I celebrated Christmas with my uncle this year we did a bunch of things I met a bunch of nice people and places we were in port Townsend maybe I might consider moving here in the future I have a couple other places In mind
I grew up in Georgia, with very harsh summers, hell we don't even get a spring season, it goes straight to 90s after our "winter" or "fall" season. My eyes are also light sensitive, so I don't mind the overcast, though a huge con for me, I love stargazing. Though there are options to go into the mountains above the clouds like Paradise at Mt. Rainier for that.
Been here 8 years and easily my 2 biggest cons you didn’t touch on are: People are unfriendly, introverted and non-caring. Very difficult to establish friends. The restaurant scene is very underwhelming for the size of the city. You would expect much better, but largely it doesn’t attract too chefs and people just accept average to bad food. Chicago was 1,000x better food for every type of cuisine. Barely better than Indiana where I’m from. Other midsized cities are better. But the city is charming, the views just driving around are amazing, the outdoor activities are incredible, awesome day trips to the islands, Canada, Rainier, etc. A nice summer day in Seattle is tough to beat. PLEASE GET BETTER CHEFS!!
I love Seattle, and hate to see such a beautiful city, with beautiful views fall victim to the crime, drug use, and homeless issues. My question is, what is Bellevue doing so drastically different to stay so clean and safe in comparison? Seattle has such potential to be such a wonderful place, from what I hear the most, is the leadership needs to change.
I moved to Seattle 34 years ago, but I no longer have a love affair with the area. The high cost of living, traffic, and homeless encampments have me eager to leave upon retirement.
I moved to Seattle 25 years ago, and it was wonderful then. That Seattle doesn’t exist anymore. We moved to the Bay Area 2016-2022, and moved back to Washington, summer 2022. However, the Seattle Metro area was not even on the list. Moved to Whidbey with a view of the Sound, and really love being back. When we run errands across the water, Can’t wait to get back. Quality of life has gone down dramatically in the metro area. You left out that hot weather doesn’t usually last more than 1-3 weeks, and it’s low humidity. Houses in the Seattle area suck. There is a lot of crappy construction or very outdated homes. The long grey winters are real. Get a light therapy box (medically rated) - they work!!!
Biggest con in Seattle if you are single guy is that there's too many dudes here. Most attractive girls leave for somewhere warm as soon as they done with college.
Wow! This guy sure glazed over the drugs and homelessness is this state, not just Seattle proper as he tries to lie about, the entire state has skyrocketing numbers of homelessness and drug abuse. We live an hour and a half north of Seattle, trying to escape all the sickness, but Inslee has destroyed this once beautiful state, giving the homeless a free pass to do everything from deficating on the streets to shooting up in public. There is no safe place in Washington, the enitre state has panhandlers on every corner and tent cities in every town, even small towns that were rural only a few years ago. We pay more than 5 bucks a gallon for gas when the rest of the country pays 3. Mild weather is not worth the hell here. After 40 years here, my family and I are done.
I moved here from Houston. Its expensive but such a better place to live. Yes it's not what it once was but where is. Places like Fayetteville Ashville will have these problems as growth continues
I honestly love the weather in Seattle. I don’t mind grey and rain THAT much, but what I really can’t stand is extremes. I grew up in Ottawa, Canada and for the vast majority of the year, it’s either -20 degrees with 4 ft of snow on the ground, or it’s 90 degrees with 75% humidity and a humidex like 105. I’ve lived in Seattle since 2013 and I find the rain to be a perfectly fine trade off for the mild winters and damn near perfect summers.
LOL. The median price for a house in Seattle is now a million dollars which means that, unless you get a high-paying tech job ($500K/yr or higher,) the only "living in Seattle" you'll be doing is at the end of at least a one-hour one-way commute from an ex-urb like North Bend or beyond.
This might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Someone that pulls in 500k per year can afford well beyond the median home in any Seattle area outside the very wealthy areas. Realistically to afford a $1m house you need around $250k which is a lot, but no where near what you claim. Many non tech jobs pay well above $100k, so it's feasible for plenty of people not in tech. Maybe not with interest rates as high as they are right now, but this is only a recent development and is by design meant to limit purchasing power
*has moved to the KP South of Gig Harbor* *works in Bellevue* A bit of rural forest and a bit of city with a train that runs from the Tacoma dome... Heyyyy it's beautiful everyone
Recently moved away from the SeaTac area. I spent my time split between SLU and Tacoma. There is a lot to love about the PNW, but what you're trying to sell is the Seattle from five years ago. The massive tech boom that was spurred further by the pandemic took a swift downward turn in January. Massive layoffs coupled with a (currently) horrendous job market have added to the already pervasive issues with drug abuse and property crime. Camps of the unhoused are unavoidable for all but the richest neighborhoods in the greater metro area, including the suburbs you glossed over. While there are plans for affordable housing, most of the high-density development is the typical 5-over-1 "luxury" apartments cobbled together with scotch tape and glue sticks and rented to transient, contracted tech workers at obscene rates. I understand that you have a vested interest in "selling" Seattle as a place to live, but cherry-picking details and smoothing out edges is false advertising.
