Remember to cover the tank with a black coverto prevent the water from go green with alge. Love your vlog, you very hard working, enjoy your water.

That will also extend the life of the tank, as well. It will protect the plastic from UV light that will eventually weaken it, causing it to become brittle and eventually crack/break.

We've covered it up, we saw people making the mistake of not covering them up from the sun and the algae becomes a nightmare to clean. Thanks for watching 🤗

Just a tip, you can use a peace of white t-shirt to make a filter for your IBC. It will filter out the pollen, and dust, and the small bits of leaves that settles on the roof. You can use some screen wire to support the shirt to keep it from falling down inside the IBC. The reason for the white t-shirt is to keep the dyes of other materials out of the water. And then you can wash the t-shirt periodically to keep it clean.

You need to make up a flat based trolley for use around the farm, a pallet maybe with wheels (at least 6 inches) attach a rope and you can pull around your property. Another idea would be to search around locally for large Billboard vinyls which make great canvas tarps to cover your Wood and Firewood etc. 😁😁

When you plumb you IBC outlet to the pump, install it a few cm above the bottom to avoid pulling any sediment into the pump that will eventually form on the bottom of the tank. I would also put that heavy mesh screen up in the gutter and a fine mesh screen or cheese cloth at the tank

Just a tip if you have to move IBCs again. If you bend right down and pick them up form the bottom rail, rather than half way up the side, they are SOOOO much easier to carry, as they aren't bumping into your legs constantly. Feels counter-intuitive till you do it, then you wonder why you didn't think of it before! Also, an easier way to move them is to bolt or cable-tie a couple of runners underneath, and then drag them with your vehicle. As long as you go super slow and have someone watch to see they don't catch and tip over, it's super easy.
@theoriginhomestead

I applaud your hard work and dedication. It's never easy to start with nothing and try to make it a home. My wife and I have been doing it here for 20 years in January 2023. You are never done but it gets easier and easier as the work progresses. I would suggest placing your fine filter UNDER the screw on lid and let the lid hold it in place. In heavy storms it will keep it from ripping and falling into your tank.

Look on OLX for torneira dupla saida com adaptador ibc then you can connect hoses to the tank and have a normal tap. Our shower is also via our IBC with a non return valve. I think we paid about 19€ for one. If getting stuff sent is a problem you can have it delivered to a CTT locker.

Great video guys! Piece of muslin cloth wrapped over the end of the pipe going into the IBC will stop smaller debris n dust dirt washing down off the roof into the water maybe have another piece around the hole stopping anything blowing or washing in from the lid of the IBC from around the pipe also? That way your water is kind of pre filtered once before it gets to or clogs your other filters.. Really like the video nice background music and the pendants came out really nice! Well done on getting the totes set in place! Maybe add some bleach to each one so that it kills any germs or algi from growing in the water as it fills up. I'm sure you'll be able to look up the ratio online easily. Have a great week! Cheers from London 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

@stevennicholas5472 Год назад
I know you've said it is dusty there, and not sure if your roof will catch leaves etc., but you may want to research First Flush Diverter kits, or make your own. Simply put, it is like extending your downpipe to almost ground level and sealing it (with a removable end), then inserting a t-piece at the level where it would branch off to the top of your IBC. This means that the first trickles of water, carrying leaves, dust, spiders etc. drop down into the "waste" pipe, which then fills up and finally routes the cleaner water into your tank. Fancier kits use a ball system that blocks off the first flush automatically once it is full, preventing any debris from being flushed out of the waste pipe.

The last thing you want to be doing with a perfectly good IBC is drilling holes in it. You can get adaptors for the built in spout or you can use submersible pumps that just fit through the hole at the top. I collect rainwater and use a 12 volt sub pump to move it. It's a 50mm pump from Ebay and they're about £12. They don't move a huge amount of water and they only have a 3 metre head but it's plenty for most jobs. I originally bought my five IBCs for storing heating oil when it was only 27p a litre. When it hit £1.50 I was laughing with 5000 litres stored up. When the main oil tank is empty the little pump fills it from an IBC.
