Will u update your Portsmouth, Va pros & cons? There's soooo much more to the city than Old Towne. Churchland, Midtown, there's a casino there now, you didn't even mention that there are homes in Old Towne that are museums you can tour, the Naval shipyard, historic homes in Parkview, City Park (which has a golf course) etc. So so much more you could've added to your video!
Well l loved your blog Sam!My only child his name is Sam!I was a Navy brat n now a proud Navy mom!I was born at the Navy Hospital there! My son n his family will be stationed in the Norfolk area soon!I may need your services to find a Granny a tiny place to buy!Go Navy!Your my good omen!God bless!Love your smarts n your humor!ox
Thanks, Nancy! if you still need help let me know! I love Portsmouth and there are some gems in the city. There are also some negatives I pointed out too, but that's the case for all areas. Please ask any questions you ever have about Portsmouth or anywhere else!

Hi so happy that I came across your video. I am soon to be a Navy nurse and deciding where to go for first assignment. This was super helpful and eased my mind about potentially moving here and made me kinda excited. thank you!
I'm so, so happy you liked it! Really appreciate the word, "classy"! I tried to give accurate perspective in an honest way, so am glad you found it respectful! I love Portsmouth and nice to hear positive response from a native! Thank you!
Nice! Location is really #1, but they really screwed Portsmouth over with the toll setup. And Portsmouth did NOTHING about it........always the victim (and i'm from there)
Palm Beaches Paul-Realtor well I can confidently say that I've never had it! Lol! Kinda want to try it now even more for the nostalgia of having thought it was my favorite beer for so long!
Realtor Kate Smith wow! Thank you!! I really appreciate that, I do try hard to make each video worth watching, I'm grateful that you took the time to watch 😃
Love the video. I grew up in Portsmouth and graduated from the old Wilson High that was on Willet Dr. There used to be a $0.25 toll on the downtown tunnel years ago.
Yes! Next to Willet Hall! I think that school was town down around 15 years ago? I believe they turned it into a middle school for a while? This is awesome nostalgia, thanks for sharing. I love Portsmouth history!!
ANDYDAVIRGO wow thank you! I've only recently starting making videos, so I'm praying that the subs will come in time! I put a lot of effort into each video so I'm happy that you find them valuable! 😃
Mascyan lmao Churchland high school is riddled by 21 year old gangbangers who can’t decide their own future. This place is a lost cause. You help one person, you gain 10 shit people. The math doesn’t add up anymore. Move the fuck away from this shit show. Fuck these hopeless people.
As always a fair assessment of Portsmouth is not explained. There is a lot more to Portsmouth than Old Towne. Churchland, Midtown, Western Branch, Cavalier Manor and other areas are NEVER mentioned.
I was gonna comment the same thing! When I first moved there I thought Churchland was a separate city from Portsmouth because of it always being omitted in talks. Yes a better assessment is needed... Old Towne has homes that are actually museums you can tour, didn't mention the shipyard, plenty of shopping in Midtown, historic homes in Parkview as well, there's a casino now, etc ...
Fascinating ! I was born at the naval hospital. Dad was navy. We lived in the Oakdale Farms area of Norfolk, the moved out to then new subdivision off Indian River in Chesapeake. Later, after several years elsewhere, I moved back to Norfolk and lived near the beach in East Ocean View. It was sort of slummy then but affordable although high $$$ now. I liked the beach a lot. I get back for visits a few times a year and see the pros/cons of each city. VB is great but so much sprawl, and Chesapeake is good but getting overdeveloped. Traffic is terrible most places. But I like the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and the beach and Sandbridge so get there often . I have a couple friends who live in Portsmouth and hate the city due to crime, high taxes, and especially the corruption in city government. BTW.. I grew up when the first tunnel was built between Norfolk-Portsmouth and there were just ferries. There were tolls on the tunnels .40 cents each way.. until 1976. The 2 lane HRBT had a$1.25 toll. I remember the car ferries that ran out of Little Creek to the Eastern Shore. The CBBT opened in April 1964 and the parallel tresses in 1999. My other memories of Portsmouth were 1318 Spratley St. That’s where Pat Robertson started Chsnnel 27 that eventually grew into his CBN empire in VB. I worked audio and film room there in the mid 60’s when I was in high school. Lots of stories about that. It was before the larger building ( now abandoned)was build over the original brick building. That bier garden sounds wonderful! Since I get back for visits a few times a year, I’d be thrilled to meet you there and buy you a few 🍺🍺🍺sometime and I can tell you more about my experiences growing up there. Every place I go in Hampton Roads is part of my life story. Would love to have a few 🍺🍺with you sometime later this spring or summer!