Seattle DOES have weather extremes in the form of rain. It can rain every day for 3 weeks at a time. We often have cold rainy weather nonstop from May into mid July. We just had a week of 50-degree days in the middle of June. Summers are short and typically have maybe 8 weeks of sunny warm weather.
okay, how are heavy traffic and the lack of AC cons XD? I lived my whole life without AC and with the stress of bustling traffic! I cannot wait to move to this great city, thank you for the effort you put in the video man!
I believe he's saying because now even Seattle is getting more higher temp days, records being broken for consecutive days in the 90s or 100s which I guess was unheard us a few years ago.
great video! I wish we could see more tech expansion at even a fraction of what you have in Seattle. Perfect breakdown of the traffic situation with the comparison to LA. When visiting Seattle I've typically thought the traffic could always be worse...
I live in Galicia, in the northwest of Spain, a few years ago I met a girl who worked as an English teacher's assistant, she was from Seattle and during her first time here, she couldn't stop cursing her bad luck... coming to sunny Spain and falling into a region that has a climate similar to that of Seattle and where instead of playing the guitar we play the bagpipes... in the end she ended up liking Galicia but she convinced her Galician boyfriend and now they live on the Mediterranean coast and They only come to Galicia in summer to cool off...
I think you will like it. If you have the money and can afford to live in a nice neighborhood away from the ugly parts of Seattle then go for it. But be aware they have a gloomy climate. But they have a great variety of entertainment, and food choices. Just make sure you get a.c.. Summers are getting warmer. I grew up in Washington state. Born on the East side. Me... I prefer the Spokane area. Much cheaper housing, traffic is much better... Lots of stuff to do and we get all 4 seasons and many more sunny days and a drier climate. Choose Seattle for a temperate climate and if you do not like snow. But boy howdy is the traffic, bums, housing costs bad, and costs for pretty much everything is high(like $8.00 for a Latte'). Maybe live in the suburbs there? 👍We do get a ton of people from the Seattle area move over here. I guess having a major airport here helps. Just wish they would not bus their bums over here. 🤦♀️ I would choose Bellevue instead...
They will need to eventually upgrade to a heavy rail system as they expand, or yeah it will take forever to get anywhere, hell it takes 45 min. to an hour to get from the airport to downtown. Not to mention cars keep cutting it off and getting hit by the train.
I was born and raised in Seattle in the 40’s thru 60’s but after my college and military years I moved out of Seattle to the suburbs. The best move ever. Housing prices were still decent and living conditions haven’t deteriorated anywhere as bad as in Seattle. The problem, “the city council”. A bunch of inapt and idealistic people that think Seattle should be run as a Utopian society that will operate without guidance or any type of social and moral boundaries.
Utopian?! lol, Seattle is ruthlessly capitalistic with a very thin veneer of liberalism. Always cracks me up how many people who don't live here claim to understand the place and then get even the most obvious fundamentals wrong.
Cons might include but are not limited to : getting knocked out by a homeless man, getting robbed and shot, waking up and seeing your car is missing. Pros: feel free to use any hard narcotic of your choice without any consequences.
You're not wrong at all. I lived in Capitol Hill area and my apartment got broken into by a homeless person. They stole my belongings and laptop. The homeless problem has gotten worse in recent years. There are more problems to Seattle too that isn't discussed in this video.
More than a quarter-million residents of greater Seattle have considered leaving the Emerald City due to rising crime - the highest percentage of any large metro area in the country, according to a new national survey
What about the so-called "Seattle freeze"? How are the people there? How are race relations compared to open minded LA for example? Is that something for new people to consider?
LOL, dont let the schools teach your kids, they'll be getting a state sponsored sex changed behind your back....yep thats what they do around here.....
They say Los Angeles is due for the big one, but yeah if.. or when the Cascadia fault goes, that will drawf the San Andreas fault, hopefully that will be 100s of years out, also who knows when the next volcano will erupt. To see Mt. Rainier erupt would be a terrifying sight.
no kidding, they are wasting billions on this rolling meth den and homeless refuge. its funny they are building alll this infrastructure that is not going to be used effectively. total racket
@@Dkmo94 I used to live in Kent, that's where I found an apartment when I first moved out there from Georgia, though that apartment in 2016 was 950/mo is now 1500/mo.
Did you mention them all the homeless people and the drug dealers and all the fentanyl on the streets? Okay you did mention Homelessness but the crime is at an all time high!
Violent crime is like 14 percent lower then national average. Property crime is through the roof. Dont own a nice car in the city. Please though. Tell me a major desirable city that doesnt have homeless or drugs? Yeah... news flash. It doesn't exist. Come to Chicago, LA, Miami, Houston. Where people will actually stick you up and run your pockets... and take all your shit. Seattle is a cake walk.
This guys never left his house lol he not bout the sea life 🥱literally has no f clue what he talkin 🤥 I’ll be at the e l zoo I’m d real Seattle historical Mofo …first tip this boy never left his casa b
Gaslight much??? There is no homeless issue, it's all about the drugs, and the use on ALL public transportation, bus and light rail. I know it's your job, soi boi, but please be more honest.
because the light rail doesn't check for tickets, I've ridden many times and never once was asked to show my ticket. So the homeless just jump right on.
