Thanks for subscribing. Unless you like big crowded cities, don't spend much time in Phnom Penh. I think in Siem Reap you will get a better feel of the Khmer people and culture. It is a city of only 135,000 people and it is spread out. No buildings in SR can be taller than Angkor Wat which means that the tallest buildings are 5 floors (plus the ground floor). No skyscraping condo building here!

Very nice account of what it is you do & spend - and having more than just one really helps me to mentally prepare for what could be overlooked. Seems to be allowing me a comfortable existence in Siem Reap on my rather average $1500 US SS check. Having several thousands more put back for a start up & additional emergency funds when I arrive should allow a somewhat stressless transition and for getting settled somewhere comfortable ? - - - Thanks for the heads up and shared experiences. Perhaps next year I can look you up and buy you a beer over there ?

Don't use an air conditioner in Cambodia? You're a tough old dude. It's so humid and hot even at night time
@AutumninAsia
@AutumninAsia Год назад
One may think that. I used to live in the desert. You need AC when it is really dry. Here in Cambodia, when it gets hot, it also gets humid. There is a big difference between humid hot and dry hot. When it is dry and you have a fan on you, it's like a convection oven. When it is humid and you put a fan on you, the humidity blowing on you acts a bit like a cooler. I've experienced both kinds of hots and it is easier and cheaper to cool off, really. Anyways, thanks for watching the videos 🤗

So what agency you use for retirement visa and would you be willing to help someone out if they went over on retirement visa with advice on accommodation etc to get started
@AutumninAsia
@AutumninAsia Год назад
Well, when you come into the Kingdom, you'll want to get an "O" visa. That will give you 30 days. But after like 2 weeks you can go to a travel agent in town and they will help you to file for a 12-month visa. They will send your passport to Phnom Pehn and in about a week you will get it back with a 12-month, multiple-entry visa. That will cost $290 USD. As far as apartments I would use IPS here in town. Also, IPS has a website so you can look at all the available options. But Please... do your own research and due diligence. Thanks for watching the video

Do you have a video discussing the challenges of heat and humidity and having to live in AC 24/7?
@AutumninAsia
@AutumninAsia 6 месяцев назад
Hello there. I have in the past mentioned about the heat and humidity but I will say this. Personally I use very little AC and I will tell you why. I am comfortable with the heat and yes it does get hot. I have found out that with the humidity, all I need is a good breeze, whether that is wind or from a fan. With the moisture in the air and a breeze on me, it cools me down. But if you were living in the Desert where it is dry, it would make you feel hotter. I had a nieghbor who needed AC on all the time and he told me it costed him over $200 mo. So if you need AC all the time for health reasons, Be prepared to spend some money. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching !

Health insurance is a MUST. Avoid at all cost the "Royal Angkor Hospital". Awfully expensive. Using old equipment. I stood there for a week. Bill was about 6.000 USD. It was in 2015... Hopefully enough, I didn't pay a cent thanks to my travel insurance. In the meantime there are other solutions, closer to centre.

@AutumninAsia
@AutumninAsia Год назад
Well, it's getting better. We had a great storm last night and it cleared up a bit. The burning of the fields should end by the middle of April due to the beginning of the planting season. After that as per last year, it is really good. Air pollution due to cars and stuff is minimal. Although, people do burn there trash year round.

No, you don't have to. If you want to get money from the ATM machine, you have the option of getting your money either in US $ or Cambodia Riel. I just get Riel, it's much easier to pay for things. If you pay with a $100 ot $50, the bill has to be perfect. And besides, if you pay in US $, you will get the change in Riel.

Here many of the expat-run bars and cafes offer short term accommodation in comfortable rooms located in their building. Do any of the bars in SR offer similar accommodation??

How do visas work in Cambodia? Do I have to do a visa run every month or can I just do a visa extension?
@AutumninAsia
@AutumninAsia 9 месяцев назад
If you come in under an "O" visa (not a tourist visa) you can apply for a 3,6 or 12mo. extension. The 6 and 12mo. Visas are multiple entry visas. The 12mo costs $280 if you go to Phnom Penh and do it yourself. A travel agent will do it for you for a $10 agency fee. Be sure to apply about 10 days before you current visa expires. Have a great day and thanks for watching the videos 🤗
