It's so upsetting to me that Marie seems to be clearly suffering from an eating disorder and it's never truly addressed. She's so in denial it makes her seem like an unpleasant person when she really isn't. Someone needs to have a serious talk with her and get her some help.
When Brooke told Marie that she probably should try eating a little bit more of the food since that’s what they came there to do and Marie said “ I don’t think that’s the name of the game“ my jaw dropped because that is literally exactly the name of the game and exactly what they are there for.
I may be entirely wrong but i searched for marie on google, there was a Marie Sheratt who passed away in May 2022 in the west of england (that’s the accent she has). I’d be so sad to hear she never put the weight on :(
Shes clearly autistic, the way she counts her almonds, eats the same everyday, is picky about what parts of the food is good to eat, the fact that she put ear plugs in before she grinded her almonds... She is clearly autstic and it can be painful to eat textures your bory chose it doesnt like and she shouldn't be forced to eat those!!! Please stop hating on marie
black star She was. I would’ve lost it. Brooke was trying hard to eat foods she didn’t enjoy, and she didn’t complain about wanting more. But Marie was complaining about every supersized meal. And trying to educate her like she is a dumb baby. It was horrible to watch.
It’s a mental disorder and telling someone to just eat more is like telling a person with depression to lighten up. In the video it said that these disorders take on average 6 years to combat. This is just start of a long battle.
I love how Brooke ploughs through the diet swap without a word of complaint. She's a really sweet girl and really shows determination to lose weight. Marie, on the other hand, does the opposite; not clearing her plate, judges what Brooke eats like white bread and cheese. She also thinks "super foods" are healthy but she's lacking certain nutrients. No wonder she didn't gain weight

(This is comming from ab obese person btw)
You can literally see that Marie is disgusted by food, just by the way she chews it. She's even struggling putting healthy food in her mouth. I can see the mental battle she is having, just by the excessive blinking and facial expressions, whilst she's eating.
Marie's situation is so not taken seriously. She isn't just skinny, she's mentally unwell and needs psychological help. it's most likely born from trauma, the need for control.
Alice Is not my real name a mental illness isn‘t a personality trait doe. She‘s dragging Brooke like 24/7 and that‘s rlly mean considering that Brooke had it just as hard and that Marie is just as sick as she is.
"I'm quite disappointed by white bread..." This woman...Marie, omg. She's a university student. You know she probably can't afford all that "super food" stuff. Marie was so judgy. She's just sitting there shaming Brooke which...isn't the point.
I love how Brooke honestly admits and accepts how much she eats and the unhealthy food she eats. She’s trying her best to see what’s going on for her. But Marie keeps insisting that she’s better and she’s overall just more healthier when she is just actually unhealthy and judgmental.
I hate how the “super skinny’s” are always giving advice and judging the “super sized” folks. Like you’re both on the show for a reason, not just one of y’all.
@@ovs4744 I know! What I’m trying to say is that the media production team (I believe) centers around the “skinny” person talking nonstop about how bad the “super’s” food is. But they are in the same boat health wise.
@@ovs4744 also we are kidding ourselves if we think Marie just has picky eating. She has an eating disorder and has had one for quite a long time. 2 days in a food swap/clinic will not change that.
@Sharee Mitchell yeah, I agree. When your period stops due to eating too little or exercising too much, this is a warning sign that your body is not functioning correctly, and should not be taken lightly.
As someone who has been overweight for most of my life, the dynamic between Brooke and Marie really bothered me. I find that overweight people always get judged for their habits, and skinny people always get a pass even if they are not necessarily healthy. Glad to see Brooke was successful
That's not always true, read stories of thin people, others laugh at them and tell them to eat burgers, call them sticks and anorexics. Obese women hijacked body positivity movement and try to make everyone believe they're healthy nowadays. Being on both ends isn't very pleasant and obese women can be very cruel towards slim ones.
