The winter weather is closing in fast! Do you have a favourite destination to chase the sun when the cold weather arrives? Let us know your favourite place...

My wife and I enjoy going on a Caribbean cruise each February, which we consider our winter thaw. Nothing beats getting out of snow and ice, like being in the Caribbean sun! It won't be happening this coming February, but we look forward to life returning to normal in 2022. Congratulations on learning a manual transmission.

Thanks so much! Learning manual was a long time coming. Still a work in progress judging by our last couple of excursions but I'm bound to improve over time! 😂
@bearbb5

@@OurFreedomYears I remember the first time I drove a vehicle with a manual transmission. I was moving my brother, and had rented a rather large truck - I think it was in excess of 25 feet. When I arrived at the Uhaul dealership, I signed all the paper work etc., then went to drive the truck off the lot... it was a manual. A bit of panic, but I got it moving.
@OurFreedomYears

@@bearbb5 Well I'm very glad that Gillian was not testing her manual skills for the very first time in a 25 foot moving truck!

Great video ladies! Jillian, you’re very brave to take a standard driving lesson...good for you 👍. Split looks like a lovely location & I love your Air B&B....I so look forward to your travel videos. If I was able to travel again & the world was a safer place, I would like to spend time again in Malaga, Spain during the cold Canadian winter. I spent a month there ~5 years ago, renting accommodation across from the beach. It was within walking distance to the port, downtown, food markets & lots of tapas restaurants and not too far away from beautiful sites like Granada, Ronda, etc.

I really enjoy your videos. I'm looking into slow traveling and curious to know about safety and security...What do you do with your passports and valuables? Do you think a travel safe is necessary? Any tips for security that you recommend? Could you also share what a good capsule wardrobe should consist of to address the various climates? Thanks so much!
@OurFreedomYears
@OurFreedomYears 3 года назад
Great questions! For capsule wardrobes, you can take a look at our complete three-season packing list here: bit.ly/37xvK9V. From all those clothes, I put aside a small capsule that I can wear in my latest destination (eg 5 x tops, 2 x pants, 1 x accessory scarf, etc) and the rest stays in my suitcase. For safety and security, most Airbnbs don't have a safe so we typically hide away our valuables when we leave the house. If it's a real concern for you, you should certainly consider a lightweight travel safe. We also share some general safety tips in this video: bit.ly/33XE0hG Hope that helps!

So girls, how your plan regarding the Christmas market went? :-) Yes, I'm being a little bit nasty. Unfortunately, our government succumbed to the media pressure and closed pubs, coffee bars and restaurants (save for takeout). However, with numbers dropping quickly (were on the downward slope of the curve) and vaccine available, we at least hope they're going to open bars and restaurants. Considering your story, with a lot of Europe being under curfew, which is probably about to stay in January as well, you are probably at the best / most liberal place to be at this point. Especially if they open hospitality industry in January.
