I think 85% of people would love to live life like you. I think people are getting tired of the hustle and bustle and working so hard just to pay a huge mortgage. You’re doing it right. Beautiful.
if i ever won like $100k or even $50k.. i think this is enough for me to leave canada and go back to philippines. buy a piece of land and build a cozy house in the province with a budget of 30k or 40k.
Closer to 95% of people long for a simple lifestyle I now know my grandparents lives were more for filling than many of us today because they had true wealth, family farm nature you can’t bet it.
Super impressed with hydro electric system he devised . Also got to give him an applaud for all the effort going towards keeping it earth friendly despite the extra work that commitment requires.
I'd love that lifestyle. We're taught from a very young age that we need college, career, wealth, power, control, and lots of expensive things. They forget to speak of the debt and stress that eventually kill all of us in one way or another. People, aside from the few who figure it out early enough, like this young man, don't live happily. We die chasing life. And never appreciate what is already available to us, for free. You are a wise young man.
Basically, the Elite (Politics, Universities, Multinationals) managed to 'imprison' us that way. I did an experiment the other day; I met my friends for a long walk without my smartphone. I felt...free. Planning to repeat it.
Indoctrination by schools(Federally controlled) by media and entertainment big business like the movie THEY LIVE which was a euphemism for the elitists control of society and the economy
From the day I was born until about the age of 13 or 14 (not exactly sure now) me and my family (7 kids plus Mom & Dad) lived off the grid. No electricity, no running water, clothes were washed by hand with scrub board, no indoor dryer etc. We had an enriched childhood and never once thought we were disadvantaged. We had a wonderful childhood-as in “Little House on the Prairie “.
My mum and her family lived that way every summer growing up, too. They lived in a city through the school year. (Both my grandparents were school teachers.) And as soon as the school year was finished their family moved back to their cabin in the woods for the summer. No electricity or running water. Bathed in the lake. Cooked and heated the home with the wood stove. They could hardly wait to go there each summer. Those were the best days of their lives. I remember visiting there as a kid, too. We pumped the water outside from the well by hand. By then they had gas for lights and a gas stove for cooking and a gas powered washing machine. And eventually they got a phone line. But no one ever thought of being at that beautiful place as hardship. To us it was paradise. Granted, we didn't build it or chop or carry firewood, etc. My grandpa did. But for my mum and her family and for all of the family since, that place and that way of life made some of the best memories of our lives.
And where are you now is the question... Still enjoying mother Earth and giving more than you take... Or are you with the masses, running around being cancer and leaving a shit trail everywhere you go?
The most important thing this man did, was choose the perfect land to build his home on. If you have a large, clean, natural source of water on the surface of your property, you can do just about anything you want with it and make it successful. Then, he built his home of stacked logs and Cobb supplied by his own land. That meant little to no waste of the trees and thick walls so the house is easy to heat and cool. Everything is so well thought out! Well done!...seriously, this is the best I've seen anywhere. Good job!😊
@Christine Gavin Broken Twig could you use solar or wind power? Or even a combination of solar and the grid or wind and the grid. Where does your water come from now? Also you can make sure your windows are double or preferably triple paned and top of the line. That your doors are as well and that your home is well insulated with no spots that you are leaking air. Then if it's just the 2 of you, you might consider closing off parts of the house you don't need all the time. Those things will really help your energy consumption.
Also he built the right property to be on that land without damaging nature etc, cos there are so many idiots that would build totally inappropriate homes on this type of beautiful land, and totally miss the point and ruin the surrounding nature, and wildlife habitat...... To live on the land and keep as close to the nature and wildlife that surrounds you is how it's done, with as little disruption to wildlife n nature as possible it's the only way... What a dream come true, and what a very lucky fella to be able to live this way......
@@danielle5360 absolutely! I wish more of us would build this way. They say the most environmentally friendly home is the one already built. And I agree with that. But if you are going to build a home, this is the way to do it! And not only that, he doesn't have a big mortgage either.😊🐝❤
I'm an older lady, live in the US and I have to give you tons of accolades for all of your hard work to turn your land into a beautiful Self-supporting homestead! What more could a person want or need, how awesome! Amazing job!! I'd live there in a heartbeat!
You have such great knowledge of building, plumbing. Electricity. Sooo impressed. Ever think of runni g courses in summer so people can camp whilst learning?