@@angelinalonnberg1014 This is the stupidest comment I've ever read. Do you know what happens if someone stops eating? They die. And quite rapidly, in a few days only. And do you know why someone is overweight? No you don't. Because there are various and multiple reasons someone might be like this, going from diseases and genetics to psyche. Yes, food is involved and when an overweight person wants to lose weight, their diet is the first thing that should be looked at and monitored, making sure it is balanced and full of good nutrients, but it does not make everything. You cannot "not be fat" just by changing your eating habits or worse, stoping eating. Please just be a little less judgmental.
@@feufolleth just wanna say you are wrong. No one will die after few days with no eating - maybe if someone weight less than Marie from this episode. You know record for no eating is more than year? Especially overweight people can live long without any food. Water - yes, u will die after few days, but food? nope.
The whole "I think she quite enjoyed the porridge" "It was baby food, I wouldn't have it again." exchange made me lol. As soon as they said that Marie was into superfoods, I rolled my eyes. I hope the fact that she was eating half as many calories as she should have been sinks in.
Marie has disordered eating but she also feels quite superior about her diet. The way she speaks to Brooke is really patronising and quite condescending. I feel quite sorry for her. That’s a really joyless way to live
I suspect it is hortorexia, that's and ED where people are not concerned with calories and their body image but rather with "eating healthy" food. It can be just as dangerous as anorexia when it gets to this level but I guess it partially explains why she doesn't follow the diet given by the doctor: she thinks that her idea of "healthy" food is right so it wouldn't make any sense to her to eat "unhealthy food"
I'm not sure at all, but I've sometimes wondered if it's because people who under eat are often seen as "ill" or "frail" where as there's a certain amount of judgement that people over eat are "lazy" "stupid". None of it seems fair at all.
@@thegreenmanofnorwich Or I mean I know this sound stupid or maybe they think "Wow I'm glad I'm skinny or I'll end up like that". Show up looking like Marie at my school oh that's fine but show up looking like Brooke is going to cause you a lot of hell. @@ilpveanimeiloveanjme9462 briefly. I was a somewhat chubby kid. Athletic as a term (I used to go rowing) and fit as a twenty something (I used to go dancing a lot), but if you hit 30 gaining weight, it will be much much more difficult to shift in your 30s than it was in your 20s. Being sensible with food types and portions is difficult to learn, but it really is vital to learn to eat like a sensible person.
For the first half of the show I was convinced 50% of Marie's problem was autism and food avoidance/sensory issues but watching her actually eat a good amount of food that she clearly doesn't enjoy and the fact she gained no weight throughout the experiment, lends itself to the idea she does infact have an eating disorder, quite possibly bulimia given her ability and willingness to eat fairly good sized portions
bulimia is when you eat large portions of food and then make yourself throw it up. i believe marie likely has orthorexia, which is only eating healthy foods very obsessively.
Bulimia is so far off... she doesn't binge and purge. She likely has orthorexia given her fixation on "healthy" food, "super foods", organic ingredients and the fact that eating white bread was such a big deal to her
I used to be really fat. I had 390lbs in September last year, and when I saw that number it was way more than I thought it is. I was really mad at myself. It really hit me hard, and I realised I got to do something. Not just sit and wait for problem to resolve itself. It was a life changing decision, because I have probably been on the verge of developing some serious health condition... So at first I got my diet plan created on NextLevel Diet, which was super helpful to me. In the first two months of following my eating plan I lost 42 lbs. And by February of this year another 40, for the total of 80lbs in 5 months... After that I started slowly exercising. First just by walking, and eventually I joined a gym and now I go five days a week, still walking on the weekends. I realised that I am stronger than I ever thought I have been. Never had any confidence, and now I can run, do burpees, do push-ups... I take these small victories!!
Well done on your weight loss journey! It takes a lot of willpower these days, especially when we are surrounded by addictive food. Congratulations and a Happy New Year! :)
that woman saying she doesn’t care if she dies, and she’s ready to go whenever, truly shattered my heart. I myself am overweight, and I never want to have to go through that feeling. 💔
I feel like Marie thinks she's only there to help Brook and that she doesn't really need help but she's got real control issues 27 almonds really like damn enjoy life once in a while
Marie is sick. Not toxic. She needs help and her judgment is clouded by a lifelong eating disorder. Being paired with Brooke was the best thing for her so she could really see all the misconceptions and unhealthy eating habits she has developed.
