This reality show never gets old. Events happen from so many angles that it really broadens the understanding on the difficulties involved with living a DIY lifestyle.
Best quote of the episode: [Diana] "I'm never gonna set foot on this boat again!!!" Great start on the greenhouse! That's gonna be another game-changer. And I'm curious if the Scare-Owl really works!
Great video. Totally admire the instant community of getting things done, even the puppies get on well. Typical Spring weather, white, grey, sun, wind, cloud and all before the day is done. Good excuse for a little party.
The chicken netting looks great! It is so nice to have people come hang out and help. It looks so pretty with the sun out up there, and then Bang, more snow! You all must be jonesing to garden outside. Nice to see all the progress up there!
Self reliance and homesteading life IS a lifestyle of problems and the ability to overcome with solutions. My hat is off to you Sir as you seem to take the punches well without loosing your mind! I know there has been many four letters words, but that's a healthy way of venting! Lol! Great blog of daily struggles my friend! Keep it Burning! 🔥
Thanks TSP👍 I laughed out loud when I read this and my Lulu asked what I was laughing at. I read her your comment and said I thought about her saying “I’m never getting on this boat again”😂 People handle stressful situations differently. Hope all is good with you. Enjoy the upcoming week.
That snow just make it look so beautiful. If it’s electrical start with the ground.👍 every day is a different day and weather... Looks like you all had fun..😊 Have a wonderful week guys..
First great rear view 😜 been there when the boat died. No matter the weather your view is fantastic. Nice to have friends you can laugh and have fun with. HAPPY EASTER. You all be blessed. 😊🇺🇸
Ha not the most flattering shot but it helped tell the story😂 it was great having everyone over. As it gets warmer more people will start coming to the island on the weekends. After winter it’s nice to see people again. Lol Happy Easter to you too.
OMG! I got a10 X 10 portable shed from harbor freight, put away the cover and put greenhouse plastic on it. My husband thought I was nuts. Transplanting is almost over & now it will be a garden shed until next spring. Too funny you just did the same thing 😂😂😉😉
I see that You and Diana had a rough start with your engine 'conking-out ', but with having great friends it all turned out to be a blast, and some great tunes! It's finally warming up here with most of the snow gone, though night times are still below freezing, and we also get the odd stick on the ground snow showers, but it is looking better. Thanks for sharing your very interesting life, Cheers!
It started out rough but finished with a bang😂 Yeah the temps are about the same here. Mid 30s in the day and mid 20s at night. In a couple more weeks we should stay in the 30s and 40s👍
Your small kicker back there for backup did not work? Good job on the 550 cord. Owl is awesome. Aquarium heats work. I use them in my tanks when it's super cold out. I seen that frozen greenhouse in the box! 10x26x7 is what mine are. Ouch on the propane leak. Glad ya found the problem on the motor. Purple balls was priceless! Party going on and frame is built finally... LMBO.. Snow and freezing temps gave me chills through this whole movie. Happy Easter my friends. I take it momma leg is all healed? Stay safe and have a great week!
Hope y’all had a great Easter. The Mrs. is doing much better. Still taking it easy but definitely on the mend. My kicker is electric start and trim, I didn’t think about what happens if I loose power to both motors when I bought it. I may have to keep some cables in the boat so I can go stream from the battery to the kicker or just rework it so it bypasses everything in case we have this issue again.
HAPPY EASTER! Its wonderful to have such great neighbors to come help out. Used to be like that here but most are gone now and those that remain are like me old and decrepit lol. I don't remember your winter being like this last year or am I just forgetting
Happy Easter 🐣 It sure was nice having everyone together. We had a good time. Yeah that’s typical southeast weather. We can still get snow through April and sometimes in May.
Ha yea sir, I thought I’d throw a Little Rock into the mix😂 I can’t wait to put the greenhouse to work. We had a little snow today too. Hopefully this will be the last of it.
Another good video. Ok, I've freeloaded long enough watching your videos ... so I subscribed today! :)) Keep up the great work you guys! Be brave ... be warm!
