Ive been telling my man I want a hybrid flowhive so we can have honey and wax ❤️ yours is so beautiful and I enjoy your channel. Its something we also aspire to be one day. Living off of our harvests, our land, and blessing others with abundance. May the Lord continue to bless your harvests ❤️ Edit: I also love how one bee flew into the jar like "Hey.....HEY" 😂❤ she was all up in the mix.
I had never heard of a flow hive. We raised bees from the time we were first married and we were teenagers when that happens until about I don't know maybe thirty years down the road. Our first Hive was in the city of Asheville and my husband built a glass Hive and we made a cover for it and put it on her back deck and it was covered in clothes deck and when we had children they were enthralled to be able to see the bees working and it's pulling out the comb.
I've been watching the flow hive videos for months. Apparently they were the center of a big controversy in the beekeeping community but I think they are worth a try. :D especially if you have little ones or members who are scared of bees, it looks less intimidating.
They ball up in the hive and vibrate to generate heat and keep it warm. They use the stored honey as food. The hive basically stays the same temperature all year round even when there’s snow on the ground
Beautiful video ❤ Yall are an inspiration. I love how you are showing people a more sustainable way of living while remaining in the city. It makes so many people's dream to be more self sufficient actually acheivable even without huge swaths of land. Your focus on providing calories is 👌 not enough people think about this when gardening or growing food. Thank you for being yourselves, sharing your knowledge and lifestyle with the world ❤
This was a beautiful video! I would love to keep bees 🐝 Of the different types of beehives you utilize, which do you think is best for you & the bees overall?
It's really hard to say, they each have benefits and drawbacks. The Flow hive is really expensive and we wouldn't have been able to afford it if they hadn't sent us one in exchange for a video last year. It's really convenient for harvesting and easier on the bees than the horizontal hive, but the bees also seem to thrive in the cheaper-to-build open frame hives where they can build out their comb more naturally. The downside there is that it's hard to inspect them without breaking some of the comb and you can't extract the honey while leaving the comb intact. A combo of multiple styles of hive works best for us!
I've looked into the flow hive and I keep getting told by experienced bee keepers that they aren't natural. I totally disagree and think they are the best thing ever! Esp less messy than the scraping and spinning, plus all the other equipment they have to have. I'm sure since they are making large amounts and selling it, it does better for them to do it their way. But for like me and you, it's just for household use so what's the big deal? I would love to eventually get one!
Gussing they have to decap, clean out, and reweld the wax cells before restocking. Is there a lot of capping crumbs and how long before they realise the cells are empty?
And bee pollen cured my allergies. After 1 teaspoon, I never had seasonal allergies again I do have the odds, sneezing fit here and there, but nothing compared to before I found the magic in bee pollen.
Great video! Quick question I'm trying to figure out if I could use a bee hive but I live in a suburban area. Does this cause any issues for the neighbours? Aka do they get a lot of bees or is it not noticeable?
It works great for honey, but the one downside is that you don’t really get any wax. We have a horizontal hive with open frames that we get tons of wax from though so maybe you can do the same
