With Georgia being a red state, how did taxes get so high? One real estate agent I follow on You Tube said the property taxes in the Savannah area are very low. Still keeping Georgia on my short list when I retire in a few years. If you think taxes are high in Georgia, check out Illinois where I have lived since 1979.
@LivingInWarnerRobins
@LivingInWarnerRobins 3 года назад
The real estate tax depends really where you’re looking at there are parts where you only pay County tax which is fine but if you get double taxed county and city then it is a little bit high but compared to the Midwest it’s still cheaper. Are you following Karin Carr :) ? They put a lot of it in the schools here in middle Georgia that’s why the school system here is so amazing.
@lauralampe1664

Thank you for the tax information. Weather (no snow), property taxes and cost of living are major factors for me. Yes, I subscribe to Karin Carr's channel. Wherever I end up moving to in a few years, I doubt if I will stay in Illinois, unless I want to live under a bridge.

Yes no snow you might see some flurries up north but it’s very rare and definitely not as cold as it gets in Illinois. Cost of living in GA is 27% below the national average .

Red states don't necessarily have low taxes, what they tend to have is low taxes for bigger businesses and wealthy individuals. They often have very regressive tax structures in which the poor and middle class are taxed at very high rates. Ex: no or low income tax, but high sales tax.

I'd say a drawback is the racism in certain areas. The KKK is active in some places and you could end up in a bad position if you're not careful. This goes out to any POC viewers always be alert especially at night!

Couldn’t agree more! And I’ve never actually seen people driving around with confederate flags on their cars and confederate flags in front of their homes so much like I have here in Georgia! We plan on leaving next year. I’m a Florida native and lived in Colorado for 3 years...there’s no place like Colorado that’s for sure! Only reason we left FL & CO is because cost of living is pretty high in both states!

Moved to Georgia from Phoenix 2 years ago. You want to talk about long hot summers, try living in an oven 9 months out of the year. Georgia weather is great. Traffic and crime can be bad but it depends on your location. But it’s a beautiful state and I have no regrets.

@normsweeney82
@normsweeney82 2 года назад
@@lexisme697 Thanks for your response and interest in Atlanta. I still stand by what I said. The negatives about living here have nothing to do with weather. It’s the rising cost of living (rents/home prices) and crime; that can give some second thoughts about making the move. We live in the far northwest suburbs so it’s not bad. As far as Phoenix, there are things we miss besides friends. The weather can be great if you don’t mind the heat and the desert is beautiful. The bad things are the relentless sun (it is so intense and brutal) and the brown cloud/smog. Both are not good for long term living and health but that’s my opinion. If you have any specific questions, let me know. Otherwise, good luck.
@LivingInWarnerRobins
@LivingInWarnerRobins 2 года назад
Well the rising cost you have that everywhere in the United States so that is not just Georgia. And compared to other states homes in Georgia is still cheaper than in most of the states. You still get more bang for your buck in Georgia.

I've lived in North Georgia all my life. The cost of homes south of the city of Atlanta is much cheaper than North of the city. You can't buy a house up here for less than $280,000.00 unless it needs a ton of work. And yes the taxes are horrible, but insects and humidity are not so bad to the north of the city. Well Atlanta traffic is horrible for sure but so is New York City and Los Angeles ! Here in middle GA it’s not that bad and in my opinion driving in Texas is still the worst 😂! When it comes to the housing market well the prices went up everywhere in the last 2 years not only in GA and compared to other states GA actually had less increase and is still way cheaper. Buying a 3,000 home on .5 acres is the Warner Robins area for an all brick pretty new home will run you between 380k-500k while the same home would cost you 800k-1.3mio in Florida or in Cali you would get that same home for around 3 mio. In Texas that same home would also run you around 800k as well as in NC and SC. Even in MO the same home would cost you around 650k !! Of course there are more expensive areas in GA specially in and around ATL but over all the GA housing market did not gain as much as in other states!

@@LivingInWarnerRobins . Yes, we drove to Texas back in January of this year. Visited Dallas, Houston and Austin. I sold my house in Kentucky and moved here back in March, bad timing on my part as I had no idea Covid was breaking out the way it did. Haven't got a chance to do much, so I don't know a whole lot about Georgia other than the weird traffic + aggressive drivers that do not follow the 3 seconds following distance when driving. Getting off I-85 and drive on the left side of the road here in Georgia (such as Jimmy Carter exit) is something I don't understand. Also, driving at 65+ mph limit on SR 316 and there are red lights also bothering me. Red lights and 65 mph should not be together for safety sake.

RACISM is real here! And get used to seeing confederate flags quite often on cars and in front of homes. The southern states are definitely more racist then other states! They win the prize on that! Not to say racism doesn’t exist elsewhere but it’s very prominent here in Georgia! Please believe me when I say this! And I’m a Florida native having lived in Colorado for 3 years...so I can definitely compare. Also, winters are NOT as mild as some may think! It can definitely get pretty cold here and winters last a good 5 months with a lot of rainy, cold GLOOMY GRAY days! Get ready to not see the sun for days on end during the winters!

Have you been to the Midwest ? Sadly every state has those issues and we should not have that issue at all in a western country that seams to be so advanced in everything.

Confederate flags do not represent racism. Do your freaking research before spewing the same rhetoric that the rest of the uninformed clueless leftist

It depends on your definition of Winter,I lived in Charlotte NC for 25 years and even there they don't get 5 months of Winter.They get more like maybe 5 days of Winter and at least 5 months of Summer!

How can you be so mean to someone who lost a lot of his sight? Isn't seeing very important? Are you glad you can see? Be a bit more gratefull for what you have instead of bringing others down for what they don't have. And be glad there are glasses so people can see. Also, be carefull. What goes around comes back around.

Thank you I appreciate it. You are absolutely right sadly I was born that way and I’m glad I’m able to wear classes to at least see. But don’t worry I have been dealing with people like that for the majority of my life and I really do not care anymore what they say about that. If you haven’t walked in those shoes you don’t even know how horrible bad eyesight is .

Not the type to fly fish a mountain stream in the middle of nowhere are you. Some people don't need loud and constant entertainment. They like to be introspective and thoughtful and often enjoy nature. Nothing wrong with enjoying what you enjoy, but it isn't for everyone. Just like fly fishing a remote mountain stream isn't for everyone. Neither is wrong and everyone wants and needs their place/space.