Happy Easter 🐰🐣🐥🐤🐇 Here in Loveland, Ohio we're having a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon. It's suppose to get up to 70" today. Thank God we don't have the snow like you guys do. But the last few days it's gotten down into the 20"s and rainy and killed all the blossoms on the trees. I have 4ft Rebar tomato stakes in my garden. I put plastic water bottles over the tops of the Rebar so I don't poke my eyes out and to keep the wasp from building nest in them. In the beginning I used Pop (Coke Cola) Cans. They worked but the wasp were terrible in them. Dangerous to pick tomatoes. I think the 2 liter plastic bottles are a great idea for the top of the wooden post. For more security screw it to the post. Believe me plastic bottles last forever at least mine have and they are free. They're also great for making funnels or cut the tops off, poke a few holes in the bottom for pots to start seedlings in. Love the new tent Green House/High Tunnels. I have a question about the PVC Pipe framing over your raised beds. How did you attach it to the wooden frame? I would like to recommend a young couple in Sweden building an Off Grid Homestead Their You Tube channel is Talasbaun. They both speak English very well. Very easy to understand. They are dealing with tons of snow just like you guys. All of you are very tough people. We had Blizzards in the winters of 1977 and 1978. Never want to live through that again. My truck does not do well in the snow. This old Gal stays tucked inside until the roads are perfectly cleaned and dry. My pantry, freezer and refrigerator are well stocked and I have alternative heat and cooking stoves. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏
Hey Glenda, Happy Easter to you too. Yeah someone else recommended the 2 liter bottles, that’s a great idea. We attached the pvc to the wood with pipe fasteners. Next weeks video will probably have it in there because we are building beds this week. I hope I have some extra fasteners. If not we will pick some up in town. That young Swedish couple are amazing and there filming and editing is pro level. I’ve been following them for over two years now. The video showing the birth of their child is great. Probably one of my favorite videos on RU-vid. Thanks for watching.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead My daughter set up my TV so I could watch RU-vid last year. Before that I watched most things on my phone and Googled what I wanted to watch. I had a handwritten list of channels I liked. Occasionally it would pop up on my TV. Oh my, what technology had brought to us.❤👍👌❤ Most of the Subscribed Channels I watched other You tubers have mentioned them. Others RU-vid recommended them. I'm going to go back and watch their older videos. I'm still doing that with Heather, The Kneady Homesteader and Josie at Cedar creek Homestead. Both of these ladies lost their husbands in the last few months. Watch Cedar Creek Homestead Howie sings "Stroll across Heaven with you" I did recommend That 1870's Homestead and Homestead Heart to watch this video, they are just starting out with some of these garden protection things in their gardens. Homestead Heart just built a long Green House with Cattle Panels. Cattle Panels are a wonderful product for a Homestead and especially in the garden. Wish I had all this info in 1974 when we bought our "Farmett".I I'm 79 now and learning so much from all of you guys. Thank You from the bottom of my Heart ❤👍👍👍❤
That’s true, having RU-vid and the internet makes knowledge as easy as a click of the button. We set my wife’s folks tv up so they could watch RU-vid and Netflix on their tv. I’m in the age category where I’m pretty much useless when it comes to technology but I’ll keep trying until I figure stuff out or call my son for help😂
I hoping the snow is over now but we will probably get a little more before summer kicks in. Hope you guys are doing good. Tell Gin we both said hello.
Great to see you back, was tempted to start the grow house build here too, then got a fresh layer of snow tonight. Think we’ll hold off on sowing for now...
Ha I don’t blame you. Our snow has been washed away with rain but it’s supposed to snow tonight followed by rain tomorrow. It’s that time of year when the temps hover just above and below freezing😂
What started out as another series of unfortunate events turned out great with the help of neighbors and friends! You and the Mrs. seem to have had more than your fair share of bad luck. Hopefully that will soon be behind you and you'll be entering a better time! It was good to see all your friends helping and having a good time on the beach before another snow came in! I'm hoping you and the Mrs are in town today, Easter Sunday, with her parents and enjoying a good dinner and time together. Please let Grandma Jo know people are keeping her in their prayers.
It did start out rough but ended in a bang👍 That’s they way life is, ups and downs. It keeps things interesting that way.😂 Happy Easter to you. We stayed out here but are going to town next week for JoLynn and Don’s 60th anniversary. That’s a big milestone.
I'm a brand new fan as of yesterday which was the second of August? Anyway I have extreme anxiety and depression and PTSD. It seems the only way I'll ever be able to live my dream is watching you on the screen. But I'm okay with that because you seem as happy as I would be if I didn't have all these mental illnesses holding back. I love the music and the vibe in your show please don't change
Certainly good to have help and that's gonna be a nice GH for sure!! That owl may help ya Brian but the netting will really help, I use a owl for the crows over here but them crows are smart so I had to start moving the owl around in the pea patch lol!! Y'all stay safe up there sir!! Dan
Yeah buddy, finally got a greenhouse going. I’ve heard you have to move the owl around or they will catch on to the fact that it’s fake. Hope you have a great week Dan.
Glad to see Diana Lulu is boot free this week. Wearing regular boots, so thumbs up there. Her hawk foot is healed up? I see you are not her Captain with your boat all busted and crap. That too will pass. Please make my week with a WSW this week. 👍🤞😉
Thanks. They said to move your owl around also. So far we haven’t had any more issues but it’s also warming up so they may have moved on to an easier area for food.
