There are people who hustle very hard and work weekends who don't make a fraction of what she does. Effort truly is irrelevant. She has a highly in-demand skill set, that is all.
Abe Sapien i agree with this. That’s why I don’t complain when I work as many hours as I do. I know this guy who is 70 yrs old and works everyday just like me. I feel really bad for him because he is in debt up to his eyeballs and will probably work like this until he dies. So sad.
@@gavip24 Thank you for your comment, Gabriela. I was a small business owner for 8 years and recently had to close. It was very painful to transition from comfortable independence to blue collar work (pizza jobs, housekeeping, etc.). Two years ago I even lost my car and lived entirely by bus for 7 months. Now I have a '98 Buick that I take care of. Anyways, I feel I work just as hard now--maybe harder--than when I ran my six-figure publishing business.
@@alexanderdelarosahidalgo3092 Yes definitely, always great to see millennials doing well, most of the older generations don't think we stand a chance but this incredible women is proving them wrong.
@@akin242002 That's ok maybe she has day one friends, I work nearly all the time as a 3rd year resident physician but I still have close friends I keep in touch with who are understanding of my work life and respect it.
Jesus Christ I must’ve really struck a nerve. Since you clearly work at a fast food joint, why the heck would you want your life replayed on RU-vid? Go back to playing video games in your mamma’s basement.
David Mangwana her taste will change when she moves into a downtown city condo like she wants to. Because she will have to keep up with the city girl Image
Brittney Jackson, looks like you’re reaching for ways to blame the mom for what the dad did. Whether or not she saw it coming no one deserves that type of treatment from their spouse and parent.
I work in financial technology and have quite a few certifications and awards but have a crappy pay and struggle to find a new job... connections > skills and field
Her father is absolutely disgusting for doing that! I agree with her, you absolutely can NOT depend on others as a financial cushion. You have to work hard and save your coins and make sure you’re looking out for YOU.
112k a year is good money, there’s no struggling when your bringing in 112k a year. With 2 incomes in my house we don’t even make 112k a year. Your doing good girl keep up the good work!
Exactly....very high, there’s a lot people that don’t know that. I see too many students asking if that degree is good. I don't know where they at because that degree in high demand as you said.
This is what I was going to college for at first...but some of the math and programming classes got to me. I knew I wasn’t going to be a competitive candidate in the Seattle area and so I switched majors.
Girl my dad did the same thing when I was 16! It’s because of that I worked 10x harder and was super careful about money. We’re stronger and better because of it. 💪🏽
I'm a father and I say that in "deed". I never knew my dad but his absence sprouted resilience. 10x is biblical you keep praying for those who treat you bad because God gets the glory.
J yeah. Depending on the interest rate on her student loans I’d maybe pay those off first. Can maybe get a return investing that outpaces the interest, but maybe not (student loans can be pretty high). Also the weight off your shoulders of no more student debt is awesome. Besides that I can’t find anything else to nit pick
I think she needs to work harder on paying off her student loans. Only $300 a month? She could easily do 600 - 1k. If she did 1k a month she could pay it off in under 5 years.
Faith Kings She’s only 27 years old and has two jobs in the tech industry that she enjoys, bought a house, has 3 real estate rental income streams (spare bedroom, basement and garage), rents her car out, has 2 Roth IRA’s, a high yield savings account and plans to buy another property. Sounds like she’s working pretty smart to me!
@@JCizzleSoCal She doesn't have two Roth IRAs, that wouldn't make any sense. She has a Roth 401K and a Roth IRA. She's over the income limit for a traditional IRA so a Roth IRA makes sense, but at her income it makes a lot more sense to invest in a traditional 401K, or at least split between a traditional 401K and Roth IRA.
@@JCizzleSoCal And she's working her butt off, missing out on life. Sorry but she's working, not living. In her later years she will regret having spent her prime years of life working two jobs, and not doing something more meaningful. I don't understand people like you and her. When you're old you're more likely to be plagued by health problems etc and won't be able to enjoy money as much as when you're younger. Idiots.
@Please Clap how can they be lazy and at the same time have ppl worried that they'll take all the jobs? Sounds to me like people just want a scapegoat, but ok.
Please Clap load of crock. Latinos are some of the hardest working people on the planet. It's normal in most Latin American countries to work minimum of 50 hours per week.