Brooke's meals weren't even that big compared to what I have seen in this series. I can remember seeing a huge breakfast - like, chocolate, bacon, eggs, fries... that shit in one sitting. so I was very surprised to see two slices of bread. that was actually pretty normal, but I would just change the toppings (more veggies and perhaps avocado as a butter), the type of bread (not so white) and add fruits on the side, so it would be more filling and I wouldn't be starving when it's time to eat lunch. I can see that Brooke's main problem was the cheese and it's crazy to think about.
I don't think they include her seconds. That diet alone isn't too bad, it's probably when she keeps snacking/ getting extras causing the calorie excess.
@@KannyValentine you didn't have to call the girl a "fat cow" for all we know you could be fat as well so don't go saying shit when you are probably the same at least brooke is confident enough to go on this show and work on her weight so you shut your mouth and keep your nasty opinion to yourself and leave her alone
"as usual, Marie has a complaint." Was such great shade. Love it. The supersize lady was so lovely and really making an effort. The superskinny lady really refused to admit she might have a problem. I think so many of these people (on both sides) have undiagnosed eating disorders (often food-type aversions).
Brooke: I'm sticking with your portion, maybe you could try and stick with mine Maria: that's not the aim of the game WELL THEN WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE GAME THEN?!
Being that skinny she would have food sensitivities. She would be puking that up later on when the cameras are off. It's the body that would stop her from eating all that food. The body not used to that could easily pull all the potassium from her blood killing her dead. So you want someone to die so you can be entertained. Asshole.
@@simonsms410 are you mad!! 4000 calories is double what a reasonably active woman should be having so expect to be double the size if you eat double the calories. 4000 calories is fine if you're a well built 6ft guy but if Brooke did 2 hours of gym everyday with that lifestyle she'd still gain weight. If you watch secret eaters there's a blonde woman who doesn't understand why she's running 6 miles everyday but still gained 2 stone in 6 months. It was because she was consuming nearly 4000 calories. Brooke would have to be dragging boulders by your logic to have a healthy BMI.
I really loved how Brooke was willing to change and didn't complain!🥰 But tbh I can also understand Marie, I used to be anorexic too and if I saw someone the size of Brooke it would much more motivate me to keep my diet going or making it even more extreme I remember back then I was scared of even looking normal sized, my motivation to become skinnier was literally looking at fat people
I couldn't eat the stuff the fat girl ate; cheese and mayonnaise sandwich, beef broth on toast, cucumber and cheese sandwich, that's disgusting. Can't she just eat fast food and chocolate bars like most fat people? That would at least be palatable
Brooke is literally so sweet and I can see that she’s trying hard! But Marie is not even trying, and being super judgemental about brooke’s food.. i know that shes trying to help and all, but the way that she talks to Brooke is just so rude.
She's not rude at all. This comment is ridiculous. Brooke is obese and getting to a point where its serious. She can't sit there and act like its hard for her to eat less than she does. Anorexia is a mental disorder. Learn before you speak.
Jaxo Dude, can you like, maybe chill? Sniff a candle? Smoke some weed and like, relax? Just be less... extreme? Just calm down, man. Here, have a pizza. 🍕
Chaewon Yoon i agree with jaxo. also, it can be hard when you have an eating disorder to see other people eating unhealthily and can be just as distressing as doing it yourself. i’ve had friends with eating disorders who can seem like they’re being really rude and judgemental, but it’s just something which they can’t control because they’ve trained them self to be disgusted by unhealthy food. so much hate on her it’s appalling
It’s kind of sad to see that Marie is what I’ve read about “orthorexia” which is obsessing over “pure” or whole foods and being very scared of foods like cheese, white bread, white rice or anything with more fats or sodium levels. I really hope she eventually recovered
Marie is kinda annoying. I get that it‘s hard to eat more but the other girl didn‘t complain ONCE and like less than half she would usually eat. Insane.
While I think she didn't go in to it with the right spirit, I have a small stomach and physically couldn't eat that much in one sitting, so I do understand where she is coming from. I am used to smaller portions more often.
