Wow, living in New Zealand is like going back in time to all the old fashioned values we wish we still have. Such lovely people. Bri did the right thing getting the police to have a word with Tess. I couldn't comment on the podcast as I was watching it on my tv while getting ready for work, but I loved it, and I know this is a lot to ask but if you did an audio book of it that would be awesome! Love listening to you. Just saying this again, the views of your home.... Paradise! 🌴🌳🌻🌺🏵️🌳

Rugby is too much of a religious experience for most Kiwis. It's one thing for fans to scrap after the game down the pub, but no one wants to be tossed out of the stadium before it's over, even if they were just sitting next to the trouble makers to start with.

You guys are so funny!! Completely nuts ... in the best possible way. 😂🤣😂 When I was in London years ago I stopped in a small restaurant, somewhere between Piccadilly Circus and St. James Park, and had a scone with clotted cream and raspberry jam. After I finished I got up and left. So what? Well I left a package there with a bunch of souvenirs in it that I really wanted. About an hour "down the road" I realized what I had done. I went back all in a fluster and I barely got in the door and the clerk came up to me, greeted me by name and handed me my package. I was blown away, I'm still blown away.

Just an aside, if you're ever driving in NZ and you see warnings showing a bend and 30km/h, slow right down don't try and take it faster than 30. It'll be a hairpin or a tunnel with less than 2 lanes. Going north of NPL there are a couple of them, and the awakino gorge can be pretty unforgiving of mistakes. Mt Messenger is vastly different from the days when the rear of the bus used to hang out over the drop, but still. Not a place to get it wrong. Lastly, the coast road (very) occasionally has stock that has managed to get free. Have had the odd scare coming up over a rise and seeing a calf in the middle of the road....

Tui are known to be bold and cheeky, but you will often get different behaviour from native birds depending on where in the country you are. I remember when I was down south in a farm area, a Fantail was curious about a hat I was wearing, fluttered about in front of me for a couple of minutes, you wouldn't see that in one near a city. Also with the Police, we have the *555 system, to report bad/dangerous driving you witness. Can call them up, and if there is a cop in the area, they often will "happen" to end up sitting further down that persons route and pull them over. Also lets them build a database of bad drivers, I remember doing it for a guy following someone in front of me way to close doing Rimutaka hill, when I *555 him, they were like "yep, had reports on that car before, thanks".

Being an expatriate Kiwi now living in Edmonton, AB, Canada I also noticed in NZ the kids are lot more respectful on the buses. I could not believe it when I was in Tauranga (where my mom lives) when I took a bus and all the high school kids let the adults on first and when the bus got full they stood up when an adult got on. this would never happen in Edmonton.

hi guys just wanted to say about your daughters driving habbits ( driving too close etc ) people who do that have no idea on how much it takes to pull up a car and as you point out if your too close to the car infront and they have to brake hard then its too late to try and pull up short of them , the two second rule is for a reason ,you did the right thing about the police talking to her about it all ,you would have saved not only her life but someone elses as well ,i believe it should be part of a drivers test to watch footage of accidents of what happens if you overtake in the wrong place and if you drive too close to one another etc ,when i was at high school back in the 80s the MOT ( Ministry of Transport ,Road police etc ) had a mock up car seat with a seatbelt on a angled frame that lifted you up so high on a angle of about a 45 degree pitch ,once you where at the top it would drop and the person in the chair would speed down the ramp and come to an abrupt stop ,this was to simulate what it would feel like stopping quick at 50 kph .my sister done the same thing to her daughter ,took her to the police station and had her put in jail for a period of time ,the police abliged with her request to teach her daughter what it would be like if you carry down that road ,she was about 12yrs old at the time and it worked ,oh not only did she take her to the police station but to the shop where she stole from to apologise to them as well ,her daughter was terrified but she done it .PS : I would rather deal with the New Zealand police than the US police anytime .

Hi L & B..... Nice to see you so happy to be back in NZ. Me and my son went to see the mighty Tractorboys play Argyle a couple of months ago and you're right, there are too many British kids that are really nasty. It always surprised me when I first moved here that the British psycho is often the skinny little one in a track suit that is just mental.... like in the film Trainspotting. Brian.... I'd say you did the right thing for your daughter and Liz..... after hearing you say "rural road"... could you say "rural squirrel " for me in the next episode? Thanks in advance. Only 880 days until my daughter finishes school and I can immerse myself in NZ. BTW.? What do the yanks think rubber bullets are then!? Merry Christmas to you and yours. All the best for 2023. Kent

Very sad to hear how awful things are in the UK since we left nearly 50 years ago. No rugby hooligans here!

Those poor police would rather have a convo on the phone than be picking brain matter out of their boots later. (True story from a NZ cop). Are there pics of "the stick" BTW? So we can all admire? Also, I call the erasers now. America ruined in for me. Also, not handing in a found treasure is a social crime in NZ. I, myself have found two whole purses full of cash and cards and handed them right in. I have also dropped my wallet and within 20 mins someone turned it in to my local ASB and I got a call. NZ is great.

Not a social crime, a real crime. It is called theft by finding.
@kilgh
@kilgh Год назад
@@davidtyree1842 Yes. But in many countries it is considered socially acceptable to keep your findings. It isn't in NZ In many countries it is surprising when stuff is returned. In NZ it is surprising when it isn't.

Hearing about your brother made me feel sick. It may have been before you came to nz. My friends sister did that to her 17 year old. He was a cheeky kid with ADHD. misbehaving till he drove his parents to distravtion. His mum talked the local police into taking him into custody for the night. He was put into a van to go to prison for the night, with other criminals. Was murdered by one of them.

I came from the UK some 15 yrs ago. Looking at the back drop, they are obviously not in the Auckland suburbs. In this time, I unfortunately have witnessed the ugly side of NZ. Ranging from racism, because I am a white pom to being woken by gunshots ringing out in the night air (not hunters) and on a regular occurance, the Police Eagle helicopter, circling overhead. I know I have been turned down for jobs just because I am a pom. It maybe a much slower and happier pace of life out of the cities. But Auckland is right up there with the rest of the world. Everyone screwing each other over for a dollar. Don't come here thinking it's all a bed of roses!!!

Your both very decent people and obviously find it a delight living in NZ but when you look closely at the indigenous peoples their lives are still affected by colonisation. Five years ago The NZ government placed adverts in British papers for Probation Officers and mental health specialists to work in the NZ health system. The reason being to help in the fight against domestic violence which is the highest in the 14 OECD countries….there continues to be simmering resentment to the affects of colonisation and the arrivals of immigrants who bring their wealth with them and no knowledge of detailed history of the land. No country is perfect , it’s always what you make it…
