The way the experts asked her "why didn't you just stop" sounded really silly to me. It's odd to consume so much corn starch but it's still an obsession; it's not something you can just get over.
yeah agree i can't stop eating sugar more than 2 days and the only way is stop buying it, when i have no chocolate at home i feel better and that i can live without it but it is problem when my parents buy something sweet i want to eat it soo much..
@@Ilssndm I once had a honey obsession when I was like 7 or 8. Truth be told, I could finish 2 or 3 jars in a day. For some time it was all I would take in a day. Until I started getting sick of it lol. I still eat honey once in a while tho.
@@Odd-Dawg wow.. i think my obsession is not big problem when I hear abiut other people obsessions because it can be really difficult to control sometimes :(
She is connecting her loss of her son with the cornstarch she was craving while pregnant. Lord please help this woman and her family.....wow, people are hurting God!😭💔❤🩹
I eat cornstarch. Well I don't swallow it... found out that because I have an iron deficiency I crave it like people it ice or plastic because the body needs iron... cornstarch doesn't have iron in it but it helps with my deficiency.
Nikki seems like such a lovely woman, hopefully she’s permanently got herself out of the cornstarch addiction and into foods that make her feel way better physically.
I know a few people already commented on this but I can totally picture the police pulling her over, seeing some sort of white powder residue on her upper lip, searching her vehicle and siezing multiple sandwich bags of white powder. Her insisting it's corn starch, the officers having a hearty laugh over that and upon getting the results of a roadside test (or whatever),feeling completely idiotic while finding it comical at the same time lol
@@littleme3597Giving her a heathy diet doesn’t explain why she could have cravings for cornstarch. I think it’s important for people to know that having deficiencies or withdrawals can lead bizarre behaviors. Clearly, she turned to cornstarch to cope with loss but having pica could’ve been the reason she craved cornstarch specifically.
Pica is about eating something that gives no nutritional value, such as cornstarch, one common example is ice, although commonly it is about things that aren't usually edible.@@BunnySpaceMachine
this might be an older episode, but I had to say, unlike other addictions, nikki, recognises the consequences, and genuinely wants to change. I really admire her want to change her habits for her health. Kudos to her.
I was shocked when I saw this pop up as a suggestion for me. When I was pregnant I was cooking and needed to use corn starch. I got some on my finger and just licked it off, as a person would when cooking for my husband and I. Well, for whatever reason I was hooked!! I didn't eat boxes a day but I ate a pretty decent amount in the months of pregnancy following. Corn starch and ice were it for me. Along with ice cream cookie sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, and other sweets. I ended up having gestational diabetes. After I gave birth, I didn't eat it again! I told my doctor and she said it was ok since it was used in foods and was actually edible. At least I wasn't eating dirt or laundry detergent or something dangerous like that!! My daughter is 10 and she's perfect. It was defiantly bizarre, I don't deny that!
Wait until she finds out that there is FLAVORED CORN STARCH in the 🇲🇽 Mexican aisle of her grocery store! *Maizena* is used to make atole, a warm drink. ☕ Basically, it is flavored corn starch! And, it is available in 🍓strawberry, 🍌banana, 🥥coconut, 🍫chocolate, vanilla or 🌰nut flavors!
@@JanxiMlbb You’re only supposed to use a couple of tablespoons and mix it with hot milk! Atole tastes like a warm, thick milk shake. It has the consistency of a shake, but instead of being cold, it is warm. It is usually paired with sweet bread or cookies.
@@JanxiMlbb no it does not because I’m pretty sure it’s only used in an amount you’re able to consume it’s not the same as if you straight up, eat it out of a packaging which is not recommended.
@@BlueBanistersLove I understand! I used to love crushing ice with my teeth! Until, I was informed by my dentist that some of my teeth had tiny "hairline" cracks in them! And, there was nothing that they could do about it! If they crack, I will just need to get crowns on them! Needless to say, I stopped with the ice!