@@MM-dq2pi that's fine but you can tell Marie had the wrong mindset from the get go because her weight didn't even change at the end of the episode. The issue wasn't with her stomach size, it was with her attitude. She was a bitch.
I honestly believe that she thinks because she’s told herself that she’s just such a healthy eater (even though she’s killing herself) that everyone who isn’t following her diet is beneath her. She came into the feeding clinic with the wrong mindset and picked on Brooke for trying to change.
Arms 4 Our Hands Official as someone who has been diagnosed with Anorexia, I absolutely do and I also understand her mindset but having an eating disorder ≠ being an asshole. It‘s not an excuse. You can always decide to not be a bitch but she didn‘t even try. My biggest problem isn‘t even her not eating, it‘s her being a literal asshole to the other woman, who seems to be the sweetest person ever. She probably has BED or an eating problem that is similar to BED. She literally didn‘t complain ONCE. She just sat there and watched Marie.
Prob because of the way they’ve grown up and have been treated by peers etc... there’s a saying that “fat people are funny” I’m sure you’ve heard it before... or the saying you’re too ugly or fat to be mean..
I think your personality can predetermine what size you'll be. This is going to be very generalized but normally those who are more susceptible to accept overeating and becoming a larger uncomfortable size are more meek and passive while those who overly restrict their diet and exercise like crazy need a ton of self discipline and need to be overly harsh with themselves. Which is probably why we can see it so much in this series.
@@MangoRose1 that is an interesting observation, I don’t think it’s 100% true with everyone because there are always narcissists and exceptions to rules but I totally see what you’re saying.

Maria is definitly a toxic person and her constant negativity is just... ugh. When Brooke tells Maria that Maria needs to "try a bit harder", and the call out about the portion size, should have been a moment for Maria but she stuck to her ways. You can tell that Brooke really wants to improve and is putting in the effort where as I honestly don't know why Maria even bothered with getting on this show. All the hugs and best of wishes to Brooke! I hope she has improved her health since this episode filmed and aired.
@Angelina Lönnberg No. Acknowledgement is the first step towards recovery. Brook acknowledged and took the steps towards making a change. Maria is in full out denial. And there is such a thing as being "unhealthy skinny". Maria has an eating disorder. DO NOT CALL THAT NORMAL!
@Angelina Lönnberg You're a horrible and toxic person. All you see is the surface appearance rather than the symptoms that these individuals are trying to treat. I've known people who are healthier than either of these two but, because of medications, put on a lot of weight. Appearances aren't everything. Being overweight isn't healthy. But neither is being too skinny because of excessive approaches to diet.
28:40 Something tells me the producers were probably tired of hearing her complain about the white bread and so they made the sandwich with wheat... and she's still complaining.
It was absolutely heartbreaking when the American lady Christina said she doesn’t want to change and doesn’t care. She wants to smoke and drink and is ready to go. What about her daughter? Doesn’t she want to see her daughter grow up, watch her daughter have children of her own and for her to become a grandmother? Broke my heart. I wonder if she would have given the same answer if her daughter was sitting there.
I'm amazed at how clear it was that throughout the series the skinny ones tend to have have more serious mental issues. Marie thinks she is the healthier one... but she is sadly mistaken... While fat will take 30 or so years to kill you, anorexia will do you in within 5.
Marie’s eating disorder looks more like orthorexia than anorexia, when you suffer from anorexia you definitely know what you are doing is unhealthy, and you eat little food but you are not completely obsessed with eating healthy foods. When you suffer from orthorexia, you are completely obsessed with eating so healthy it, obviously, becomes unhealthy.
I feel so sorry for Brooke it makes me so upset because she is so lovely and intelligent and you can just see everyone judging her because of her weight and she’s really trying
Marie has a serious eating disorder and needs counseling and therapy. She's also in complete denial. Brooke is so sweet :( I hope her schooling and career at going well!