I love this place! It’s just great! This is how my great grandparents lived and also survived the dust bowl and the Great Depression and raised a lot of kids 2! I know they had a much larger land mass but always we grew everything we needed and had some animals 2. The little house built by my great great grandpa started really small and was added onto after 17 kids and 72 grandkids =) I want to go back to my roots and my green thumbs miss the dirt and growing! It’s work but it’s worth it =)
You find peace because the elements that make up city life is not present here! Those elements issue us with anxiety and stress from a visual and mental aspect. Automobiles, overcrowding of people on the streets, fluctuation of commercial and trading operations, egotism, arrogant and intimidating humans, emergency services ( police, fire and ambulance), being judged by other people...... all those aspects are not present in this video and this way of life. The city was made to infuse anxiety, depression and tension (paying rent, bills etc) to the human beings consciousness!
@@fredgalaxy7632 The issues you present are problems that _you_ have with that lifestyle, and are not necessarily shared between us all. We all find our own peace in our own way. Living off grid does not inherently remove egotism, arrogance, intimidation or judgement.
Good for you! In my younger years hubby and I wanted to live this way, so proud of this younger generation seeking sustainable lifestyle not driven by worldly materials for happiness! Less is Better, Good Job Love love your work!!
Great set-up but one word of advice. When chopping trees for your fire would you want to start as far away from your property as possible and I see years go on and you get older and weaker the firewood you collect will be closer to your home not further away
if wanting to clear land near the home though, say, for potential future additions to livestock housing, it makes sense to do it nearby until you have cleared what you need. i've only seen a couple minutes of the whole video so far, but read your comment during a pause and had that thought.
This is my first time here and I must say that I am so impressed with your knowledge of things , how polite you are, your energy, stamina, persistence, etc. You've done an amazing job and deserve all the benefits. I wish you the very best from life and my God bless you abundantly!
I used to live on a handmade boat 9m all my life until 2013 I moved to Europe, they managed to convince me that I'm useless and can't survive in here, looked back how happy I were but confused with how lazy I've gotten and if I'm still able to fish and be self-sufficient. Your video gave me hope as it's somewhere in the middle between my 2 worlds. Thank you.
I gotta give credit to the RU-vid recommendation algorithm for bringing me here. I’m going through some major life changes and this is reminding me where my priorities lie-a simple, honest life in tune with the earth. Thanks for showing the world your experience, you live a beautiful life.
C R I Z L A I had to look up what you meant, but I did appreciate the sentiments in many of them. Thank you for bringing them to my attention. Good reminders for sure.
Absolutely love the life you've built. I would love to live that way as well. The world has gone to far with need/greed of always wanting bigger, better, more, etc. I have come to feel a very strong pull lately to live a simpler, old ways life.
It's because we have governments: we were fine in tribes and communities till governments came qlong :stripped us of our culture and threw us in town's and cities: and forced us to live by their rules. We need to all function the way we are meant too. GOD created us organic we are forced to live an in-organic life thanks to our governments: people wonder why they are ill:unhappy :fatigued stressed :we are meant to live like this guy and im doing everything in my power to get out and live like this guy as i know thats what would enrich my life and im fed up of being dictated too qbout stuff that's bad for my health . You can do it too my friend we all can xx
Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds ru-vid.comUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.
This is awesome!! I am at stage 1 in Portugal, on 18 hectares in the Algarve. I have my work cut out and can really appreciate the hard work you have put in! Love your hydro set up, I am good with solar power here. Keep up the good work sir! :-)
Mr. Mumby, that is awesome you are living off grid. Being a single girl I live with my mom in a home on a suburban in ft lauderdale florida. I would prefer to live off grid like this man in the video or like you.
People started moving off grid and into self reliance 2009 when we had that recession. I bought my land with what was left of my 401k. Live in a 12x20w 2 lofts and a fireplace and Bill's are about 400$month. I never wanted to be in debt again and grieve over losing possessions. Money is not my God anymore.
@@sparrowflying864 And your point? He isn’t living in the system which is near or in big cities like they want which gives the controllers more control.
Thankyou for the tour of your house and what you’ve built. All I can say is WOW, what a great way to live. You must be very clever to build what you have and do the electrics. Well done!
Oh what a BEAUTIFUL lifestyle! I can only dream of living this way at the moment, I'm as guilty as my teenage kid of being dependant on sugary junkfood and electricity😔
He’s soft spoken, sure but we have very different definitions of “kind hearted”. I would never consider needless animal exploitation kind, but I suppose the the fact that you and everyone that agreed with you does is exactly why the world is in the state it is today. I can’t wait until people look back on these days and think “how were people so blind to consider this behavior as decent?!”
