Excellent film, I got a question for you, and I’m not sure if you’d like to answer it: are you able to make some local or foreign friends on your own, how easy/hard compared to England?
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
Oh it's super easy as long as both people are open minded. Some of my best friends are locals, but I do also have foreign friends. The foreigners here become friends very quickly since we all feel united in living abroad, however if you are willing to learn the Chinese culture and respect it it can be very easy to make local friends. Some foreigners don't make many local friends because they don't put in the effort to understand the cultural differences. Almost all of my friends here I have made on my own and later introduced them to Miu and they then became his friends too haha!

@@ExpatNatt I am very happy that you can integrate into life in China. I know some foreigners in China and complain to me why they can’t make local Chinese friends, but many of them have settled in China for more than five years, and their Chinese proficiency is still very poor. Can carry out the most basic communication, such as "hello" and "thank you", many people don't even want to learn Chinese
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
@@user-bv8me3sf5t I agree. My Chinese is still very poor but I am trying (yesterday I went into a hotel to ask for directions, I practiced my Chinese and tried so hard, and the man behind the front desk replied in perfect English 😂😂)

@@ExpatNatt I am really surprised by so many expat RU-vidrs in Shanghai producing fine videos. You, Melissa and Ecesis Diaries are the best which includes Ben Coleman and Tim Chambers form the UK, Part Time Travelers and Ruchi in China from India, Fun Fancie from Thailand. It is not easy to produce high quality and interesting videos. There are so many poorly produced videos from Shanghai vloggers that do not deserve attention, but not from the aforementioned.

Your dumplings look the best. On the job culture, it's not so rosy in the UK though; high earners are expected to start early and stay late, and there is an overtime dependency among the low pay ones. Love the video by the way.😊

I enjoyed the Q&As in this video-some seem random but amusing. I think the height of a person in China is more of a concern for men than for women as if their future, in terms of finding a partner, depended on it. There are always exceptions of course. I like your dumpling folding job much better because they look consistent and attractive. I have heard many good things about HSK, which I believe offers certificate upon completion for each level, if I am not mistaken.
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
Thank you, yes some of the questions were quite random and made me laugh so I decided to include them. You can take an exam at the end of HSK units if you do it through a school or want the certificates, but for me I don’t care about a formal qualification at this point, I just want to be able to communicate better in Chinese 😂 Most if the Chinese I have learned is from everyday life rather than the HSK books but they do help to reinforce certain “rules” of the language ☺️

Of course China has sick leaves, otherwise you could file a complaint to the Labor Bureau about your company
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
Yes, I meant that locals don’t have the same sick pay advantages that some foreigners are offered (reduced rate, maximum/minimum day requirements. Many companies get 5 days a year for locals). Also, most people in China have caught Covid this year and used all our sick days to Covid 😅😅 (at least that is the case where I work!) after we’ve used up these sick days it’s unpaid leave. Hope that helps to clear it up a bit, my bad!

Labour Day is only an one-day holiday by Chinese Law, hence the need of make-up days to make it a five-day holiday. Incidentally, the Labour Day holiday in the UK is also an one-day holiday. And, it is not correct to say that there is no sick pay in China. It is a socialist country! Like the rest of the world, sick pay varies from one company to another in China; some are more generous and some aren't, but the employees' right to sick pay is guaranteed by Chinese Law, albeit at a reduced rate. In the UK, companies don't have to pay sick leaves; most do, but if you work for an agency, typically for a low pay position, you may not get pay for sick leaves; you can apply for Statutory Sick Pay which only pays from the 4th day of your time off work. So if you are off sick for 3 days or less, you get nothing. It's okay, Natt, I think you simply misspoke. Still love your videos.😊
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
Yes, I find it very interesting the way they move holidays around so you have make up days. I don’t think there is a Labour day in England but we do have single day bank holidays like May Day which you only take as the one day. I can imagine the disruption it would cause in England to make up days on weekends 😅 There are also unions that locals can join in China which covers them for some sick pay rights although this isn’t an option for me at my job so I don’t know much about it. Thank you for correcting me, I was mostly trying to highlight the need for a doctors note which you don’t really need in England for one day of sick leave 😂
@PeterSzeto-es6em
@PeterSzeto-es6em Год назад
1 May is International Workers' Day which is honoured in many countries including the UK. In China it's called Labour Day. May Day in the UK, and you get one day off for it. If 1 May is not a Monday, then the first Monday in May will the Bank Holiday. Some unions or labour organisations in the UK do organise marches on May Day, although there is little media coverage nowadays. 😊