Brooke is a stellar human. She cleans Christine's wound and emptied the commode without making a face or flinching. I don't care what her weight is, I would be happy to have her as my doctor. I do hope that she sorts out her diet so she can be healthy and have a long successful career saving lives. Edit: wow thanks for all the likes 🥰
Me to! I’d be thrilled if she was my doctor! She seems like a brilliant human being and it’s easy to see she’s really trying to be healthier, I wish they would do an episode where they check up in everybody. I’d love to see where she is at now!
I’m sorry but marie isn’t “health conscious”, the poor woman has an eating disorder. i’m only 15 and i weigh 3 more stone than her. marie should’ve been escorted to an ed clinic immediately. she literally counts everything she consumes. a little chat isn’t going to change her habits.
I hate how skinny people are associated with "healthy" because everyone's bodies and metabolism are built differently. A group of people can eat the same foods in the same amounts and gain/lose weight differently. You can be healthy and happy even if you're on the thicker side you dont always need to be skinny :)
I'm imagining she's so in denial about her anorexia that the only help she was willing to accept was this show :/. Unless someone like a family member wants to make the case to a judge that she can't take care of herself, she can't be admitted against her will. Everytime he talks to her you can see her give canned responses that don't seem genuine at all, just telling him what he wants to hear. She didn't even look upset to hear she didn't gain weight lol.
If they send the overweight person to the states to shock them they should also send the underweight people to an eating disorder clinic to see what there life could turn out to be
meryl freiman that’ll make people with eating disorders want to continue starving and doing there things. they would get competitive and try getting even thinner
for those who struggle with sodas....I recommend sparkling water - it kills the cravings for the bubbles....yet it has no sugar:) not the healthier drink to drink I admit. Ideal is water and green/oolong/herbal tea of course but sparkling water helped my husband to fight the cravings for cola and it killed my cravings for beer:) You will achieve a lot by only changing your drinking habits. Also drink a lot. More you drink, less you eat. Good luck Big People! I love you all, and pray for you!
Underfeeding her husband then starving herself and giving him scraps... something quite dark going on there. Bet Marie's husband is stuffing the bacon butties down on the sly, poor sod.
Alice InChristchurch There’s definitely an eating disorder she’s refusing to accept, disguising it as “healthy eating”. And must be hard for her husband.

It bothers me that they didn’t even to bother to demonstrate Marie’s food habits. Marie will not change with just a little chat about daily calories. Brooke was so kind and patient during every other demonstration. Broke seemed to have a genuine desire to change whereas Marie appeared to really not care.
When people with eating disorders like anorexia see people that are thinner then them even if they’re sick, they think of it as a new goal to lose weight. My doctor showed me pictures of to thin woman and I just thought that I should look more like them even thought they where extremely underweight.
I was in Marie´s state during my younger years (18-20) and all that talk about « health » was only a way to make me feel better about my eating habits (400 kcal per day). I was 1,72 meters for 36 kilos at the worsts times. I was not only in danger of immediate death like Marie is, I also looked and was very sad. No more good moments around a table with friends, whom I considered with mixed feelings of envy (since they ate all they want without paying too much attention - a thing I couldn’t allow myself), disgust (all those calories !) and almost pleasure to think that they were going to get fatter and I wasn’t (I know that’s horrible). I recognise myself in Marie, she seems uptight and sometimes scornful which I was until I began eating “normally” again. I feel for her. She’s sick. More years of this diet and she’s going to die. She has to visit a good therapist. Anorexia is less shamed in our society but it leads to death. (Pardon my English, I’m French)

We shouldn't be so willing to die for our addiction
I have always wondered why the super skinny aren’t taken to see someone dying of an eating disorder given the supersized are taken to see someone dying of obesity
people with eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia are more likely to die faster because they aren't meeting their needs for basic survival. but also that someone with anorexia would look at someone that was in worse condition and possibly find a 'new goal'. while yes they are both eating disorders, they need very different types of care because typically someone that's overweight doesn't want to be, whereas someone that is super skinny is making it a goal in their life to become smaller or thinner
Because screw being healthy, why not just pour flavored lard down their throats to fatten them since that's the ultimate goal in half the viewers' minds?