I'm baffled as to why someone would say you're not off grid when you are making your own power. (?) You're doing a fantastic job! To hell with the trolls.
These little cabins in the woods videos are so soothing. Maybe bc it’s an escape from real life and you become one with nature. Thanks for sharing ! Incredible work. 🤗
Can't wait to live like this. I am an introvert empath that has been traumatized. I just want to live alone (with animals) in nature away from the rest of the world. I will be a lil more than an hour away from a major city, but I'll be fine. Nature, springs, lakes, waterfalls and lots of land for growing food. I just really need a break from broken people who refuse to self reflect and do their own healing. I just want to worry about me and my animals, worrying about others have drained and exhausted me.
it's the best medicine for your soul. I am a lot like you Bibi. Keep setting the intention until it manifests. Pray with all your heart sweet soul. You WILL get there. You have my compassion, and I'll be praying for you to have the stars align to make this opportunity a reality for you. xoxo.
How did you learn to do all this stuff, especially the hydro electric system? Do you think you'd be interested in teaching others this kind of life style? I'm sure there are some people who would love to learn from you.
I was thinking the same thing! I more than want I feel like I NEED to know this. I could teach my grandad and my neice whom is so curious how this stuff works.
He's an engineer. Either trained or natural. They think like this. In the future, I see villages popping up around people like Kris. He shares the knowledge with a few keen learners and presto! Self Organized Collectives living on the land in village style. The old (healthy) ways become new again.
So what’s it like in the UK: can you just buy a piece of land and build anything you like there? In other words: is it completely legal to construct all these buildings anywhere you like? I certainly hope so, but I can hardly imagine it in this over-regulated world… You did a FANTASTIC JOB, Kris ❤️!
I love your place and your accent. I"m jealous, though... you're doing what I studied years to dream of doing. Just dreaming, you are accomplished! Congratulations 🎉🎊
Just came here to show my appreciation for the picture of Bob Marley. One love brother you are an inspiration to young people all over the world to follow our souls back into nature. Many blessings on you and your beautiful home. 💚💛❤
@@chatryna Very true... still, statistically... those who are able to limit their risk exposure are logically better off. Some things we can control... other things.. not so much. The wise don't fear... they just try to make the best choices they can in every moment.
@@faithrada I agree. The Rule of Fear appears to be woven into the fabric of Western Civilization. I try to remind myself to not make my decisions based on what I fear. But living remotely would have an apparent advantage as you suggested.
I just love the way this whole set up is! It reminds me of how God intended us to nurture our soul by connecting with the planet that he made for humanity. Simple living, undistracted by the busyness of modern expansion. Extremely well designed!
"Apparently it will kill me..... Even though it wont" I love it!!! You have to laugh at and love all the internet experts that will argue how you should live. In all honesty. Most people don't want to hear others opinion. They want to hear their opinion come out of others mouth.. Much respect on your true craftsmanship. You are a structural artist. Best wishes!!
Nathan Hollis Reminds me of old expression, in this case: what do viewers and assholes have in common? Everybody has one. - or something like that .....
I’m knew to you’re channel, it’s great what you’ve done. It definitely makes me think of what an English /Welsh countryside cottage would look like. It’s great and wonderful . What you need now is a couple dogs, cats and a Mrs. I’m so glad you’re doing so well. Bravo!!!!
Great content, love how you look after the girls. Missing my little cluckers! Beautiful set up. Thank you beautiful human and greetings from Texas 🤠 y'all
Off grid living doesn't always mean living like a caveman. Making your own electricity and irrigation systems are a lot easier than you'd assume. I applaud you on your build and choice, wish I could do that myself.
This is so awesome, I’m planning on living off grid very soon here and I love the way you set up your home. I’ll be sure taking notes, keep up with the videos
You have a beautiful life. I love the details of your new shop door...I noticed your doors are all very creative. Not just rectangular openings. Wonderful!❤️
Well done you! Just found you. Handsome, intelligent Brit. Wish I was younger and still in the UK, I would love to see this in person. Super setup. The shop ceiling 😱 wow! Good for you on the allergies. Mine bother me all year. Loved the tour, thank you for sharing!
I would love to learn more about the electricity system. You are a l great example for me to step out of the grid we are in with our city living. It is remarkable to view your videos.