Christian Aviles there's many Latinas in high profile jobs making it. I work for Health & Human Services, most of the top managers, directors, chiefs here are Latinas. They worked hard to move up the chain. I have two Masters degrees. 😎
@@boxfox1239 300k is possible. I work for a energy utility in CA. Most linemen for pur company make 160-260k a year. 160k is barely any OT compared to 260k which is a lot of OT. 300k is pretty steep unless you work for a utility and union in socal or bay areas but cost of living is much higher.
@@boxfox1239 Pg&e is alright, but they recently have received a lot of backlash due to all the fires here. Pg&e has been faulted with some of the large fires here. The camp fire being the biggest and most damaging one. The company's future isn't looking so bright at the moment but given time they can reverse the popular opinion about them right now. As far as downtime, it depends. During good weather things are slower paced hut during the bad it can be very busy and faster paced. if you are a woman applying to an IT position they have to hire you, I heard this myself from a hiring manager who hires for a lot of companies, they hire minority and women if they apply even if they are not as qualified. This is 100% true.
I think she’s paying off her loans over time because her interest is super lower and whenever you can borrow money for almost no money it’s better to pay it back in small amounts and keep more liquidity for investments where her money will grow faster
@@LKevin213 she does not know what would happen in 13 yrs....job loss. Medical problems, bad economy etc etc. She has the money to axe it now. You shouldn't bank on the future stability for something that can easily be taken care of now
@@lacrymosa777 true but I think cyber security is as safe as it gets, if she stays on top of her game. Paying off debt would be my number one goal too but maybe she has a loan where she's charged a fee if she overpays her rate
Mistake. You can deduct the interest from your taxes and invest what you would have payed. Also she works for the govt so there might be loan forgiveness after a certain number of years of service.
@@dothedeed Loan forgiveness doesn't apply to tech jobs. It's for public interest roles. Even that is hard to come by nowadays because of this administration. Less than 1% who apply actually get their loans forgiven.
She’s doing an awesome job. I love that she did not let her circumstances become an excuse but instead used it as motivation. I think she should go ahead and get rid of that student loan debt especially with the salary she has saying this from experience.
This is the type of videos that should be pinned in the trending tab , the motivation it gives me and the little bit of motivation that fuels my desire to make my money work for ME ! thanks for the inspo
Gabriela, thanks so much for doing this video. I have a similar upbringing. If it wasn’t for this video, I would have never went back to school at 35 years old to pursue my career in software development. This video changed my life. Thank you again, Gabriela, from one Chicagoan to another. Proud of you and all you’re doing! Super inspiring!!!
@@jerseynurse6878 what does this have to do with my comment? If the penalty fee for overpaying your loan is higher than the interest, it doesn't make Sense to pay it off too soon
Why is it an issue? You don't have the whole picture. By that I mean you don't know the terms of the loan or interest rate. Aggressively paying off the loans may not be the best decision for her right now.
If the interest on her saving and investment is higher than the interest of the debt there is no reason to pay off early, also not to mention the tax deductions she can claim annually.
I paid my loans off slowly over time because I looked at it like I could make more of a return on my own with throwing all that cash on low interest rate students loans. My 401k averages around 10% a year, so I’m already ahead of the game when I put a big chunk of money in there every week.
My brother in law just got into electricians union a year ago and he’s making close too 100k a year and he’s only 26! Good for you Jamal. It’s an awesome career. Good luck 👍🏼🍀
Aww.. she is so relatable. I'm sure great things will happen to her as she's warm, strong and hardworking. This would be my favorite episode of CNBC as well
I respect this lovely lady, very mature, doesn't live beyond her means, she drives an old car, and has a second car she uses for rentals. This gives me motivation to do well and go harder in life
This is the video I never knew I needed. I have a MS degree in Information Systems, but unfortunately I have no money, but I want to take my Comptia A+ and Comptia security + so that I can also get into Cyber security. Thanks for the inspiration.
Wow, Gabriela. Your story is amazing, I'm a mexican millenial living in Logan Square. I felt the need to say that because I find myself relating with you so much! You're story is so inspirational. Latina girl Magic.
That’s what I thought too. Better to pay it off upfront because you never know what could happen. Could loose that good job and then have to defer and end up owing more. Plus the interest accrued over 13 years would add so much more to the principle. She’ll probably realize that soon and pay off the debt. Doesn’t matter if you save 55k, if you owe 55k ur net worth is going to be 0!