I actually feel really sorry for Marie. I know someone very similar to her through work, and they live in this constant state of intense worry. They can't change anything because they are absolutely convinced that the sky will fall down. If you do manage to persuade them that change is needed they overanalyze the changes, and find miniscule faults that to them seem enormous and proof of their prior beliefs. So then they change things back to the way that wasn't working before. It's not even limited to food, it's healthcare, pet care, clothing materials, cleaning products. Everything has to fit their rigid idea of "healthy".
Interesting. What I immediately noticed at the beginning was that control is of massive importance to her. I wonder what caused that level of insecurity. At least, it seems to me that that is where that need would arise from. I thought she was a nice person with a good heart, although her issue masks that somewhat.
The way Marie ate that noodle with broccoli looks so controlled and unhealthy. She literally looks like she is scared of what's in her plate. And the way she takes things out and put them in the other bowl is so ED. It's almost like a ritual for her. She behaves like an addict.
everyone seems to be belittling Marie, but many don't realize that she suffers with orthorexia...an eating disorder that makes one obsess over healthy, pure food. she is already trying enough by eating the food that Brooke, as sweet as she is, gives her. give the lady a break, this show doesn't cure eating disorders that are seen in the extremely thin, like Marie, and they don't mean to judge, they can't help it.
This is the first one I’ve watched so far where I felt like the skinny one was really, truly underweight and has an eating problem as opposed to just naturally skinny and poor diet.
There’s no such thing as “naturally skinny” but I do agree with everything else. She is truly underweight. Edit: Guys. Unless you have some kind of severe medical issue, you are not “naturally skinny” or “naturally big”. Science doesn’t lie and myths like these perpetuate disordered and unhealthy eating habits. For almost everyone (I’m talking over 90% of the population) the only way to get skinny is to burn more calories than you consume. If you eat as much as you burn, you stay the same weight.
@@Ines-nk4rr If I ate 2k calories everyday, I'd be skinny too. That's nothing. I usually eat 3k+ calories and that's why I'm at 16% body fat. You simply don't overeat, you're not naturally skinny. I've seen many of my friends become fat, and vice-versa.
So many people are upset with Marie but no one realizes how loud Ana is. Ana is judgy and restricting and lacking calories changes your mood so drastically. They both deserve compassion. The "overflow bowl" is a bit ridiculous. She made the entire meal & served herself, she knows exactly what's in it. It seems like a way to just move food around to avoid eating it .
Marie: actively resists everything that goes on in the clinic and doesn't agree with anything said to her by Dr. Christian or Brooke. Marie, 8 weeks later, after being told her weight hasn't changed at all: 'Oh, gosh. I'm so disappointed.'
I feel so bad for Brooke because by age 4 she was overweight, that’s her parents not her as you only eat what your parents give you until then and none of it is your fault. It was the same with me as a child and it was one of the most difficult things ever as I forced myself to completely change everything I ever knew
exactly! and when she was 14 she was already a size 22. if her parents allowed her to eat as much as she pleased then that is somewhat the parents fault.
@Hubert Landing are you ok? a 4 year old is a toddler, incapable of accessing anything outside of what their family gives them. if a 4 year old is overweight you cannot possibly put the onus on them, they were fed from infancy a horrid diet and know nothing else. what could a 4 year old possibly know about carbs and macronutrients, all they know is that pudding and cookies and snacks are tasty and its all thats been available to them. it is completely and 100% a parent’s responsibility if their infant or toddler is overweight, they are the ones feeding them and enabling it. also i hope you know force-feeding a defenseless child is very easy. even if it’s not shoving the food down the child’s throat, they can still be punished either physically or emotionally and confined to a seat until they finish everything on their plate. what would you suppose a 4 year old child, who has little understanding of the world other than what their parents have taught them and lacks the ability to fully understand long-term health consequences of eating whatever fried food they are told to finish, would do in this situation.
@Hubert Landing so when you were a two year old you were cooking up healthy meals and cooking yourself avocado toast every morning, yeah sure, maybe you didn’t realise it or just haven’t thought about it, but Im pretty sure no 2-5 year old is cooking their own meals or rejecting meals from their parents