This is an amazing set up. I love the woods and the tub. It must be so relaxing and peaceful after a day of hard work to have a long soak in that tub. You are lucky. Enjoy
but at the end he said he was producing food from the chickens. if not just eggs but slaughters them then not so compassionate after all . what's the point of living a hermit's life when engaging in unwholesome, unrighteous deeds devoid of meditation on divine wisdom and developing compassion in one's heart for all creatures. For that end he has got a great opportunity as far as external facilities are concerned but lacks a genuine spiritual guidance. he has got a great mundane life but alas! all for nothing at the end.
I would let the hens out to run free in the forest. Here in Morocco I let mine out to run in the fields. They come home at dusk. In 9 years not one lost.
@@doncoffee9995 if there's an emp whether from the sun, cyber or otherwise, everyone will be off grid, ive been studying and prepping for that day;if it happens in my lifetime, at least my son and grandkids will have some off grid supplies and survival equipment etc, i was going to buy a piece of land here in UK but they said im only allowed to stay on it 28 days per year, which is totally unfair and madness that you can't live on your own land,i don't know how people get to be able to live permanently on their own land, ive heard you have to get permission from the planners etc , wish i knew how ; atb👍
Aww, you've got bats in your belfry!! Also, I gotta say: you remind me a lot of my recently deceased, long-time super-buddy. It's not exact; his face was a bit longer on the bottom half. But you're both level 5 or 6 ash hair with premature gray (he was already going grey when I first met him when he was 18 and I was 14.) Green/gray eyes (his changed colour, even as far as hazel, but they were mostly green). He's super creative, and can make/do anything, and had his life taken a different path, maybe he'd be living in a beautiful, sustainable house he built himself out in the forest. He'd be very happy with that, as long as everyone could come and visit him all the time, because he's extremely extroverted. The thing that really makes me think of him when I see this video, is you both have enormous heads (it's good! It means you're intelligent!), and your voices have a similar timbre, but with vastly different accents. (We're Canadian, but because we're as far west as you can get in Canada, on an island, in what America calls "the Pacific Northwest', we don't have The Hoser Accent. We sound like anyone from the west coast of North America; definitely more Seattle than Toronto.) So yeah. You could definitely be cousins, or perhaps stamped out of not-identical moulds from different wings of the same factory? My friend would've gotten a huuuuge kick out of your house. I hope you live a life that is as long or short as you want it to be, and filled to the brim with happiness. It makes me feel warm fuzzies there are people like you, who remind me of him, out in the world, living their best lives. 🤘🏾
Wow, I love your house and 'adjacent ' buildings" and I admire your cojones for taking that leap from London into "the middle of nowhere" so to speak 💝🙏🏼💝you really look like you're enjoying it out there, even though it may be a harsh living at times I can only imagine the peace and calm you get from being so one with nature 🤩🌟💫👌
I watched you tough it out during the building of your home a few years ago. Absolutely amazing how determined you were and how much work you did. So great to see you a few years on living the life you have, with your own hands, created for yourself. Congratulations man. I hope you have company to enjoy your life with.
The roof on your workshop is absolutely amazing and gorgeous! You are very talented! The workshop also looks alot bigger then your home.. why not live in there since it's so big? I amazed at everything you have built by hand and just the whole set up! Enjoying life and living how you want is wonderful! Many blessings from Ky in the US! ❤
What a thoughtful guy to warm up his chick's food! What a MARVELOUS set up! Love the tub and window!!💗May your water ALWAYS flow down hill!😜 Subscribed!
As a child, I often used to daydream about living off-grid in a cottage similar to yours. As an adult, i was able to live off-grid in the southern California Topa Topa mountains for two years. It was just an old mobile home, but in an old homestead in the national forest. It was amazing. Though the set up you created is far superior. It looks idyllic to me. I have subscribed will enjoy watching your other videos! 💗
I’m so drawn to Pioneer living but it’s a lot of work we do heat that our house with wood so if we lost electricity we could cook up food on the wood-burning stove’s beautiful creation you have
Thank you for this video. I'm going to purchase land, and build my tiny house. Okay so maybe I won't build it, but buy it or something. I basically just want to live peacefully in and with nature. 2020 has showed me that I need to have my own plot and live off the grid!
Hello Kris! I’ve followed your journey for a long time now, and find everything that you do so wholesome and meaningful. The thing that really resonates with me are your wonderfully organic structures. Your window frames and doors have become friends!
Omg this is just stunning ...I remember seeing a video when you were just putting the tables in under the windows and I never could have imagined it would end up looking like this...it's beautiful...Thank you for showing us your creation X
