imagination, class. Cool , or sexy , If you want to do anything that's challenges the mind and excites the soul you have to jump jet and leave the state. Would you like me to go on?
Yes, we are MUCH MUCH less busy than Denver, that is factual. Some might argue on the beautiful portion, as we don't have any mountains, but do have some beautiful rolling hills and bluffs to enjoy!