if you live in Portsmouth you have most likely been to the comador, roger browns, and lobscousers. Also GO TO LOBSCOUSERS they make delicious seafood and you can most likely get in on a friday or saturday night without having to wait a hour or two which is a plus
As fair an assessment of my hometown as anybody could ask for, I think. However, you seemed to mention High Street as running through Olde Towne. Not really. London Street is the main corridor street for that neighborhood. Its parallel neighbor, High Street, is the actual main avenue that runs through the middle of downtown (which made up the original squares of Portsmouth when it was founded in 1752) and continues into Churchland. These are nit-picky points, of course. Part of the historic financial problems of Portsmouth lies in the fact that it has been landlocked by surrounding cities and counties for a very long time, so it could not grow in the way its neighbors Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Suffolk were able to. It has no room for major industries. Also, a fair bit of Portsmouth property is owned by the federal government (no surprise there). It is a city that deserves better, but was always seen as the runt of the Hampton Roads litter.
George, I really appreciate your thoughtful feedback. And thanks for the encouragement! You make a very good point about London Blvd and High St. I primarily noted High St because to me it feels like the most frequently traveled road with most restaurants/Commodore, etc. Also great point about the growth in Portsmouth. Being landlocked has seemed to influence it, like you said. Though all of that to say that I really love the city and have so many wonderful memories here so I'll always have a soft spot for it.
it's funny, I live in Norfolk, but I am from ATLANTA, GA. I TELL all of my friends back home in ATLANTA, about Portsmouth, to me , Portsmouth is like a baby DETROIT, or Decatur, ga.
Wow, I don't think I've been to Decatur specifically. But I've been to many areas around Atlanta and funny you said what you did because I thought the same thing about another area around there. Maybe it was Decatur?
90% of Portsmouth is garbage. I was born & raised there. Taxes are way higher there. If you move there, Manor, Churchland are a few of the nicer areas if you want less crime, a bigger yard, & less noise. Stay away from Cradock, anywhere downtown is bad....even Old Town. Old town is crowded & has no where to park.
Who in heavens tarnation would move in the Churchland area where the mosquitoes 🦟 are as big as horse flies and they literally chase you too your car 😳😐 so serious!
Whats that toll per yr again lol and wheres the money going can it be justified from a city that was paying social workers a yearly salary that never showed up to actually do any work what so ever lol
I appreciate your questions! These are important ones. So as a real estate agent there are topics that I can't directly address legally, though I can do whatever I can to direct to places that provide statistics. I'm still exploring ways to best convey messages in a respectful way and so I try to paint a balanced picture in a way that brings as much understanding about each area as I can. Hopefully by watching the videos it might encourage people to also to additional research into those specific details if a specific area is interesting. Thanks for your kind words also, and thanks for the questions as they're extremely valid!
@@samsansalone no problem.. i really enjoy watching the videos. I may be moving to that area in a few months for military work. I just have no idea where to live lol.. ill be at the USCG hampton roads sector and my wife at Langley. So im trying to find something to make her commute decent and find good schools for our children.
@@2xhollow191 Makes sense! Gotta find a balance with commute times, also - especially with your wife being up at Langley. Some people like being in the west Chesapeake (around Western Branch) area because it's not too far from either of those places. Whenever you'd like send me an email assemblingdreams@gmail.com if you have any specific questions I can answer that take more detail than what is doable here.