That's a darn good sized greenhouse you got there! That's gonna be nice to work in out of the wind once it's gets a bit warmer. So exciting! Hey something dawned on me. You guys don't seem to explore the land areas much. Do you ever go hiking or camping? That's not everyone's cup of tea. Was just curious. I went camping at the top of the Yosemite Mountain area years ago and although is more beautiful than words could describe, I didn't venture too far out because it was a bear habitat. But I did explore some. It was too beautiful not to.
Thanks Susan. It should last a few years. I take Gunner for walks and hikes. We hit all the trails in the summer and pick blueberries. Just don’t film it all the time. Ha as for camping I traded a tent in for a cabin. It’s like camping everyday😂
Another great video! Glad it was a easy fix for the boat. Question on regulator, I have one one the island that will frost up and the leak out of a small hole. Could it need to be replaced? Do yours frost up? Happy Easter Sunday to the both of you. Have a great week!
Happy Easter to you too. If it’s still working I’d leave it. When ours started to fail you could smell the propane and it emptied the tank fairly quickly.
Looks like your boss wasn't happy with the Mercury outboard motor. It's always a good idea to go through twice a year and check certain places in the wiring. I figured you would have fixed the chicken hawk up for some soup lol. They keep saying 25 to 35 up there. Take and go over to Harry's plumbing or Alaska ship chandeliers and get a couple of hanging needles and a spool of hanging twine and run about every 4 feet a 3/8 to half inch line under the siene webbing you got and take a hanging needle and every foot or so start with a clove hitch and do a couple more half hitches after the clove hitch that way the line and the siene webbing are connected for strength and put a couple of 3/8 or half inch line going like if you run the first lines north and south do the other lines east and west for strength. The important part of the 3/8 or half inch line you get make sure that it's not polyester. Be like if you put it on a crab pot the line/rope would sink. The reason why I say the line/rope that would sink because the Sun and light after a while will rotten it. If you could find some goldbon tarred ground line like for longline commercial halibut or sable fish or greycod bottom fish and use that to strengthen your cover siene webbing. Also the reason why to get the tarred hanging twine that way the sun light don't bother it as bad. A couple of seine boat captains you might look up for old webbing and if they have any old ground line Randy G is the start of his last name his dad and uncle fished out of Juneau and his uncle was supposed to have moved to wrangell. And Robbie his last name starts with Bec I used to work for his dad Jim a lot when I lived up there doing work in town and things. Glad you're both back online
Yeah it’s staying in the 30s during the day and sipping into the 20s at night. Still getting a little snow followed by rain. Nothing is sticking now. Seems like we might be headed out of the snow season soon enough. We have friends that have some siene netting we are going to pick up this year. Looking forward to that.
Oh man! Yall got cold weather again? That means we will have that too in a week or so. We just put the summer tyres on. Bummer! Edit: That is some nice neighbors you got there!
Great video. If you ever have a unreliable engine don't throw it away ,they make great anchors. Lol. What do you call those rubber boots everyone is wearing, I need to get a pair. Stay safe.
@@solobushman in stores they go on sale every year, don’t know about online... you should check the nearest sporting goods stores and farm supply stores... the xtratuf website might tell you which stores near you Cary them.
I’m going to rework the click so it runs straight off the battery. It wasn’t getting power either and it’s electric trim so I wasn’t able to lower it in the water. Luckily we jiggled some wires and got it into the water.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead when I bought my boat I purchased it sans kicker to save money and because a new Honda isn’t gonna have problems... and I figured as soon as the boat/motor were paid off I’d take out a new loan and get a ten hp kicker.... well, it’s a three year old motor now (still not enough hours on it to be considered “broken in”), hopefully it has no problems until after it’s paid off and I add the kicker.... Watching this and remembering the weather when the waves start kicking up is making me nervous just thinking about not having a kicker....
@@YanksandBritsProductions They say the safest place in America with the least amount of natural disasters is around Truth or Consequences New Mexico. Elephant Butte reservoir is there also with great stripped bass fishing...
@@YanksandBritsProductions I guess you have to decide what's important to you, and yes, there are no guarantees in life. You like a lot of rain? Pacific northwest on the coast, you like it dry? Anywhere east of the coast range, you like it hot? There are states that are hot most of the year. Outdoors/City, lots of choices. You just have to decide what's right for you. Good luck with your search...
Brian, what was your MOS in the Army? Was it improvise, adapt, and overcome training? Wait that’s the Marines. Hey there was a tan dog (make that several dogs) in the shot earlier, did you see it? Since I just subscribed, more Captain Obvious questions to follow.
I’m not sure which dog it was but we have Tanner a lab and Abby a golden retriever that come by every now and then. I started out as infantry then commo and later admin.
Nothing like great neighbors. I wonder if anyone lives on an island like you guys and is stuck with some assholes for neighbors? I'm sure it happens but like to think they get weeded out eventually.
We have friends on a different island who have issues with their neighbors. It’s very unfortunate The A hole neighbors recently had their boat sink in a storm, perhaps it was karma.