I used to eat baby powder I once ate a full brand new bottle but just took me a few months to finish because I secretly ate it until my mum 👩🏽 found out and said that I could have heart or lung problems so now I’ve officially quit eating baby powder
Wow crazy! I had a strong inclination to eat soap when little haha. It was specifically Dettol soap, the original one. 😂 Didn't eat it but I licked it a few times, but stopped cause I would get a stomache right after.
This is the norm for many escaping the stress of life. I used to eat cornstarch, and laundry starch. Once I created a starch amusement park. I knew it was time for me to stop eating it. The Lord, iron pills, and hearing my mom in a dream say “Stop eating that starch”
My mom used to eat corn starch...well more like chew it but, she always spit it out. The same way someone chew tobacco and spit out the build up. I myself chew on corn starch but, I never swallow the stuff. I chew it for the sensation I feel when chewing it.
There is an African connection to the consumption of corn starch and also laundry starch. My grandmother used to eat laundry starch, and my brother craved cigar ashes. In western Africa, people were accustomed to eating clay and dirt to remove parasites from the digestive tract. When Africans were enslaved in the USA, they could not get the same soil, and refined starches like these became substitutes.
so the husband said "If you don't stop eating corn starch I'm gonna take the kids away from you" and this team acts like that's good and fair?? How is she bothering anyone?
Oh wake up and stop trying to be so politically correct. You’re clearly not a parent. The addiction is unhealthy and hiding corn starch under the sofa and obstructing her bowels is NOT a life for children to grow up around.
Right, she’s not a threat to the children at all. she not enforcing bad habits on them there’s people that smoke cigarettes and they still have their kids
There is also a thing in the US called corn flour that's just ground up corn, like extra fine corn meal. Corn starch is specifically the starch from the kernal, similar to potato starch. I'm curious which one you guys use.
I have this. To get off of it I now eat plain, dry, quick oats with roasted almonds mixed in (non salted & non sweetened) It is really filling the void & delicious. I also have iron deficiency
After my grandma passed away I started consuming ice chips large cups I didn’t realize this was my way of coping and dealing with anxiety. Well I had labs drawn for my annual doctor visit and was slightly anemic. I stopped eating ice but sometimes crave cold foods. I’m glad she’s getting help 🙏🏼
when I was young I taste paper accidentally and it taste unique and good texture. But luckily I love other food more than paper, but I remember when I'm bored that I chew paper. Omg I never think that act is disgusting😂
I have pica and my guilty pleasure is food grade diatomaceous earth powder. It has the consistency of chalk and I love it. I only eat a spoonful every few weeks though.
cravings for that kind of foods is know, you have a deficiency in some vitamin or mineral Cornstarch is deficiency in group B vitamins (B1, B2 and B3) vitamin A, C and E. Example.. B If you craved a good chocolate, specialists point out that you most likely need magnesium, chromium, B complex vitamins and even Omega 3 fatty acids, so you could also be experiencing fatigue, listlessness and even anemia.
@@politecat234you cannot liken someone having asthma to someone who eats cornstarch everyday. That is just blatantly false and ignorant. That's like saying "it's your choice to have asthma".
This may not be exactly connected to Nicki but I feel it's important to say no matter how simbolic it is to honor their son(which I have no problem with and do understand) they should not release balloons that end up in the ocean and hurt the sea life when the balloons come down
Usually when you are addicted to eating cornstarch or ice, plastic or even dirt, usually red dirt its because of anniron deficiency....the body needs iron and that's why you crave it... I eat cornstarch and use to eat red dirt...ice helps sometimes.... unfortunately I have sickle cell so I can't take iron pills to help with my iron deficiency so I still eat the cornstarch...o don't swallow it though 😅
I have a friend who also eat lots of cornstarch everyday. She's was even in a FB group of others who also ate it. She would trade with them different brands of cornstarch from across the US.