She has goals, she has things to do with that $, if she strictly paid off the loan, she most likely wouldn't own her own house or have much in retirement (compounding interest). If she didn't have the house she wouldn't have over 1k a month, that's 12k a year plus principal pay down. Using loans correctly to leverage your $ is important, she's doing it correctly as long as she's got goals. If she's letting it sit in a savings account, then she should pay them off. But I think she wants to buy another house, then she would rent out her current house and make even more $.
She’s most likely paying the interest. She could pay the loan off in one go, or invest that money into a lucrative venture. It’s not always smart to pay off all your loans. Also, it could help build your credit.
This was an excellent story! She tore me up 😢 when she spoke about her Dad. She’s a smart girl and I like that she has a healthy balance of saving and spending. I hate when ppl claim to never buy anything.
So much respect for her! Also cybersecurity is a very smart move as far as career growth. I'm sure she will only be making more and more as the years go by. She has no idea how well she has set herself up for success early. She will someday though! You go girl!
I know few friends pulling over $100k+ per year, but not really happy and stressed in general. Another set of friends, making around $35K a year seem to be content with life. I guess that’s what matters the most....being happy at the end of the day!!
PetieD 7 I agree. I have to say that my manager makes $130k a year and only has 1 job. But he works 60-70 hour weeks and most of the time doesn’t take a lunch break or takes vacation. And yes he has a family. I’m fortunate that I can just hit my hours, eat lunch every day and go home on time as a salaried employee. Not everyone gets that luxury making over 100k
gavip24 ....unfortunately putting 60-70+ hours in making $130K may not be an ideal pay anymore since these hours are equivalent of two worker bees making $65K, or making under $40/hour for the accountability and/or responsibility of the position. Furthermore, the work-life balance is obviously non existence anymore especially when one has a family. Although, if your manager works only 37.5 to 40 hours per week, than s/he is in a GOOD position!! Just my $0.02 cents.
Dude holy crap. Her and I are the same age and I feel so inspired and slapped in the face. She is on her grind like no other!! I was like why she dressed like a hot librarian and there it is! Level up up level up🙌🏾
What makes me to love her most is that she wants to create a center to teach others about cybersecurity. This is the best compassion; teaching others how to fish in order to fish for themselves. I love this. It's my prayer that it will come true.
This is one of the better ones I've ever seen. This girl is humble yet she likes pretty good money and doesn't let that stand in the way of giving the impression she is better than others. Not only that but she's a grinder working on the weekends at the library.
@@anaadventures7669 She's buying security by paying off the mortgage first. Stocks average 6-7% returns each year, assuming good diversification and a good year. With a monthly student loan payment of $262, her interest rate is probably about 4.5%. If she invests the money that she would have put towards student loans, she'll have about a 1.5-2.5% spread between her investments and student loan debt, which is based on average market returns. This spread is beneficial only if she can make returns above her student loan interest, which might be hard across 13 years. Also, if she pays off the mortgage in 3 years or less, she'll stockpile cash quickly and can invest that or cover those costly home repairs that she mentioned in the video.
@@anaadventures7669 haha that's not what I said at all. I understand your point--she could invest the money she would have paid towards student loans. My point is that there's more risk in doing so across 13 years because her income could change. If that happened or if she lost her job, it would be far easier to stop investing than it would be to stop loan payments to a creditor.
Life100 a lot of jobs pay you to have a phone so maybe that’s why she only pays ten I get $40 dollars for my professional phone line and only pay $20 at AT&T and it’s enough money to pay my personal line as well which is also $20
That deal still exists...$1 a month is still an option for “new” subscribers. If you create a new account with a different email, you can get the deal.
Is it just me who feels like she doesn’t understand that she’s earning a lot like guys? Six figures is a lot for one person. And she’s saving a lot like 1/3 of her income
@@SK-mr6ov It really is a lot. I don't understand the hoity toity people who think it's not. Statistically she's crushing the median household all by herself. Could she save more? Probably, but most Americans don't save anywhere near 1/3 their income. Her case is a triumph.
KalbiKing I agree she is doing really well, but not well enough to where she should start spending all of it yet. The median household income shouldn’t be something you compare yourself to if you wanna be financially independent. So yes 112k is a lot for the avg but it’s not a lot for people who want to be wealthy. So saving and investing should be her first priority, not spending.
